  1. Um well nearly, but actually nope. This is really bringing the old MO spotters out
  2. Nope looks plausible but this is land based.
  3. Sorry got me there, I don't know what they were all about, but probably not.
  4. Tony no, although I suspect it would been more successful than the opener I took with me to W&P. It refused to open tins & when I squeezed really hard the handle broke.
  5. Not a signal lamp Andy & yes it is complicated & I have the instructions in front of me!
  6. Yes Ken I think you have! Although I can see the ingenuity of thought there, particularly as in the past many of the objects have had indeed had um that sort of role.
  7. I agree I think you will have to take head off & do some gentle tapping with wood. Unfortunately you can't remove the sump until you remove the engine. That requires quite some lifting or removal of the barricade ram & the radiator with all its armour & extract the engine forwards. Don't worry too much about that, it is the crankcase breather that takes fumes to the carb to be burnt.
  8. So those who haven't played this game before. There is no prize, it is for entertainment to see the humour & ingenuity so often displayed by the participants. If I don't come back with an immediate response it doesn't necessarily mean I have gone silent because the questioner is getting too near the answer as I may be only popping in & out whilst doing other things. All of these items have a military connotation or application. Clues to start off, it is pre-war & British.
  9. Andy yes it is Saladin, FV157944/62 I think Marcus Glenn had some at W&P
  10. Yes that was after the prize giving. We made our way to the French cafe display just to have sit down. After a few minutes a French lady presented us with glasses of red wine, whilst she sat at another table having tea with her friends. Rather nice surprise.
  11. Yes you would find it interesting Wayne, covers your Rover 8 It's been interesting to see what particular items people get turned on by. Most purchases people have posted up don't do a great deal for me, but each to his own. No doubt my books don't do a lot for others. But I find it fascinating to know that in 1909 for every 1,000 diets of medical comforts in active service it included: Brandy - 10 bottles Champagne - 10 pints (yes pints not bottles) Port wine - 15 bottles Stout (1/2 pint) - 96 bottles Pea soup - 3lb Perhaps more relevant is the 1915 Handbook of Specifications for Supplies quoting 40/War Office/1837 gives all the constructional & painting details for 2-gallon petrol cans & they ain't meant to be green :wow:
  12. Or maybe move re-enactors lock, stock & barrel to Medway? There they will have plenty of room to spread out with some separation between their dioramas. At present there is this overcrowded arrangement where one moment you are viewing a WW1 trench to then step into the Middle East some 70 years or so later & then a few steps on thrust into WW2. With some chronological allocation of space, one could stroll along feeling a sense of continuity observing man's inhumanity to man in all its various forms as time has progressed (& even come to the conclusion that despite clever machines & fancy uniforms we've haven't really learnt any lessons at all).
  13. The prize winner of the Dale Prior Memorial Award - Best Humber 1-Ton for Originality & Servicing
  14. I used to be opposed to German re-enacting, largely because I thought it may cause offence to veterans. But I had to reconsider that on the basis that many of them are themselves veterans of the British armed forces, albeit of more recent years. They have risked their lives for Queen & Country, something that I have not had to do, so perhaps I was not in a position to be critical of it. I think the worry for many people is the anxiety that maybe, just maybe, in some dark corners there maybe elements who admire the political aspirations that these forces represented. That is the real concern I think & something that is exploited by the media. Sadly local newspapers reporting on a military vehicle show will prefer to promote this anxiety by photoing the Germans in preference to other displays or even vehicles.
  15. Some nice finds for me. Although my vehicular interests are British & postwar, I have a special interest in British Army matters that are pre-war, by that I mean pre-WW1, more or less anything other than guns & uniforms. So quite pleased to get these.
  16. Was just a vague suggestion to try get the caravans away from the epicentre of the show, I was suggesting for those who have caravans that are inseperable from their MV. I agree if caravans could go further out of sight so much the better, that seems to work ok at GDSF where caravans go to a dedicated campsite. This seems to be accepted as perfectly logical as caravans are not part of what is on show & the public are paying to see.
  17. Come holiday time I am an avid caravanner myself & know only too well the agreeable accommodation that they can provide. If I want to take my caravan to say the Great Dorset Steam Fair I am allowed to do this, but the caravan quite reasonably has to go to the camp site. You may camp in your vehicle or with it provided you use military tentage up to certain limits in size & exuberance. I think there is a case for say Big Monkton, which includes a significant Living history content, to be similarly restricted. Those with MVs who quite reasonably what to enjoy the facilities of their caravan should perhaps be encouraged into Medway Overflow where there is sufficient space for the caravans to be set back somewhat from the displayed vehicle. Their caravan would be nearby & they can keep an eye on their MV whilst visitors would be able photo their exhibits without the visual intrusion off the white accommodation.
  18. I think I added all the classes together (including bicycles) & the MVs only came to 2,600 so the rest must be caravans, camper vans, quad bikes & kiddies off-road bikes then?
