  1. Finally got the rear wheel rebuild and fitted along with the remainder of the rear mudguard.
  2. Thanks Ron. Yes, it’s good to get the exhaust and silencer ‘off the shelf’ it’s fits rather nicely I must say. once I have fettle with it and sprayed it up I guess I need to turn back to those blasted wheels! I finally managed to find so suitable foot pegs too, just need to make the spacers now.
  3. I found myself with a few hours to spare so I managed to get a further along with the bike. My new exhaust and silencer have now also arrived from Armours so I am doing a test fit before spraying. Looks as if the silencer hanger needs welding on, once I have the exhaust system on the bike…..
  4. Enjoy Ron! Hopefully when your back I should have these bearings sorted 😉
  5. Thanks Gents. A bigger hammer it is. Both bearings are packed in so tight it’s pinching the spindle which is hardly turning. It looks as if the rear wheel bearings are easier to replace, I can see there is a screwed retainer / adjuster plate to remove first, I am guessing a special tool is required.
  6. So the front bearings look taper type in the front wheel but they still will not budge 🤕
  7. Thanks Ron. Another inspection tonight I think. all dust seals are off, I have a suspicion the bearings have been replaced with ball race alternatives……watch this space.
  8. Thanks Ron. I have tried and tried the bearing will not pop out….I would have thought it would of come out fairly easily…..maybe a bigger hammer. 😉
  9. A little more progress over the long weekend. I replaced the Miller light switch as I had a crack in my original, the headlamp is now complete and Dynamo in. unfortunately before the wheels can go back on both the front and back bearings need attention/replacing. The rear bearings came out without to much hassle, however, for the life of me I cannot get the front bearings or spindle out. Has anyone any experience with this?
  10. Totally agreed Ron! I assume the battery/battery box sits directly on the carrier with nothing between them? Steve
  11. Most rear end components now in place and fitting well. I have a sneaking suspicion my battery straps straps are too long!
  12. So with a little bit of downtime to tend to non military motorcycle projects I finally picked up the spanner’s and started work on the Velo again. More orginal paint exposed on the wheels. Most of the backend has been rebuilt, stripped and primed. It’s now starting to go back together rather nicely too!
  13. What a production line you have there, Lex. I too found a NOS headlamp for my ML, it’s amazing what turns up. I have a few small engine bits left if you need anything 👍 Keep us updated on the builds.
  14. I was just thinking the same Ron, your colour appears very similar indeed. Now that I have done a ‘dry’ fit with most of the newly fabricated parts I have stripped all the bits back off ready for prepping and priming, the front wheel is now off too, ready for a new tyre. Although the bike will be fully restored in the fullness of time I want to get it to roadworthy status this season, so it may remain multi coloured for a short while. This will enable me to do some shake down miles and to ascertain if the engine or gearbox need addition work. It also gives me the opportunity to round up the last of the missing items.
  15. Ron, I managed to get a few hours on the Velo this afternoon finally fitted the anti wet sumping valve! This appears the original colour of mine…..found it on the underside of the petrol tank.
  16. Gents looking at my photos more closely I believe your right, it looks to be a MOV frame. As suggested, no built in cast bash plate on this frame so not a MAF frame…..
  17. Hi Ron. Yes it’s the RAF blue one! I got as close as I could with all the barriers ropes in place. From what I could see the engine number was definitely MDD prefix complete with acceptance stamp, I thought the frame number was MDD prefix too, now I look back at the photos I’m not so sure. It has a nice MAF tank and gearbox fitted….. It’s nice to hear the other Steve is restoring his MAC (WD) will it be returned to its military livery?
  18. Fantastic Ron! Thank you. I went away this weekend with some friends and popped to the National motorcycle museum. It was nice to see their MAC (WD)
  19. Ron. Your progress is fantastic! I am still tearing everything down at the moment and replacing incorrect parts. I have found to date it’s quite a simple bike to work on, very quirky too. I am intrigued Ron, which battery box will you be fitted?
  20. Looking good Ron! After looking at the parts list I could not see a spring for the rear stand, I assume they did not have one?
  21. Thanks Ron. After a few long days fettling and some help from some friends ,the back end of the bike is coming together rather nicely. with some minor adjustments needed to the rack and rear mudguard I have decided to reconstruct all of the various components, new and old, before I strip everything back down for some serious prep and paint……I wanted to make sure everything sits correctly first. Still plenty to do but some great steps forward.
  22. No rush Ron. Sunday would be absolutely perfect! Enjoy tomorrow!
  23. I don’t feel so special now 😞😂 Ron, when you have five minutes would you please confirm the thickness and width of the rear stand clip hairpin spring. I am going to need to make one, unfortunately…..
