Thanks to both of you!!!!
A good quality 10W/30 diesel engine oild will be OK to use then
Karoshi, extracted from the POL guide in Clives Corner OEP-22 is stated as:
Gear Oil. SAE 90. Automotive hypoid gear units, heavy duty industrial enclosed gear units, steering gears, fluid lubricated universal joints, automotive equipment. May not be suitable in systems containing bronze or other copper alloys. (ES=O226)Specification = CS3000B
I deduce from this that the GL-5 is the closer of the two to OEP-220, however if there is no difference to the lubricating properties - would it make any difference to use the GL-4 instead??
-
Things have changed a bit then :-) Never had the theory and hazard awareness tests as such. The examiner did ask questions whilst driving about hazards and technical questions - loading, trailer connectivity etc. when doing the off-road bit thats all!
Just be glad you are not doing the off-road manouevering in the Militant!!

Got to get hold of some oil before collecting the Stalwart in a couple of weeks time and the biggest usage is of OMD-75 and OEP-220. OMD-75 is straight SAE-30 oil so no problem there. However OEP-220 is an EP-90 oil available, if I understand things correctly, in GL-4 and GL-5 types. Is this correct and if so - which is nearest to the Mil-Spec, 4 or 5???
Lastly - for the Central Lube system it's recommended to add about 6 pints (roughly 4 litres) of OX-320 - a graphite compound that helps with the tracta joints etc.
One source I've been told of is Achesons "OilDag" at about £18 for 1 litre/1 Kg or £184 for 20 litres/20 Kg. Any one here know of - hopefully cheaper & easier to get - alternatives to this????
-
That was my thought - or one of them Jack!
In the car scene a particular marque/model will have a dedicated club which contains the majority of all the info/specialists relating to that particular type.
The military scene seems to be far more diverse - we have this forum, the MVT itself, IMPS, MilWeb and the mail based forums such as the Yahoo! ones for RL's and Stalwarts. So the more routes open to information, parts etc the better for everyone - or so it seems to me!! :-) :-) :-)
-
If I read the item right - it's not derelict and in need of rescue?? It's parked on land owned by the owner (or his son to be precise...)
Shame though as it looks in good nick - bar the graffiti......
-
Looks interesting - no 24v ones though. At least, not yet!!!
-
Got my membership pack through from the IMVP today. Seemed to me to be a good idea to subscribe to that as well as to the MVT - covering all bases so to speak
Not to mention the entry fee to the W&P show next year :-) :-)
Very impressed with the "Imprint" magazine - my dads asked to borrow it as theres a good article on WW2 motorbikes in it. Things are definitely looking up for me MV wise.
Anyways - it got me wondering - is it the norm in MV circles to have membership of more than one club/association??? In my other interest - that of classic cars you normally only join the one club...
-
Good luck with the test!!!
Is it still the same format - off-road manouevering ("S" reverse into parking bay, drive forward through slalom course into parking bay and emergency stop) then the on-road assessment???
-
Hi Rob,
the 432 rides were still worth the tenner i gave the guy!! :-D Why hack more of a course out? Give the passengers a run for their money by crushing out a course!! :-D There is a 432 on milweb for six grand that I find tempting... I just don't have the money at this precise time, I need to sell my trike first and then I will be okay.
Thanks,
Mick.
If memory serves there is/was a VERY nice 432 on this forum for sale at £6,000 - even tempted me but fortunately for me and for the Stalwart) I'd already spent my money :-)
-
You could always have a look on http://www.yell.co.uk as well. Do a search for something like "Road Haulage Services" in your area!!!
-
Hmmm - did you mean MVT specifically Joris - or MV clubs in general over and above the MVT itself????
-
The Bayuex museum was excellent - there's some photos of the exhibits here:
http://community.webshots.com/album/427317615opKpYv
from when we were in Normandy last year. Also the Utah beach exhibits and the Azeville and Crisbeq batteries.
-
don't worry lee my finger will be in working order and primed for next year!
next time we'll fire the pyros from the safety of the saracen! :-D
I thought for a mo' you were offering the Saracen as the range target!! Couple of Lee's pyro's near that little issue with the fuel tank and all your problems would be solved

