  1. when I get my place sorted out I will start a small museum, I want to collect engines and have them running....piston engines for sure, not so sure about jet engines, but you can run these up with electric motors...As soon as have my place set up I will be on the hunt for anything like this...shame I am not ready yet...it will be at least another 6 months before I have my business sold and can concentrate on the museum and other projects...

  2. As Bran said earlier the 9 speed Fuller can either be a direct top or overdrive top. The RTX 11609 for instance has a torque capacity of 1160 ft lbs, 9 speeds and with an overdrive top of 0.74:1.

0.74 to 1 will be good as that will run me better than 60mph. I am assuming the 8 speed is direct drive...so at max revs I was getting 52/3 mph, with a 30% approximately reduction I should see over 60 mph...fingers crossed.

  3. we have replaced everything on the down side of the pump, it works for a while then stops running, it simple stops pulling up the fuel...its driven me to total distraction. I now have a pipe running from the pump, to the filters to the tank...nothing inbetween we even bypassed the filters at one point.,..no go the pump has a leak, so it must be letting in air, it has to be replaced...will try man/daf/perkins suppliers...

  4. Popped in to see Paul and say Hello Bumped into Landy Andy in the depths of a Foden chassis. Nice to meet Paul and have a quick look around some of his toys!!!

we are changing the gearbox it is an eight speed, i am assuming the nine speed is a bigger overdrive, i am hoping it is as 52 to 53 is not great for this truck. they used to run 65 mph.

the eaton 8 speed is fine and i have a pto pump for the fuller 9 speed box....if it doesnt run at 60 then i will be disapointed...

  5. utter twaddle, my merc is now in its fourth year, it went through its first mot without a tickle, pointless and needless. we will start doing MOt's on anything that moves soon, I have been known to make 35mph on the straight on my push bike, when will it be before some twit thinks these need an mot....all cods wallop. If you want to introuduce ever more rules and regulations go ahead. I dont want them, anyone who seriosuly thinks it helps society has his (asexual term for all humans male or female) head in the sand...or some other undescribable place..

  6. Paul, the monster heavy duty winch is an ex-Crusader 35T tracror unit Plumett winch, it has a single line pull rating of 8 tons with 275 foot of rope on it. The winch may be visibly big but broken down into its component parts it is quite versatile dont be fooled by the big hydraulic tank on it. The gearbox I sold you should fit right up to the engine without any problem and it had a very good lipe rolaway clutch with it. Stay with the manual gearbox, there are too many complications fitting up an auto box to that engine. The only electronics on that Eagle is a pulse output to the tacho.

THANKS john its getting someone who knows these trucks to do it for me...and my thoughts were to put a pulley block at the front, of the flat bed body, so increasing its effective straight line pull to 16 tons without further need for a snatch block...

anyone know anyone who can do this for me...just got too much work to do myself...

  7. Well it has finally given up the ghost, the engine is lovely but the gearbox I thought was knackered but it turns out the clutch which was replaced a few miles ago, is completely gone, well I think it has, I havent had the heart to go see if its adjustment yet...

I will get the boys to have a look and see if it really has gone or it its the clutch mechnism before i finally give up and get her totally overhauled. I would like to get the old girlrunning properly but have yet to decide how to go. I would love to fit an allison auto box, the engine is good for about 340 bhp so no need to change that but would an auto work...is it a big job, with modern electrics and things would the older eagle engine have the rigth sensors to operate the gearbox...anyone know how to do this.

I really want this truck to be my main haulage truck for fairs and things....it really needs a complete going over...I dont have the staff or time right now...needs loads of interior bits for it too, new blinds and interior niceties...would have loved to have a foden sleeper cab fitted.

I boght a big monster heavy duty winch from John on here and an eaton nine speed to replace the eaton 8 speed in the hope to restore some of the speed of the original GS but have not had any hope of fitting it...and the winh is so larg am concerned it will reduce my load space too much....may have to think about fitting it via a pulley block at the front...and drop the winch inbetween the chassi rails somewhere...but likely now it will never get fitted.

anyone have any idea how easy it is to fit an autobo0x or would it be easier to buy an engine and box complete...and drop that in...

  8. I think that its a load of traditional good old twaddle, jobs for the boys to prove they are actually doing something useful...if its fitted then lets test it, twaddle.......real problem lies with the driver behind the wheel and his level of skill, in the awful state of british and other roads and the complete and utter lack of proper training for the everyday road user....its not the wheels he is using that is to blame for accidents or the dangers on the road...

  9. Just done new year, magnificent, fireworks and lovely people, drinks cheapish and late breakfast this morning, so happy and propserous new year to one and all... in addition am buying new engine for my 813, all sorted, buying from the lovely guys at Mortar and then popping up to poland hopefully to buy zil number 11 with a kraz engine and compressor on the back......I was told it had been sold but apparently not...and I will be taking a look at one or two other machines...dont think I will buy anything though...and it all depends upon the snow...I mistakenly took the merc and its crap in the snow, I have a bag full of studs in the back just in case, but if the snow comes down heavy I may just head back and miss poland...

  10. Fascinating . Thanks for taking the trouble to post them up .

if only...the problem with Russia is getting the stuff out, loads of paperwork, the old communist state now replaced by the mafia state, although as much as i dislike Putin and his methods he is chasing down all those who stole from the country...bit by bit...and taking it back...interesting justice in Russia...

  11. IF YOU RUN MAXIMUM 15% you may find she runs a tad sweeter and you may not get the carb freezing and or the poor running at high temperature. modern petrol is very volatile and paraffin can reduce its volatility a tad...but i am with richard, it can increase wear...

get a jolly electronic ignition, best addition to any B series engine ever...

  12. yep its all coming together now, john built a peak and hold box for the injecter system to take the load off the megasquirt

so each injecter is now indevidualy controlled and also a test box built in to see if they are all working, first show we will do is overlord subject to getting the transporters in

slab would be a great place to take tracked vehicles but for some reason only these two/three machines are allowed. 400 quid is a lot of money and its great that people offer some cash to help but I think if more tracked vehicles were allowed we may see a better heavies turn out...nowadays its just me and John. Makes it all feel a bit pointless really...although i have a great time I have 200 acres all my own so coming out isnt really just for me its for people to see these beasts working...

we need more heavies on these dates so come on your guys get those scammels out, I am told they are really good off road. Bet they are not as good as my Urals, or even the Zils, and my Berliet will take some beating off road with its diff locks. The star has diff locks all round but not convinced about her yet, she doesnt seem as good as the russian trucks... this weekend was her first outing and she didnt get there.
