  1. Er this is my meadows diesel:red: the petrol one had the exhaust on this side. what engine is it?
  2. don't suppose thats a meadows diesel engine in there is it?
  3. Hi Andy was just re reading / looking at the pictures / of you restoration and was wondering how your going to get Daisy out of the garden. looks a bit tight not sure how the garden path will look after you have driven over it
  4. Our old crane is a coles hydra husky 18 ton. has rocking beam suspension and used to manage 25 mph on a good day. It is a special vehicle and needs no mot. Our slighty newer crane has road springs and will manage 60mph on a really good day. not sure what it is registered has but has never seen an mot station. shouldent worry too much about you crane.
  5. no thoughts of registration yet. bit short of cash at the mo. lights and wireing next, tyres and hub seals. bit of wood on the rear, horn and mirrors then go for a spin. (fingers crossed)
  6. how much more work to do before we hear the popping and farting of a meadows petrol engine thundering down the road at 39 mph with smoke pouring out the back cos the exhaust has set the rear body on fire:cool2: (it happened to my friend on the way to a steam rally)
  7. My mate has the oil pump in his workshop ans is machining a female taper in a lump of metal to fit on the pump shaft. i had a go myself but the old wilson lathe is a bit huge for such a tiny job. Anyway got 4" of snow up here at the mo and its blowing a hooley and minus 3 so sat in the lounge with the laptop and a log burner seems more fun:-D
  8. That bonnet is looking good:-D Nice shade of yellow..... Looking forward to see the rest of the truck in that nice bright colour. bet you can't wait to cover all that drab old green primer
  9. Mine doesn't leak from the winch drum but it gushes out where the drive shaft enters the bottom of the box:-( i will have to have some of the stern gland packing off the shelf at work and re pack it:cool2: but for the mo it stops the main winch dog clutch linkage siezing up. Not sure the winch brake is up to much with its covering of oil though:red:
  10. Many thanks mike:-) historic vehicle it will be and a drafty tent to pass out in at the field
  11. Er hello. Little confused reading all this and i know my scammell is 1950. As it is currently un registered what should i register it as for a easy tax and mot exempt life. I don't plan to do any towing just local shows and i'll take my tent. Although it might be handy to be able to tow my mate home in his buss if he has a problem but this is not of great importance.
  12. So you will be busy with the green paint soon then will you:-) Have you sorted the leaky rear hub seal yet i was hoping for lots of useful information and pictures so i can have a go at mine:red:
  13. Careful there..... looks like someone has hooked a roller skate on to the back of your Scammell:-D
  14. me thinks you need to find a set of tracks for the rear wheels next:cool2:
  15. Thanks:thumbsup: i had a look for an electric pump but was unable to find one that would run constantly. most seemed to be oil transfer pumps. Still worth a look. cheers. I am curently in the process of bodging up a pully bearing shaft and coupling arrangement to drive the oil pump off the fan belt. Then we should have plenty of oil circulation.
  16. So what does it go like with a turbo? must pull quite well.
  17. HI Ian. please post us some pictures of said Militant Recovery truck as i really can't get enough of them. REALLY fancy one off them myself but can't justify having two rusting hulks on the drive. feel free to tell us all about it. just mind your fingers when stowing the outriggers:shocked:
  18. no need to post it but if you could give me the part number of the metal bellows in the pressure reducing valve or post the page on here it would help:)
  19. Just looked at the parts book and its for a later explorer with a two tank system. Mine is an early one with three tanks and the front couplings that can be switched over to run trailer brakes. so no part numbers at the mo. i will try to take a picture of said valve when the weather improves.
  20. Took the landy out to collect some stuff and things with the big trailer and went through some very pretty scenery. plenty of snow on snowdon:) www.youtube.com/user/rbrtcrowther#p/a/u/0/ZYSChwCKk9g
  21. Don't panic it's not the unload valve bellows that has split this works perfect (well it did before all this cold weather) the valve that has failed is the pressure reducing valve mounted on the end of the tractor service tank. My explorer is an early one with a three tank setup, main, tractor and trailer. The pressure reducing valve drops the air pressure to about 85pis in the trailer and tractor tanks while the main tank runs about 115psi (from memory) I can look for a part number in the book when i have access to it, Cheers.
  22. Yep the pump self primes. The 600 rpm it the minimum speed the pump works at. They also handel very viscous oils well. the main problem it the rear bearing running dry of oil. I think the worm and wheel would be ok with normal road work but if the oil gets too hot and the scammell is then reduced to very low speeds Eg. goes off road or climing a large hill in low gear the hot oil runs off the crown wheel before it reaches the top and the worm:( not very good.
  23. The small stainless steel bellows in the pressure reducer on my explorer split last year and i am pretty sure it was due to ice. Anyone know where i can get a new one. Air was leeking out of the breather on this valve so i have sealed it off as the valve no longer works. however it means the truck now runs full air pressure on the braking system, It does stop well though but i will have to see what its like on a road run as it may suffer with brake surge plus the air pressure will vary as the govener cuts in and out.
