  1. I "think" it was OEP-220 but could be wrong - I'm dredging back over 30 years to when I used to drive them and all I recall being in the POL stores for our troop was OMD-75 and OEP-220. If some one else has the servicing schedule then obviously they will have the right answer :D

    (hope that makes sense??)

As for the wheels - again bearing in mind I was aged about 20 at the time - then providing you have the wheel brace, jack with 2-piece handle and block a wheel on, wheel off operation can be done by one man. Provided the wheel is kept upright!! Off's the easy bit. To put a wheel on - line it up with the hub C/Line then, using the jack handle in two pieces, lift the wheel up until you can nudge it over the hub. If the holes don't line up you then "shuffle" the wheel around using the two parts of the jack handle. It was a <censored> of a job though!!!

  2. OK - more good news!! I had a phone call from Tim, the previous owner of the Stalwart tonight - she's been checked out and is ready to roll as and when. He's working 7 on, 7 off so - if I've worked the numbers right - he's free this week end (but I'm not), working the W/E of the 25th and free again the 1st/2nd July.

So it looks like the day she's going to be coming up from the depths of East Sussex will be 2nd July!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

  3. I agree too.

From my own experience MV's always seemed too expensive for the average person such as myself to be able to afford - either running or maint. wise. One of the reasons I first signed up with the TA was to be able to drive these vehicles. It wasn't until recently - within the last year - that I realized they were something I COULD do - with the results most of those who post here know about.

So for me - whenever I get to take the Stalwart out - if any one expresses an interest in her, or MV's generally, then I will ALWAYS have the time to talk with them and show them over the vehicle. If it's possible to take them for a ride in her then so much the better.

For most people the only times they get to see these vehicles in the flesh is at the various shows and so we, all of us, are the ambassadors of the MV movement. The classic car movement is different - come summer certainly you can see all manner of classic cars on the road and people can see and, in garages etc. talk to the owners. When was the last time a GMC, Dodge, Saracen, Saladin etc. was seen cruising around in the sunshine just for the hell of it??

If we make the vehicles - and ourselves - available to the public then we do our bit to ensure the MV movement has a healthy and viable future.

    Just my tuppence worth!! :D

  4. I'll be there with the Stalwart (still waiting for the booking pack to arrive - (changed the booking from the previous owner and paid over the phone last week). The vehicle is booked in on the America's field and the Essex Armour and Softskin crew have kindly offered to let me go in with them - VERY useful as this is my first ever visit to the show in any way, shape or form.

Currently planning on arriving on either the Wednesday evening (19th) or Thursday morning (20th) - depends on whats happening at work and so forth.

What days are everyone else planning on arriving?? Or is everyone else going to be there from day one??

(edited to add dates to arrival days)

  5. :D:D:D

The other article that fascinated me was the positioning system developed for the Army that predated GPS and was as, if not more, accurate!!!!

Not sure what that big "horn" on the back of the Champ did for it's driving dynamics though.....

  6. Mine came today and made interesting reading - the Mk V tank article was fascinating as was Jacks encounter with the front pully on the GMC.

What threw me, though, was the centre spread picture - it's a clubmobile and I thought Cara had acheived fame with Jack - but it was a grey-green colour and, having read the article, it turned out to be a French one...

  7. AEC Militant MK1 1957 œ

Original complete with sides, hoops and canvas, 28k miles needs some work. £1,300.

Yep - it's under the "Heavy"section - I just checked and it's currently 7th from top immediately under an ad for a 1942 Diamond T 969 wrecker diesel with a hole in the block!!!

Wonder what the work required is??????

  8. Anyone wishing to attend this show and wanting to share a community pitch, speak up. Exhibiting vehicles £25:00 per week includes 2 Adult and 2 Child passes. Free camping.

Will be booking, 2nd/3rd week of January 2006. Community area space limited, so First come First Served. Full payment to W&P required

    upfront.