Wasn't officially recognized where I work - much to mine and my colleagues disgust

Does anyone else remember this, http://p210.ezboard.com/bmvtforums
Only 31 messages and they have all disappeared now anyway.
Just went and nosed at that link - and it actually says there:
"Welcome to the Military Vehicle Trust's online forums."
Like you say though - dead as a door nail, especially when compared to the thriving communty we have here!!!
-
just spent the entire 4 hours each way wondering what was going to break
then wondering why it hadn't :?
Cheers
Paul
So, I am not the only one then
No different to when they were in service then???
-
I'd have thought MadMan was probably more descriptive though Joris

Jack,
John Tucker (FV601) & myself have recently taken over the running of the North Thames Imps web site that has been dormant for the past few years, we hope to have it up & running within a month & have no problem putting a link to this Forum on the site.
Need any help with that one Lee??
I do some of that for a living when I'm not immersed in Oracle databases :-) :-) :-)
-
Nice one Ashley.
When I asked the Sgt from the Big Red 1 why is it that they always win,
he said that people don't like it if the Germans win....
What is wrong with the public? :
Being rather heavily biased here in working for a German dominated US company (work THAT one out) I have to say absoultely nothing!!! Over here the Germans should always lose :-) :-) :-)
Of course - the other side of the English Channel they may well have the other view!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)

Am I right in thinking (hoping & praying more like....) that the route to Beltring will be well sign-posted
I'm going to be driving alone in the Stalwart ..................... (we won't mention getting over the Dartford crossing.....)!!
Neil,
Coming from the M20, just follow the truck signs for Paddock Wood, you will go straight past it. It is a road well used by foreign trucks bringing in produce for cold stores.
Wait till you get to the Toll Booths on the crossing, you will have to climb over the cab to pay them :-D
Richard
Aaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!! I said don't mention the Dartford crossing!!!! :argh: :argh:
Original plan was to go Wednesday night so the wife mk 1 could accompany (read lead the way) inc. paying the tolls as/if required!! Works invite just shot that one down....
Anyways - there's a couple of PDF files - one's the map overview and the others the turn by turn directions. Generated by AutoRoute with the bias aimed at "A" roads and avoiding motorways and limited access roads so as to minimise the wind up on the Stalwarts transmission. Comments any one????

So - another thought strikes - painfully.....
Am I right in thinking (hoping & praying more like....) that the route to Beltring will be well sign-posted by either the AA, RAC or the organisers as you get close to Beltring - say from the A225, A21 or similar???
I'm going to be driving alone in the Stalwart as I'll be coming straight from the work event and it's be nice if I didnt have to panic over navigation as well as fitting down narrow roads (we won't mention getting over the Dartford crossing.....)!!
-
Ah - makes sense.... It's that sort of "person" who makes you wish the weapon of your choice wasn't deactivated - then you could insert it where the sun shineth not and pull the trigger on full auto......
-
Thanks Chris - I wanted to get some more photo's of the jeeps but I was being rushed off by then as the wife mk1 was concerned the dog had been left on his own all day (the pic of Steve and his Jeep was taken around 15:00 ish and we'd left home at 11:00) I thought the dog would have been OK for a little while longer but you can't argue with SWMBO
-
Which one was yours Steve?? Or were both???
I was looking for HMVF logo's on windscreens or rad grilles - but didn't see any! :-( :-(
LED Bulbs.
in MV Chatter
Posted
Well - in theory.. - they are brighter than conventional bulbs and are supposed to last longer...
Whether they last up to 15 times longer than a pair of conventioal bulbs (which is my calculated life to break even) remains to be seen.....
