  1. Tim ok, but don't get me wrong I'm not one of those Ferret people, I'm a Pig man!
  2. Tim there is some coverage on here: http://www.hmvf.co.uk/pdf/IGNITIONMATTERS.pdf
  3. Richard, yes Series III surprised me when I first saw it. Unfortunately I don't have the Spec for FV16013 but I do have this one: Interesting historical point is that the Ministry of Supply has been blotted out. It is commonly supposed that the MOS was abolished following the 1963 White Paper "The Central Organisation for Defence" which lead to the formation of the MOD. In fact the MOS was abolished in October 1959. The folder for this document was printed in June 1959 & includes the MOS. But the final Specification was issued in August 1960 hence the deletion of the MOS on the front.
  4. On another thread I posted the troubles I had with an ebay seller who would not help or communicate at all. But here is a quite different experience. I had an occassional misfire on the starter motor on my Wolf. As this is due to go on sale soon, I didn't want the hassle for me or the new owner selling something with an unreliable component. I attempted to repair the solenoid myself but was unable to assemble the crimped edges of the solenoid case in a fully reliable way. So I bought a remanufactured 24v starter motor from a firm on ebay. It was delivered promptly and worked fine, but on two occasions the solenoid stayed on & the motor still ran. This was rather annoying as I now had the hassle of returning it & being immobilised for longer. I rang the company who were most apologetic and arranged for a replacement to be sent immediately. Once I had fitted it & was happy with it I was to return the defective one with my old starter motor at his expense. This I did. The new motor is working fine & today I received my old starter motor that now had a new solenoid, brushes & bearings. All of this at no cost. It was a gesture of goodwill for my inconvenience. I found that the level of after sales service went far beyond what one might expect these days, especially perhaps with ebay. So I have every confidence in dealing with & recommending Ray at Phoenix Marine Electrics. http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/The-F-Parts-Place__W0QQ_armrsZ1
  5. Jim, I've scanned this at 720dpi, then used some fill flash & then brightened it all. Hope this gives a bit more detail.
  6. Joris, there ought to be two terminals on your dynamo D & F. D is the main output & F is the field winding & it is this that must be supplied with a voltage to create a magnetic field. By controlling the current in the field winding you can regulate the output voltage from D. So there must be the voltage applied to F & of course the other connection is through the earth. I am not familiar with wartime vehicles I assume the earth does provide a connection, sometimes it did not. If there are only two terminals on the dynamo then it has an earth return. I would apply a voltmeter between F & earth & check for voltage with the ignition on. Easier to see is a test prod ie like a spikey screwdriver with a bulb inside & a cable with a clip. See what you get.
  7. You need to establish first that there is a voltage going to the field winding. If it isn't getting there then you have a problem in the wiring to the regulator, in the regulator or its supply. If it is getting there then check you have continuity in the field winding & its connections. If that's all ok then move on to the rest of the circuitary.
  8. Joris. I would first establish that the battery is capable of accepting a charge in its own right, by just charging it from a mains charger. When you do this, disconnect the vehicle leads from the battery in case there is some drain despite the circuits being turned off. If there was a "massive short circuit somewhere" the ammeter would show a discharge without anything else being turned on. Although a lower drainage of power may not be sufficient to show a discharge on the ammeter, but could be draining the power from your battery slowly & contiuously.
  9. I believe they originated from Clive Evans Ordnance, Sturminster Marshall circa 1987. He "re-baralleled" a few though. I remember looking in some of the Red Crescent first aid boxes to find empty Arabic Coke cans, so it looked as if the were marked up genuinely. The word at the time, was that they had come from Yemen.
  10. Yes I was encouraged. I wondered if there was an air transport problem, but it only had to come down from Droitwich. As a result of the complaint, I got my only message from seller, who said it is held up in the Netherlands. But on the advert it said 10 in stock & 3 sold so that wasn't true. All he had to do was tell me or at least respond to my emails. The annoying thing was that it was a present for my wife's horsebox, as it is our wedding anniversary. A date I try not to forget & curiously is also Hiltler's birthday :shake:
  11. Within 37 minutes of opening an Ebay complaint I received a full refund via Paypal. Pleasantly surprised:D
  12. Might well be. The weights & all dimensions are the same. One curiosity I've noticed that on Rover 10 the LHD version is 1/2 in wider than the RHD vesrsion.
  13. Off hand I can't tell you the difference apart from the different Asset Codes. I'm looking in Equipment Regulations for 1963, 1964 & 1967, they've got Rover 8 & 8/2. But no 8/1 but I suspect they were upgraded to 8/2. Although I note there is Rover 9 & 9/1 but no 9/2. Anyway I mustn't go digging up the documents that could take an hour or so, must get out into that sunshine!
  14. Wayne. Looking in the Rover 8 UHB under Associated Publications, no CES is listed. But there was a later CES covering 1/4 Ton Rovers including Rover 8/2. http://www.hmvf.co.uk/pdf/AC33623.pdf
  15. I bought another for a different vehicle a week ago. Just watch out. It went through Paypal ok, but I had no acknowledgement from the seller, it has still not arrived & my messages don't get answered. I made an offer of £60 that was accepted, which slightly surprised me. Perhaps that was a warning sign. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Reversing-Camera-Bumper-mounted-Kit-with-Colour-Screen_W0QQitemZ270555921643QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3efe63bceb

    Tabby.

Paul, I had a Tabby Type K in the 1950s & the piles were dead then. I cut the monocular open with a hacksaw & none of the 3 piles had any life. I experimented by getting some of the discs & soaking them in various chemicals in a very non-scientific schoolboy way & then dried them in the oven. But could detect not the slightest voltage from groups of them piled in series. My recollection of each disc was metal foil coated with carbon one side. I remember the first Zamboni, I investigated, as I opened it the spring pushing them tightly together, propelled the discs into the air showering me with hundreds of these discs. 20 years ago I bought another Type K but not attacked that with a hacksaw.
  18. Wasn't working this morning. I think virtually every day there is a down time. I don't often see much to interest me, but there is sometimes a bit of Humbering. Rick I suppose you go on for the Champs?
  19. Alec, the first one is the Wheeled Vehicle Contract No. The second one is the Asset Code which is an ordnance supply accounting code eg 1040 0762 Ambulance, 2/4 Stretcher, 4x4, Rover 9 1040 0766 Ambulance, 2/4 Stretcher, 4x4, Rover 11 1040 0778 Ambulance, 2/4 Stretcher, 4x4, Rover Series 3 The third is the Complete Equipment Schedule which is here: http://www.hmvf.co.uk/pdf/AC33572.pdf
  20. Yes this evening I've seen several members of here, on there.
  21. Most days I find there is some period during the day when it is down, been like this for several months.
  22. Alec just so there is no confusion, the diagram I have posted is for a British 12v +ve earth Ambulance, 2/4 Stretcher, Rover 11. In fact it is exactly the same circuitarty used in the Rover 9 Ambulance.
  23. No it wasn't a very big bonfire, Mike that's very helpful. Apart from the RAF & REME I didn't know what was what. I didn't expect them to be particularly valuable but just didn't how pricing worked. I think I'll take them to the Dallas Digout on 25 April & sell them as one lot. Many thanks.
