  1. don't take the pin out remove the U bolts holding the leaf spring to the lump of steel then jack up the front and remove the crossmember with the pivot still in
  2. No you can't get it out without removing the cross member. Really handy that cos it's holding to front of the truck up. So have fun jacking between the axle and chassis members. It's just another utterly rubbish piece of Scammell engineering but hey ho all part of the joy of Scammell ownership. I was able to jack up under the huge ground anchor that has been welded to the front of mine. The only problem was when they put 400 welding rods into the front end it distorted slightly and i had to use lhe land rover to yank the two crossmembers out.
  3. Nice....looking really good and sounding very economical:D Looks lke you had some good fun there.
  4. Meadows made the 6 DC 630 for a good few years. when When the army wanted petrol power scammell worked with meadows to convert the 6 DC to a 6 PC Which as far as i can tell from looking at the two Manuals involved only the top end. The crankshaft and pistons are the same as i now have a crank from a petrol in my diesel. Even the valve timing is the same for the petrol and diesel. Most of the extra cooling was for the exhaust manifold to reduce under bonnet temperature and to heat the inlet. Pretty sure the pistons are the same but the heads have a resess to lower the compression and the inlte and exhaust valves are on oposit sides.
  5. Never reveal any of your workshop tips or trade secrets. That way when people mess it up you can charge lots of ££££ fixing their mistakes using your own tips:coffee:
  6. I had the flamingo tyres on my landy for about 4 years and was impressed with them. The only downside is the fact it feels like your front wheels are about to fall off with the viberation on the road, and i dont mean wheel balance it's the tread hammering on the road. I did'nt notice how bad it was i suppose you get used to it but when i fitted the bigger fatter insa turbos (which are even more knobbly) i was staggered how much quieter and more relaxed the whole thing felt. Must be something to do with the tread spacing or something. My mate runs on road tyres which is the way to go if your not off roading, i'ts so smooth and quiet even for a series 3:shocked:
  7. I have decided to fit them on the bottom angle iron of the rear body. Not too high but out of the harms way. One at the back one at the front of the body should be fine.
  8. What are you going to do in the way of an oil cooler ? Is there any way of hooking up to the Scammell one of is the a heat exchanger on the engine block?
  9. You going to bolt that fan bracket on or employ someone to hold it there while you drive? Just thinking it will be hard to keep the thing in line what with the fan trying to pull itself through the radiator? I'm really bored at the mo so will just poke fun at you for a bit to entertain myself:evil:
  10. What you doing with the turbo all the way up there? It'll be sticking out the bonnet:laugh:
  11. Yep a spade, a highlift jack with a piece of plywood under it probrobly would have done the job but someone would have had to break a sweat:-)
  12. Right i'll get some bought Cos knowing my luck some boy racer will end up in the side of it:(
  13. Cheers :thumbsup:I'll get a quote off them just out of interest
  14. Who do you insure with? mine was for unlimited milage fully comp valued at £8000. I am ONLY 33 years old with 3 points on my licence. It seems with insurance there will always be someone with the same vehicle who is paying a fraction of what your paying. I also pay £170 for the landy series 3 with 2.8 turbo, big wheels and plenty of other mods all declared to footman James. My mate pay £90 for his standard series one (which i would like to cut up and and fit a v8 in)
  15. David Walker from the scammell register has been and inspected last month as the scammell register are on the DVLA's list of clubs so hopefully all we need is the bit of paper from the Scammell records. if not they said they would give me the number of a man with some military records. I got a message asking if i wanted age related or the Q plate so the dvla must have found it on their records. It's fingers crossed at the mo. I was all set to go to see the dvla but going through the club ment much less paper work and the someone from the club can come to inspect for nothing plus i was hopeing they will find the info on the build:)
  16. Still waiting for the Scammell register to get back with some news of my registration but i geuss they are looking for the build details to get an age related plate. I did phone Footman James for an insurance quote and they said £140 fully comp which i thougt was ok looking out the window at the 12 tons of it sitting there. Not quite sure why they wanted to know what size engine was in it:nut: Its not like its a hot rod:cheesy:
  17. Do i need to fit those yellow side marker reflectors on my Scammell? They were fitted at some point in the past as there were remains of them when i stripped it. not sure it had them when new.
  18. Gone and done it again:red: sorry here it isSomething went wrong...
  19. Don't know if any of you have seen this but i think i want one:shocked:
  20. One will turn up when you least expect it. At least you have another engine for now. you slipped that 680 in a bit smartish. Wot no pictures?:-)
  21. How bad is it got any pics it might be rerairable? what a bummer i feel for you:cry: but i also feel you need a virtual spanking for not checking in the coldest winter since scammelling began:banghead:
