  1. no, swim gear off, wanted to reduce the weight as much as possible dowtys are heavy...and all the associated shafts bevel boxes and other bits...all off...saving over half a ton, plus loads of other bits, plus a tank only 20 gallons etc etc...winch may go next...contemplating options...would like to get her down to 6 tons, not sure if its possible, we will see...

  2. no I have the other two here, will be fitted once she gets back...looks interesting with the two tyres, the ural tyres seem to be slightly less wide...taller but less wide...will experiment with pressures...once she is out on the tracks..

  3. to unload/load the rack always use auto, as above, make sure you are on level ground (as if), and with the hand brake off, ENGAGE AUTO ON THE PTO CONTROL...use the jockey stick to UNLOAD....I usually put my foot on the foot brake until the rack hits the ground, then let her roll forward with the revs at about 1300-1400 until the rack is down, ....HAND BRAKE, DISENGAGE HOOK, move forward a tad and LOAD to stow the hook, load switch to off and away you go.

    Loading,

Loading, position yourself behind the rack and put the hand brake on, ENGAGE AUTO ON THE PTO CONTROL...UNLOAD to bring the arm back...once down and about level with the rack, get out and check if on own, (with practice you can get close enough to miss out the adjustment phase)...then move the truck back to engage the rack. Once engaged, ...LOAD to take up the slack and to connect with the load, take her out of reverse into neutral, leave the hand brake off.....USING THE JOCKEY STICK LOAD 1300-1500 REVS AND UP SHE COMES. hand brake on once the rack is off the ground....

there are no load locks as you know but if you are on un-level ground you may have to do a bit of drag and adjustment shuffles..carefully... as it doesn't take much of a slope to bugger it all up..

never drive with the pto on...

    think thats about it...

  4. I have recently purchased an 8 x 4 with flat bed, I am assuming it was a tanker at some stage in its life, I dont have as yet its army number......how can I find the trucks correct age,I have been searching the internet but getting no where...

  5. No don't be confused by my meandering post - I suppose you'd call it an '8 speed range change' which is exactly what you said, a 4 over 4.

Try depressing the clutch only part way and see if it changes easier. What is it like engaging a gear when stationary? I'm sure the previous owner can advise on clutch brake or not.

no he did not and as far as I know doesnt know of one, will give it a try tomorrow,

so basically depress the clutch only part way..until it snicks into gear, well my driver will give it a go I have to wait another 2 weeks before I can drive again...

  6. Paul - not being funny but if this is the Eaton Twin Splitter box, you are aware of the clutch brake on this unit? Push the clutch down too far you won't get any gears!!

Try pressing the clutch down only just far enough to engage the gears. Once moving you can split without even using the clutch - keep power on while selecting the next split you intend to make, then when you decide to change just ease off the throttle, the drive will slacken and the split will then take place without you even realising it (just a slight clunk) until you take up drive on the throttle again.

If you know all this then apologies - just trying to help :cheesy:

No I do not know this....sorry maybe it is me, its four over four, sorry am not that clear on these boxes and the terminology...I use four low then push the button and four high,..it is hard to engage every gear....

  7. Your addicted! :D

I would love more toy's, but not sure the missus would let me get too many, ( although her hobby, horses, costs just about as much)

but i have a couple more in mind!

    Cheers

    Shaun

    I am for sure..

  8. oh no collection of the stollies is the 23rd, the day after I am set free from my bonds....will be very tricky...but if I use the daf it will be easy as no gear change. Then I am off to buy at least two more..and then convert at least one more to diesel, so 3 diesel two petrol....also after a petrol 432 but I am completely full with vehicles, now need to get more land..am looking,...

    stolly 2 being prepared.

  9. it certainly needs something as changing gear is a pig, it crunches like an old crash box nearly, once she is running and warm things get easier but I suspect something is wrong with the box, was thinking of putting the auto box out of the leyland daf ,as there are a few about...but its a bit too much of a job for my gang right now...so I think a simple bit of adjustment for now before I go on the trail of a new box....the lights are bad and the speedo broken, all will be sorted in the next few weeks...
