  1. What uniform are you after? I once thought about using Sanjay and then thought better of it, purely because if anything goes wrong, you haven't got a leg to stand on. I have heard more bad stories than good about them. Take a look here : http://www.wwiireenacting.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15986 and here : http://wwiireenacting.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16778&highlight=replicators. I think it sometimes depends on what uniform you are after. The uniform I wanted, no-one did, so I ended up visiting a lady called Della Rebours in Harrogate who did all the measuring etc and we confirmed materials etc to ensure that the uniform was as original as possible, she has done an absolutely fantastic job. Since having the uniform made, I have had the chance to see an original and our's is very almost spot on, I think there was just 1 very small detail missing, but as she was working from photos, she did alot better than expected. 2. My friend drove my Workshop back from Newcastle last year, blew the engine near Peterborough. It cost me £100 in fuel to drive the Dodge there and to tow it back home. Lots less than what it would have cost me to lowload it or get it recovered some other way. But then again, on hindsight, not sure my friend knew how to drive the Workshop, don't believe it would have broken down if myself or Mick had gone to pick it up. Oh well. Cara x
  3. We all drive our vehicles to every show, no matter how far. It is much more fun and we have a large convoy (Which is ever growing). The vehicles we drive are mostly jimmy's, but the halftrack is also included in this. What is the point of having a beautiful vehicle if you don't drive it anywhere !! We have a couple of spare pairs of tracks which we purchased this year (Cheap), also, it would cost more to low load it to events than petrol it uses. We drove it from Farnborough to the Victory show last year and I believe it is booked to go to Normandy this year also. Our guys know enough about our vehicles that if they do break down we can fix them, if not we tow it with one of the other trucks. We turned up at the Military Odyssey show last year with an extra Jimmy we picked up on the way, which had broken down on the motorway. We also carry a few extra parts and tools just in case. Always better to be safe than sorry. Always drive !! Cara x
  4. Ok Girls, Just wondering who is attending which events this year? Here is my list : Waltham Abbey, Gunpowder Mills, 6th & 7th May 2006 "PRELUDE TO D-DAY" A Village at War 13th, 14th May 2006 Overlord Show (Horndean) 27th, 28th & 29th May 2006 Alton in the 40's - Saturday 24th June 2006 Aldershot Army Show 15th & 16th July 2006 The War & Peace Show, 17th to 23th July 2006 Military Odyssey 26th, 27th & 28th August 2006 Victory Show - 9th / 10th September 2006 So which events are you going to? 6. Well, he's gotta keep his gloves somewhere
  7. Basically, all you need is a lovely man who sorts out the importation for you, then you need the Vehicle Reg Document (From which ever country you are buying it from), the importation documents, insurance details, driving license (Incl. card), the V550 form and send all that off and back comes a nice new DVLA Reg Doc and confirmation of your reg details. Obviously, depending on whether it is MOT excempt or not, you would need the MOT certificate or the MOT Excemption form to go with the above. It really is simple, or atleast it is after you have already done it once. Done it twice now, and would definately do it again, (easy and cheap) ...... if I ever found another vehicle I wanted, but I think I have enough for now. Cara x
  8. Hi Guys, Looks like there is nothing to worry about : http://www.wwiireenacting.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=222308#222308 Cara x
  9. Plus £250 ferry cost £300 fuel costs, including dodge collection £75 spare engine share another £100 ish on bits and pieces, new drill, blades, etc So that's atleast another 725  Plus more that I can't remember now. Cara x
  10. You'll be mostly paying for our blood, sweat and tears though I fear. This is costing the earth, all I can say, is it had better be worth it Cara x I am sure it will be, is just looks a little like a Frankenstein monster at the moment whilst it is morphing.
  11. If you guys can supply us with say oooohhhhh atleast £30K per truck, for the materials, time and also blood, sweat and tears, then we may consider it
  12. I also wondered this. The only reasoning I have been able to come up with was that the Army simply coded them Dodge WC63 (For instance) like a model of car, and the GI's made up a name to go with the initials, hence Weapons Carrier. Don't know if this is true or an old wives tale, but is the only explanation I have been able to come up with, thus far. Cara x

  14. Paul, I would say that aslong as your insurance covers you for X amount of passengers, then you are legally allowed to carry passengers. Cara x
  15. In the UK you ARE permitted to carry passengers in the back of your Dodge or GMC etc, as long as you have the relevant insurance. Otherwise we would have prosecuted numerous times. We have travelled the Pyrenees and back with one of our Jimmy's, with passengers in the back. They were built to carry passengers and that is what they are used for. Shame you can't in Holland or Australia. Are there any other countries where you can't carry passengers ? Cara x
  16. I only passed my test in 2000 (I think) and only have a normal license. I can drive Dodge's, Jimmy's etc, even the half-tracks (If I wanted to, which I don't). The main one that I have to deal with, is if I want to tow a trailer, I now have to take a trailer license. The problem with DVLA is that they don't mention anything about Historic Military vehicles on their website. You are best to phone the DVLA regarding Historic Vehicles to find out what you can and can't drive. Cara x
  17. Hi Commander, What Dodge do you have ? I can see the Jeep not being much of a problem as there isn't too much weight there and they are no bigger than a car really. Cara x P.s, Does anyone know what the approx. weight of a Dodge WC63 is ? I haven't got round to getting to a weigh station yet and the only info I have is in Norwegian, which I couldn't work out and I don't think DVLA could either.
  18. I tried that with the GMC Workshop, told the AA that it was basically a transit and they sent someone out, who turned around straight away and said tha I needed to get hold of a Commerical Vehicle Breakdown company. I bought Membership on the phone to get them to see the truck , but luckily I managed to get a full refund. But, I am looking into the possibilty of getting a company to do some sort of Breakdown Cover Membership for the larger vehicles. The AA now do larger vehicles for companies, but the weight has changed enough to cover Jimmy's and Dodges, plus I don't have a company. For insurance, I am with Footman James, they were cheaper than roadsure. About £85 fully comp for 4 drivers for my Dodge WC63 for a year. Cheap or what !! Cara x
  19. Hi Madman, We met this group in Normandy and at War and Peace last year. This is also a Workshop which has been converted, there are quite a few differences between this and the Original Clubmobiles. Hatches on the wrong side of the truck, wrong back doors, the compartment above the Cab has been stuck on (You can only see this when they remove the webbing). It is lovely, but ours will be better  Cara x P.s, Mick you can't let me down now that I have made that comment.
  20. Berni, I generally go to the same events as Mick, but if he has an event and I don't, I generally send the kids round their Nannies and then get the girls round for a good alcohol session with flicks and games etc. Cara x

Thanks for that Tyler, I will take a look. Sorry for jumping on your thread Guys, I will leave now. Cara x
  22. I posted this on the CCKW site, but thought I ought to post here aswell. Jack, I think it depends on which GMC you are talking about. It seems to me that the closed cabs seats are quite a bit thicker and springier than the Open Cabs. For instance, I bounce around like anything in the Closed Cabs, and don't find it too bad in the open ones. I will ask Mick and Jem to check their seats as they are different. Not sure whether they are supposed to be, but the Closed Cab view/window seems smaller than the open cab one aswell. Cara x

Sorry Guys, But what is MLU ? Thanks, Cara x
  24. Come on then girls, let's find out what impressions we have on here ? I am one of three girls who re-enact the American Red Cross Clubmobiles in the ETO from 1944. We have makeshift Clubmobile at the moment but are also converting a GMC Workshop into a GMC Clubmobile. We have had our BD uniform made for us by Della Rebours. What does everyone else do ? Added as many as I can think of right now. Cheers, Cara x
