  1. It’s my understanding the bike was demobbed in 1946 and Road registered later that same year. I have taken a look over the bike and there are traces of KG3 this was apparent when I rubbed back the paint to reveal the frame number. The inner chain case is definitely lighter than the photo portrayals but there is a darker ‘olive drab’ finish over the KG3 in some places I have checked. Maybe a later service paint job? If only the bike could talk 🤔
  2. So I understand the Velo MDD had a Miller rear ‘pork pie’ tail light fitted. I have several parts to crate a nice one, however, how many connections should the light have at the back, 1 or 2? 🤔
  3. No problem at all Lex! My eyes are always pealed 👍
  4. Thanks Ron! Work on the bike has already started in the hope of commissioning it back to running health, during the festive period!
  5. Hi All. So after the completion of my Matchless G3 panel tank restoration earlier in the year I said to myself ‘no more projects’. Having always wanted to get my hands a rare WD Velocette, when the opportunity of an original, mostly untouched MDD came up, I could not resist, here it is! Currently the bike sports a civilian livery and a few civilian modifications but in the main many of the parts are still original. Under the thick black paint most components bare the original WD finish, including the fuel tank, which I am itching to rub down to see if any numbers or insignias exist.
  6. Since completing this restoration I have spend most days looking for the correct decompression lever and air maze filter. The bike is so orginal I felt these last few details would finish of a nice project. With an airmaze filter purchased some months ago I finally found the decompression lever (well most of one) A Christmas miracle!
  7. Ron, I’m planning on Shepton too! I hope to bump into you 😉
  8. Ron, I’m planning on Shepton too! I hope to bump into you 😉
  9. Thank you for your kind comments and your help!! Yes the rebuild plate was a tricky decision to keep it, but everything else is 1940 😉
  10. Hi Ron. Thank you! No not fired it up yet, to scared to get it dirty 🙈 it would be a shame not to try though…. Yes it’s looking like the C10 is next in line, I have a newly purchased WD/C which needs ‘work’ but I vowed not to do a complete restoration on it just yet….
  11. So with the bike now competed! I wanted to take the time to send out a massive thank you to all participants in this thread, especially Ron and Lex. Without the fountain on knowledge supplied to me during the build, the bike would still be in hundreds of bits! It’s taken just over a year and many late nights and early mornings to complete but I am super pleased with the end result. I have a few project left in the pipeline so watch this space!
  12. Getting there now Ron! Looking good.
  13. The The photo of the second badge is mine, I am 99.9% sure I removed the badge from an original flea saddle which I later let go with a previous project. The rivets are a little bigger as I replaced them 😉
  14. No problem! Totally agreed, nothing typical about Matchless!
  15. Hi Lex, clock blanking plate taken care of 😉I have also attached some images of both the early and later type Mansfield saddle badge…..
  16. Thank you! I bet you can’t wait to get stuck in!
  17. Ron that’s great news! I measured the position of my rear numberplate, it sits approximately 55mm from the base of my mudguard….(the rear guard on my bike is repro) .If you need anything else, give me a shout. Keep us updated on progress!
  18. Morning Ron. I pulled out the old rear mudguard this morning, unfortunately it appears someone has already taken the end section of it, I am sorry. Il get the measurements of the number plate location.
  19. Thanks Gents. Yes Lex, the Mansfield saddle/badge is orginal so I shall take some more detailed photos, no problem! Ron my rear guard is repro but I took the measurements from my orginal guard which I still have. I will measure it up and let you know 👍
  20. Just a few last finishing touches but really close now!!
  21. Nice Lex! I just went for the bling of the Lodge plug…..😆
