You could try blasting with glass bead?
-
Thanks - you're right about the 2.5 NAD but I'm wondering if I can find out what it was originally designed to fit and whether it will fit my landy without chassis mount alterations?
It will be from a 90 or 110.

ABRO was the Army Base Repair Organisation. It is now DSG. They do all the rebuilds and repairs on MoD kit.

I guess the engine is a 2.5 NAD?

The small welded plate is the hull number not the contract number. Given the date I am guessing it's going to be xx CA xx?

Mark - the £600 price is for the track adjuster on eBay.

Hi Shane,
There are a number of diesel Scorpions at Withams but none have a gearbox. Currently there is no source for a diesel gearbox unless you buy a complete Spartan or Sultan at the same time and break it for spares. The gearboxes are worth more than the rest of the vehicle so you need deep pockets.

Hi Charlie,
I'm not sure, they all look the same. I had a few wolf ones which I sold a few years ago, I'd have to dig out some photos.

Charlie,
They are the same but the Wolf one has no tool brackets etc.

Look up eBay item number 131397150044

Barrie,
Fair enough, I just looked at the website, including the gallery and saw only FV430s.

An FV439 is neither large or a tank!

I have a tool like the one pictured (with adapters) but it's a pain to use, so I bought one of these:
Much easier to use. Shop around and you should get one for a lot less money too.

If you haven't got the 654 you'll never get one. You can request a merlin report from the mod using a freedom of information request, which will have the chassis number, date in service and the units it was issued to. We've had a few vehicles without a 654 and registered one last year using the merlin report and a verification letter from the MVT.
-
Nick,
What dating evidence do you have? Have you got the Merlin Report from the MOD? Verification letter from the MVT?
Chris

Of course it is possible, and people do. I'm not sure who would be prepared to pay someone with no experience to restore expensive vehicles though.

There are a lot of younger vehicle owners. I don't think younger members are interested in joining in with running clubs, getting involved in committees etc.
-
Before you take it for the mot have a quick search on Google for the list of what they check and go through it yourself.

Barry,
I would expect the hull number to be more like 79 than 9? Given the registration number is 02FD76 and the earliest number I know of is 01FD96.

Guy - no reason why you can't shorten the dip stick yourself, I have heard of others doing it.

Sad to see them looking like that, they were tidy a few years ago when going through Withams tender sales.
