The Facebook group is more to do with ex crew reminiscences, there are very few current owners who post on it. Good for in service pics though and some excellent tales.

if you include those in museums/gate guards there must be many more than 20 survivors

There are more than 20 but less than 50 from memory. I did start a list a long time ago. Of course there are lots of vehicles hidden away in sheds that are not well known so there could be more.

  2. Ron,

I assume you have turret batteries connected and the turret master switch is on? The turret electrical installation isn’t too complicated so there shouldn’t be much wrong.

Take some photos of the turret, boxes, RBJ etc and post them here. I’ll see if you’re missing something obvious.

I'm probably asking too much but could someone put a tutorial on how to use the new forum on YouTube?

Works best in full screen at 1080p.

I've thrown the towel in now, just cant get on with the new format which is a shame as I had a few restoration threads on the go which have progressed nicely lately and I would of liked to share buts that's not to be anymore on this site.

That's a real shame. The forum does just about everything the old one did and in an almost identical way. All the functions are still there. What exactly about the new forum (other than it's just 'different') are you struggling with?

  5. I actually quite like the new format, the unread content page lets me see some of the content in a post so I can decide if I am interested enough to click on it or not.

At the end of the day Joris spent many hours updating the software, he didn't do it for fun. The old software was obsolete and no longer supported by the developer. If we had a major issue with it the forum might have been gone for good. I'm sure everyone will get used to this format before too long... or maybe we should just go back to type writers?

The track grips on our ferret were badly cracked, so were replaced with bar grips. I left the ferret at my local tyre fitters for a few hours and when I returned they told me that only 3 of the track grips had runflat inserts!  They put them back inside the new tyres. So I now have 3 "bulletproof" wheels!

Not quite! The sidewall of the trakgrip gives you the runflat capability, not the insert. Take it from someone who had 2 punctures on normal tyres with those inserts in on the same weekend!

  7. Fox parts are difficult to come by. The only way you’ll find an instrument panel is from a vehicle which has been broken up. I’ve never seen one for sale. The actual instruments are common to other types so that’s maybe your best option.

  8. Hi Simon,

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of most of those... I am still non the wiser about the 2 large holes with the groups of smaller holes around them, one above the spare wheel carrier and the other over a bit?

It does look like the spare wheel carrier has been moved at some point. I believe this body came from Oklahoma and had a V8 fitted so needs some work at the front end too.

I could do with finding someone who's good at restoring Jeep bodies who would look at sorting this tub out for me as although I'd have a go I don't think I have the time at the moment. Any suggestions?

    Cheers,

    Chris

  9. After removing about half an inch of filler I've discovered loads of holes in the rear panel of my GPW tub. Some of them look too good to be bodged in later in it's life. Does anyone know what they might have been for?