    Look forward to seeing you.

What field are you on karoshi??? All I know right now is the vehicle is booked in and it's on the Amrica's field - reading through the thread again and this one in particular raises the question - does you pitch the tent beside your vehicle or what?? It's dawning on me that I know absolutely nothing of what to do other than how to get there! :? :?

  9. Nothing wrong with Landrovers!!!

Ideal starter vehicles and can lead on to bigger things - when you've found space!!! :D And even then they are great fun as a run-around for collecting spares and so forth!!!

  10. From memory - the Complete Equipment Schedule - this is a document that specifies every item of kit to be carried on a vehicle.

If memory serves further the appropriate document number is stamped on the vehicles ID plate??????

  11. Wow - no idea what that is - but it certainly looks weird!!!!!!!!!!!! The pattern of the camo and the type/width of wheel hint at it being from the late '40's/early '50's from what I recall of other threads....

More than that wild guess I'll leave to the experts here!! :D:D

  12. Must have been a nice drive with todays weather - I'm very envious here!!!!

Glad you enjoyed the trip and that people still show an interest!!!! :D:D

  13. being a JW now this is probably not a wise move[/i]

In that case, you might want to consider saving any of your own that you spill from now on!

    Steve

:D:D:D Be a bit pointless these days - far too many drugs in there and not enough alcohol!!!! Definitely not enough alcohol.......

  14. Looks like getting an MOT exempt vehicle was a wise move then!!! :D:D:D

but that's no excuses for not keeping then tip-top!

This is oh-so-true... But then - if someone wasn't prepared to put the hours and the blood (*) into maintaining their chosen vehicle as close to an A1 state as possible they likely wouldn't have bought it in the firstplace :D:D (this does not include the "rich-kid" fraternity who got something bought by mum and dad and have no idea what the word Maintenance means)

(*) Dunno if it's just me - but any mechanical project I've ever worked on has always resulted in a considerable number of cuts/gashes and attendant loss of the red stuff!! - being a JW now this is probably not a wise move

  15. Rang the War and Peace people uptoday and got the booking for the Stalwart changed to my name! Left me £25 lighter in the wallet area as the previous owner was a member of IMVP so had free entry :D

Anyways - looks like we'll be in the America's field too so if you see a Mk 2 Stalwart with the reg mark of RCD 233 G come and say hello!!

I'm aiming to get there on the Wednesday evening after work (all being well) and will have a tent - civvy I'm afraid for now - to basha down in till the weekend!

  16. Will do. Return visit won't be till mid August 2007 though!!!!!

I'm looking forwards to seeing the King Tiger in the Salle Allemand and the engine for one in the Salle des Moteurs. One thing struck me - they say there's is the only working King Tiger - I thought that the one in the Russian Museum was a runner too, as were all their Tiger family?????

  17. OK Folks - back again (waits for the chorus of groans....)!! :D

Had a great time - weather was perfect once we got there although the first half of the drive down was pretty awful being done at night in thick mist, rain and winds :( Still - much wine consumption and absorbtion of the suns rays soon reduced this to a minute memory. :D Even had wine tasting sessions and cave tours!!!!

Whilst there I saw adverts and signs to:

Musee des Blindes (Panzer Musee) at Saumur

    • "An up to date focal point for the study of the history of 20th century conflict recounting the evolution of armoured vehicles and armaments"
    • " The world largest collection: more than 200 tanks and artillery peices from 16 different countries that are set in realistic scenarios"
    • "A museum that brings history alive though its collection of armoured vehicles that have been restored into working order and video clips that continuously illustrate how they were employed"

      Web address: http://www.musee-des-blindes.asso.fr

Alas with all the planned items of the rally I never had a chance to get to this museum and have a look/take photo's - buit apparently we are going back for two weeks next year so this will be on the list of To Do items!! Has any one else been there and is it as good as it sounds????[/list:u]
