  1. The only way these vehicles will be saved is by people like yourself putting in all this skill and work. I finished a 10 year restoration of a 1950 Commer last summer, welding/grinding/welding/grinding sounds so familiar. Keep the pics coming, its nice to see how others tackle problems. Kevin
  2. There looks to be plenty of varied makes in the car park behind.
  3. Now thats more like it. I would presume that would be private chauffeur driven not services driven. I wonder if there is a list of cars used by the war cabinet? Kevin
  4. I wonder if I can find photos showing cars used by Whitehall during the war? Bigger Humbers / Hillmans etc?
  5. She does look in really good nick. Looks like a very good project. Kevin.
  6. Whats the engine needed for? We have some AEC spares but think they might all be for the 505. Kevin
  7. Whilst on lockdown like many others I have taken to doing some sorting and tidying. Over the years I have been a keen collector of Commer, Hillman and Ford literature and I am trying to catalogue it all now we can't go out too much. I found these Commer Superpoise Handbooks, what I would give to have the real thing to go with them!! I will keep looking and see what other handbooks of interest come up, I do know I have WD Minx and Tilly literature.
  8. I have our Minx in the garage so that's ok to move out to show on the drive but the bigger Hillman is down the other end of the village in a lock-up that is packed full so its very its awkward getting her in and out of there. My youngest and I made this for our VE Display. Its nice to get him involved in something other than xbox or gaming!
  9. We are up for doing it again on the 6th. It was good fun getting it all ready.
  10. I found a Union Jack flag amongst my Grandfathers wartime possessions, I hung this inside on our big Hillman. Very few people in our village put anything out which was a shame. Kevin.
  11. Thought it must be Voluntary Transport with it being RNVT on the caps, they are very good pictures. The Vauxhall 14 seems to have been a popular staff car. Kevin.
  12. I very much like the 75th VE Day flag, where did you get that from? Kevin
  13. The shoulder titles are hard to make out. They definately start with 'Royal Navy' and on the hats it looks like the last two words start with 'V' and then 'T'. Kevin.
  14. Thank you for these. Its interesting to see the last couple photos are of RN Minx's and the RN badge looks to be displayed in the windscreen. Kevin.
  15. I am trying to research what uniforms would have been worn by staff car drivers in the Royal Navy during WW2. I also would like to find out what rank or trade a driver would be? Anyone got any photos maybe? Kevin.
  16. How is the Karrier looking now? Is the restoration finished? Would be nice to see some pics. Kevin.
  17. I will take some and post them on the forum. Kevin.
  18. After researching the Commer Beetle for a while now my question would be how many actually survive?
  19. This is our 1947 Phase 1 Minx, the 1940 model resumed in production after the war. Kevin
  20. This is our 1937 Hillman 80. She is an enclosed drive limousine, has the wind down division and occasional seats. These were mainly used by Whitehall and the services during the war. She has been used in many films and we have ferried round dignitaries at WW2 events. She is totally original and she will be kept that way. Kevin.
  21. We were the only people in our road to display anything. Phase 1 Minx and our 37 Hillman 80.
  22. I took 20 years to find the correct grill for one of my cars, eventually I found one in New Zealand and it cost more to ship it over than it cost buying it! Keep looking, an engine is out there somewhere and it will be worth it in the end. Very much worth it.
  23. Rush Green have been having a major clearout in the last 12 months. Much of the older stuff has sadly been cut up and is now gone forever. I have a few friends that have bought from there and although the prices are high they argue that the parts were so rare where else could they find them?
  24. Hi, I have just joined the forum, one of my interests is collecting wartime Royal Navy Uniforms. Anyone else on the forum collecting the same? Kevin
  25. I am a new member to the forum. We have a 1947 Hillman Minx, the phase 1 model introduced in 39/40. If you need any advice or photos etc let me know if I can help. I also have quite a large library of manuals etc that I can copy. Kevin.
