  1. So we have a 30 year plus designed Ajax and a 50 year plus MBT. For a modern army. With new bits stuck on the top. Not my definition of new.
  2. I see yesterday Ben Wallace is talking about new build Challenger 3 tanks. I wonder where these will be built as we do not have a dedicated tank production facility any more.
  3. Do you believe in the tooth fairy?
  4. I presume you have checked suction lines especially any rubber ones for delamination. I am going back a long way but a Ford Thames with a 4D would pull for fun up to half throttle then die away, It was traced to a piece of straw in the fuel line after hours of work. You do have a busy couple of years planned Good Luck, I got pulled up the other day for asking for welding rods, they are electrodes the man behind the counter said. He was at least as old as me. Good fun. I have not been to a one before but I am going to a Military band concert with a friend in Dunfermlin today so about a 4 hour trip each way.
  5. Great to hear from you, I really needed a big restoration fix. As usual your welds are very consistent and clean. Have you checked the Fuel flow through the return from the top of the fuel filters, I seem to remember a relief valve in the filter block.
  6. Hello, I hope all is well with you. How is the restoration of the Rogers going? Will we be seeing the combination out and about this year?
  7. It is the lead in time for these tanks, learning how to operate them from servicing through to operations. But it is a major escalation with no UN involvement or diplomatic moves apparent. Putins rhetoric is very reminiscent of another dictator back in history calling for new super weapons to help win a war of aggression that he instigated.
  8. That is what I could not remember. I would love to go but I will just have to look at the pictures. These were the early days of heavy haulage development, I would love to see the AEC 8x8.
  9. I am sure I read at some time Rolls Royce came up with another type of cast iron for the manifolds. I cannot remember where I read it though. I think they were overheating because of the time the engines spent on full power. Working at night I have had the manifolds glowing a dull orange many times on the old Vickers. If the TS24's went by with there's glowing they usually wanted the air filters cleaning or changing. They had dry filters and the Vickers was oil bath.
  10. I think there is a crew bus at Carlisle Airport.
  11. It would be good if someone goes to the museum at Alice Springs or lives near, (I have an idea that will raise a laugh down under) to have a look at the preserved one living there. A photograph would give a clue for identification.
  12. I would imagine all of the Rotinoff records are held with the Atkinson ones at Leyland.
  13. All I can find on the Rotinoff Viscount heavy haulage tractor is it was powered by a Rolls Royce C6SFL rated at 250 bhp, mated to a 6 speed o/d gearbox into a 3 speed reduction box possibly from a Sherman. Rear bogie by Kirkstall With Hypoid diff's and hub reductions. Giving an axle reduction ratio of 10.18:1 running on 1100x20 tyres. I think the Antar's were worm drive axles.
  14. There is supposed to be on the Transit, It does not work just wastes fuel. I have taken them off with a wedge of sooty tar at the front that would not shift with a soaking and pressure wash. You can see when it is over fuelling to do the burn off as the particulate filter chokes up you can see a small puff of black smoke. When I have removed the ceramic internal in the past the result is better fuel consumption and acceleration. Wolf engines stayed mechanical because of the possibility interference on the battlefield I think. Now everything is just about electronic.
  15. I think the next three are Mack's with double skinned roofs, one towing a two axle trailer.
  16. If the seals are missing has someone been messing with the settings? If it has been black smoking a lot the cat's can clog up and restrict gas flow you can get a cat clean done. Unfortunately until you know if the fuel pump is set correctly it will be like fishing in the dark. Have any of the hoses delaminated internally? This may not show up until the rev's are high. Diesel engines do not have Catalytic convertors. This is a Ford evolution engine. Early engines had alignment problems with the timing belt, an upgrade kit should have been fitted to yours. As fitted the EGR system is problematic, and is very often by passed/ removed.
  17. Politics comes before any military action in a Liberal democracy. Military action is supposed at the behest of a democratically elected government. Or have I lost the plot.
  18. Can you check the manifold boost pressure through the rev range. Is it fitted with a DPF filter? Are the fuel pump seals intact?
  19. I think the Military Vehicle Trust do that sort of thing.
  20. At least there is a valid reason.
  21. Probably like looking after an elderly cantankerous relative. Good days and bad then you do not know what is going on when it is out of sight.
  22. They come and go, but the Dorset Steam fair goes on. Go to the ones you can trust and make them better.
  23. They will be looking to get the 2 Challenger 1's in private ownership back next. Then look out for them starting those Chieftains in Lincolnshire.
