  1. That's a shame Paul to have it go wrong of all weekends. Do you have any of the DROPS AESPs ? I think I have the complete set which includes fault finding & parts list, 19 sheets of FAESP.

no I have the full parts manual but that is it...could do with the full set of everything but not found them yet...are yours for sale or can you copy for me for a price...

  2. hmm it is as I thought a mix of issues...I think the rev counter must have an issue with the newly fixed alternator, did i mention that...it worked alright before it was fixed but the guages were playing up prior to the alternator being replaced.../repaired..have an auto electrician coming monday.

I was goping to come clive, i was going to bring the daf with the FH77 and a saracen, was going to then leave them at the muesuem to add to their collection...but cant drive it wihout the rev counter the oil guage and temperature guage not working,...would have me worried all the way...also going to drop off a Star 660 and maybe a zil 131 truck too. not sure how many they can take but i think a few military vehicles will add to the sites interst level...

  3. I am sort of involved with a HHO system manufacturer that reduces emissions on diesel engines and improves fuel consumption, so far only tested inacurately and hence the reason for fitting to the DROPS truck.

However the project has identified a few faults on the truck, first the altenator diodes failed and the output dropped to less than 24 volts, this was repaired, however on refitting we now have the oild pressure guage, the temperature guage and the rev counter all instantly moving to full on, ie moving as if at full values, now to our minds this would normally indicate a earth problem but we have checked all the earths and as much of the cable paths as we can and can find no apparent earth fault or broken wire....does anyone have any idea what we may have done to the guages...

there is a diode in the back of the intrument panel and this could have failed...anyone any ideas

  4. it has its pluses and it has its minuses...cars with the odd fault are not a major cause of accidents. No disater will occur because some people dont get their car mot'd annually. However the biggest issue i feel is that people use the MOT as the indicator to have the car repaired, they drive their car for the year take it for an mot and repair it to pass the mot then continue driving with no further work until the next MOT. We have to do this all the time for people...we had a beutiful lloking Jeep in we could not beleive it passed the mot last year, this year we said we wont even take it as the work to resolve the problems is too long...the owner still wanted us to try, the car ran beautifully but was chassis wise a wreck, rusted through in many places...

MOT's should be replaced by an annual service check...where the problems are resolved, not just to pass the MOT but to make the car safe and driveable...the MOT sort of works as is and is the best we have but I dont think it actually does a great deal more than just force a few people to have their vehicles part fixed...mostly its lights znd indicators that vehicles fail on...simple to fix but we dont fix them until after the MOT test..

  5. what a crock of trouble, we have a mad administration system, we have loopy people in government, we have loopy people in local government, and they are now working their way into the army.

i farm 187 acres of land, the council visited the other week, they saw the cows, they saw the tractor, they saw the crush, the cow hand;ling facilities, the cow only trailer, for taking the cows to the abattoir, they saw the 4 kms of stock fencing and they said there was no evidence of farming....are these people stark staring mad...I think ths answer is yes...

  6. the clutch master cylinders are a bit like hens teeth if i remember rightly. is yours leaking...try some seal restorer first. I find it works a treat...best to strip the unit and soak over a few days in the seal restorer then rebuild and you will get a bit more life out of it...

  7. well we went to drive her home but no luck. after a fair bit of fine fettling she was running well but she had three drive shaft gaitors damaged. I think they are more used to stoip dirt getting in than holding oil but with three gone and the prospect of bad weather I felt it too much of a risk to bring her home...so she is coming by haulage company...

  9. After many years of collecting trucks I always wanted a tatra 813, so in desperation when a wreck came up for sale i went for it...not good engine fooked, bodywork not great and it had been well abused...will need a lot of work, then in quick succession over the past few weeks four good ish ones have appeared...

I therefore had no choice but to buy the best one of the bunch...

I now have two, the scond one will get a new engine and will be restored over the next few weeks. However the pressure is off...so will take my time...this truck will be used as another haulage truck so wont be ragged about...the other one will also be used as a haulage truck but will do a bit of off roading...

  10. thanks for the help guys lift pump fitted and truck working...as regards presurising system all done, all previous leaks sorted, this time it was the lift pump...next time a cracked pipe maybe, the list of fuel issues this truck has had have been unbelievable...anyway all working now, or so we think, I will wait until I have run her for a bit....

I think i have said i have over time replaced most parts of the fuel system, including removing a load of rubber from the inside of the fuel tank...what was tha all about..

  11. They seem to be managing just fine in Helmand province. I remember when folks used to say of the Scammel DROPS "yes but is it squaddie proof?"

Remember that the average british soldier could break an anvil...

forget about the average british soldier, I can break and do everything and anything...
