How do you recognise that Richard? .
Aviation Jersey rebuild plate on the side of the engine.

You've got a lot of work there! What were they trying to do with the doors on the side and extra 'stuff'?

If you don't insert a break, press enter a few times etc, between the photos your web browser tries to put them on the same line.

It's been a long time since I updated this thread.. needless to say the Spartan made it to W&P, other than a leak from the heater matrix there were no issues. We did the road run through Hythe which was enjoyable, other than the crazy 432 driver I had to follow!
Here's a video of us enjoying the arena... I just love the diesel exhaust note in the on board footage!
And some photos too..
Work before next year is to fix the leaky heater matrix, and repair some unfortunate damage to the rear end. I'm not sure if it will be going back to W&P next year, if I'll get the Scimitar down there, or if we don't take either of them.

Matt,
I never broke down in either the Lightweight or the M151. I did lots more miles in the Lightweight and the only issue I can think of is when the brake warning light came on. That was solved with a new rear wheel cylinder, it was still fitted with the originals at that stage. I have had no issues with the M151, but then I replaced nearly everything on it when I built it! You have to remember both are old vehicles so you're more likely to have problems with old or worn out parts than anything else.

Hi Matt,
I'm not really sure what information you are looking for...
I have owned and restored both a Series 3 Lightweight and a M151A2. I sold the Lightweight a few years ago, but still have a few Land Rovers. One reason for selling it was that it spent most of it's time sitting in the garage, it was not as useful as the 110s as I couldn't get as much stuff in the back. The M151 spends just as much time sat in the garage, but it is at least a bit different when I take it out and about.
Both suffer from rust, but the Lightweight is easier to fix as you can get the chassis sections and repair it fairly easily. The M151 requires a lot more effort to fix and mine had to have new floors etc. In the UK at least Land Rover parts are cheap and easy to obtain, restoring the M151 over here cost me a small fortune in shipping and import duty alone.
Over your side of the pond the opposite will no doubt apply!

Wrong end of the stick I think... This one was for sale, the others you mention are not! You never know, the new owner may have loads of parts stashed away waiting for a hull to come along.

I did!
There was a nice chap at the Duxford show a couple of years back who had one, and he loved it.
Sorry Lauren! A friend also has one and rates it highly.

Autosparks maybe?

Last year I bought a Land Rover 110 from Withams through an online auction for less than £2000. It had a full tank of diesel, the battery was charged and it passed an MOT with no advisories straight away. It is a useable 4x4 military truck and you will get one for less than £2k if you are patient.
Nobody has mentioned RB44s, you may pay a bit more than £2k but you could get one which needs tidying through a tender fairly cheap too.

Having ordered one of these poppies I'd quite like it to be removed and send to me so I can put it in my garden!

They are asking about twice what it's really worth..

Steve,
Welcome to the forum. You will need to get the Jeep verified by the MVT, then fill in a V55 with the dating letter and probably a NOVA form.

Ok, that makes 5. I'll place an order and see how we get on!

Is there any interest in new manufacture rear hull bin covers for Sabre?
I am talking to the manufacturer and they come in at around £120. I might be ordering some for my vehicles so could order a few more if required.

Changing them is very involved, probably easier to buy a new gearbox if they are worn out!

How long is a piece of string?
10 years ago when they released all the petrol CVRTs they were all missing engines and messier dampers. If you could find an engine it wouldn't have a heat exchanger. 5/6 years later the engines were released and they were everywhere. Messier dampers were unobtainable, then very expensive, now everyone has some they are worth next to nothing. In 5/6/10 years time there will be loads of gearboxes and no vehicles as they will have been scrapped or sold abroad.
If you have the money and the space it's probably worth gambling on buying a nice one and storing it.

Gearboxes have been available, I was able to find one for my Scimitar and even had a spare for some time. I am told it costs £58000 to upgrade a petrol gearbox to a diesel one if you send it to David Brown. There is an issue with them in service with the casings cracking. There are also several upgrades which have been done to them, for example the TN15E and TN15E+. These will be the ones they are removing to keep for spares, as they were mainly used over in BATUS all the Sturgeons, Salamanders etc which had them fitted have had them removed before disposal.

Phil,
I hope that's just a typo as there is no clutch pedal! If you've been using it as one then you could be in for some problems. It sounds like a false neutral to me. Get both feet on it and try to press it down.

There are also several versions of these. Some have a small side door, some a larger one. Some have an additional bar at the top as part of the door mechanism, most don't. I have a small side door and hinge and need a larger one... long shot but I'd swap it for the bit I need!
-
Seb,
It's made up of several pieces, the door and main body are easy to cast but then you need the hinge, the door in the side and it's hinge etc. it will also all need machining. Quite a lot of work!

None of the CVRTs in the tender have gearboxes.
