  1. What a a great montage and synopsis of your travels. Some pictures bring back memories of my trip over a few years ago. Thank you for the memories.
  2. I have watched the video several times, you have that gear box mastered. That C6 is sounding good but I do not think the fuel pump is quite right. I do not remember so much black smoke when pulling hard 900 to 1000 is their torque band, it was just a faint haze. It also seems inconsistent through the rev range, the black changes shades. Have you compaired it with another one? It would seem the air inlet side is good as there is very little smoke a high revs. You have to get them right or they give piston trouble. Have you another fuel pump to try on it? This is just my opinion looking on. You do fantastic work.
  3. Hi AFV, I think the drag links are to short for a QL. But that could be fuzzy memory. They are still there.
  4. Gold for historians, also interested parties.
  5. If you want to block chassis it is easiest to put a block between the axle and chassis than have to get a large quantity of timber, unless you have access to chassis stands. Independent suspension vehicles need a different approach. Any vehicle that is laid up inside or outside in these days of intense sunlight it is advisable to substantially reduce the tyre pressure.
  6. I have a friend who's late father in law was ex RAF and a caterpillar club member, and ex PoW. and he was the same. Reminiscences happened almost by accident.
  7. What a shame he is not here to weadle a first hand account of his exploits out of.
  8. Check anti freeze or drain. put on axle stands to preserve tyres. Store in a dry place and cover, remove or disconnect battery. Drain fuel tank.
  9. Not everyone on this forum owns a military vehicle but have an input. Not forgetting the wavey navy either. Its people that fight wars, using whatever is at hand or what they are good at, or just plain there.
  10. This kind of material is Historical Gold. Thanks for posting.
  11. Operators licencing superseded the old system, bringing in truck MOTs. I can still remember my number OA/75168. They use a different number system now.
  12. A picture on Facebook of a 6x4 Albion tipper, under a tree in East Sussex. Spotted by a man out for a walk. I last saw one in the 1970s.
  13. Picture is on BRS, NFC Facebook site I think you are right with a Comet.
  14. I was looking at a Scammell and solid tyred trailer being unloaded at a ship, I realised it was a tank being lifted, on closer inspection the reg number is 19 ZR 19. I wonder if anyone has any information on it.
  15. I just split them up roughly, ones that looked the same or ones that were bent. They are back in the box unless someone wants them.
  16. I suppose thinking about the ME262, it was designed in the face of adversity. There facilities were being destroyed on a daily basis and there engineers managed to design a world beating aircraft. It may have been unreliable, underfunded, and did not have access to the necessary exotic materials also using slave labour to produce examples, but the fact remains it was produced and shot down the best aircraft the allies had. I have admiration for their ingenuity but distain for what they were fighting for.
  17. I saw them flying together, but have to confess I was there to see the spit's and P 51 and the old lady, along with the hurrybus. As far as I know there were no ME 262 combats over the U.K. during WW2. I would imagine it would be the usual suspects Eric (winkle) Brown, Alex Henshaw, Jeffrey Quill or Mutt Summers, at the controls after they had been shipped over after the cessation of hostility's.
  18. That was as close as I could get. There seemed to be a lot of people possibly TV or press around them. It seemed strange to see the adversary's parked together. P 51 a battle winner I read Bill Goodson's book Tumult in the sky I think that was it's title, many years ago. I bet your father in law could tell some tales of daring do.
  19. You will find it when you are not looking for it.
  20. I have managed to get an adblocker to stop those annoying ads.
  21. Great work as always especially in this heat. That is a teaser ; other vehicles waiting in the que;
  22. We have been across today. What a great little museum, well worth a visit. Just need a bigger coffee machine. We just got to the Thornycroft when it started raining. A lot of time has been spent getting a covering of paint on it. Keep up the good work.
  23. So I wonder where it is now.
