  1. the Polish army is going to start digging, very VERY carefully  starting at the existing track side, the original siding opening, would seem to make sense. I guess it depends on how far back the train is from the main tracks. No point in removing half a kilometer of dirt just to get to the back of the train.
  2. hmmmm, starting to get the feeling that some posters really don't want this to be there. Chances are better than 50/50 that There's something down there, it's a much higher possibility than the Burma spitfires IMHO. Look a the brite side, the Burmese army shot and killed 2 guys who were digging illegally at the air-port, no one in Poland has so much as suffered a scratch, well except for that guy who fell in the Crypt but that was accident.
  3. as with any other media event, every "Expert" in the world will be coming out of the wood-work to throw in there 2 cents. I would need to see some evidence of the Nazi's even contemplating a chemical defense of Berlin before considering that there might actually be nerve gas down there. I'm sure the Polish army will be taking every precaution, or hope they will My money's still on Brummbars and maybe even a Ferdinand
  4. Has working for a state institute in Eastern Europe given Dr. Zietek access and experience to state of the art equipment and made him an authority on what a steel train buried under 40 feet of dirt would look like? I think not. One really good thing here is that it's only 40 feet down , so we should know fairly soon what's down there. My bet is it's a military train with battle damaged vehicles, supplies , ammo, and maybe some things of marginal value, like previously mentioned Ore's. Something that was overlooked and forgotten because it had little or no value to the Russians, who blew the entrance shut, then it sat there until the hastily built siding rotted and collapsed under it's won weight. In other words, something only the folks on this forum and WW2 historians would get excited about
  5. only 4 episodes left, hopefully we will see some progress on the Jagpanther before season end, something more than a flat pile of armor plates anyway.
  6. in other words, the high tension power lines just happen to be in perfect alignment with the Nazi gold train , another miracle The fact that they're clearing shrub now and trying to get the army in there before Winter sets in is good, waiting till Spring will just cost them more in keeping the area closed off and policed
  7. looks like they have a small forestry crew out there clearing trees and shrubs over the tunnel so the army can check for explosives. Seems a little odd, to have guys running around with tractors and chain-saws before they check for explosives, I don't think I would like to be on that crew
  8. it's been done, they raised a WW2 U-boat, abandoned by crew after depth charge attack from maritime patrol aircraft, because everyone was sure it was full of Nazi gold. Unfortunately for the investors , who put in millions, there was nothing there but rust. Sat outside in the elements for a long time, eventually sectioned (cut) into 3 or 4 pieces and turned into an amusement park of sorts. If you consider that the S-boat is costing KW 5 million pounds, Then thought of anyone spenindg the tens of millions of pounds to lift and restore this thing is hard to imagine.
  9. alright, now for some fun. Were there Brumbars in this area in January 1945? Why yes, yes there were AAMOF. 2 possibilitiesSturmpanzer-Abteilung 218 and 219. Lots of confusion here as these originally started out as Sturmpanzer-Kompanie z.b.V. 218 and Sturmpanzer-Kompanie z.b.V. 2/218 and were used together with Ferdinands in defensive action. The Ferdinands would take out advancing tanks while the Brunbars took out the infantry. They fought in Kursk, then the Warsaw uprising. Some elements transferred East to Fight in Italy or France Sturmpanzer-Abteilung 218 was ordered established by Guderian using Brumbars and were destined for Paris, but it never happened , and Stug 3's were used instead. What happened to the vehicles, all destroyed in action or cut off and stashed in a tunnel? Sturmpanzer-Abteilung 219 looks to be an even more probable candidate, from http://www.flamesofwar.com/default.aspx?tabid=112&art_id=1802&kb_cat_id=36 so 219 operated in this area, they had vehicles that were damaged or destroyed by malfunctioning ammunition which were probably not repairable by front line resources. Could very well have been loaded onto a train and sent back to a more rearward position with greater capabilities, then cut off. if you look at the area they operated in= Hungary, then transferred to Czechoslovakia, back to Hungary, and their final retreat and surrender at Zwettl where they had no tanks left with them. So what happened to their vehicles? The Story forms a triangle on the map, between their deployment, operations, and surrender. You've heard of the Bermuda Triangle, now we have the Brumbar triangle on Wroclaw Poland Wouldn't this be amazing if true though, the vehicles would be a perfect time capsule, you could identify not only regimental markings but possibly even commanders and crew.
  10. nice, assuming the image is authentic, looks like we really have an armored train carrying vehicles. Could that really be a Brumbar sitting down there? at any rate, authorities are confirming a multi-level complex with possibly multiple trains. At first thought , how could the nazi's have lost an entire train?" , but if you stop and think about it, by January of 1945 the Wermacht was in full blown retreat, with some army groups being completely routed by the advancing soviets. When your losing hundreds of kilometers of territory every day and thousands of men, a train is really nothing at that point.
  11. a Mk-V, interesting vehicle to say the least, Basically a Mk-III with US made GMC diesel. Used in North Africa, Malta, the kiwis in the Pacific, and by the Russians. which paint scheme/theater of war do you guys plan to represent?
  12. really looking forward to any news. Seems like all we' (the unwashed masses) have heard in the last 5 years is about the scout car , which is cool but........ Even some more recent Panther pic's would be good.
  13. good catch, they must not be in chronological order. That's too bad, it would make more sense if they followed the proper timeline. It's probably tied to production budgets though, and those will only go up if the viewership does as well .I hope the show has a good following well with KW sleeping in Herr Hitlers bed, it only stand to reason that he would need his toilet as well. How weird though, of all the places in the world that might have a toilet from Hitlers yacht, a body shop in podunk Pennsylvania?
  14. good show last night, anyone else watch it? $1000. for a broken toilet that Hitler might have shat in though? At least there was a bit of grinding and welding to fix the 20mm AA trigger, but no further mention of the Jagdpanther or Bergenpanzer 38t
  15. alrighty then, looks like the tunnel , or prior existence of a tunnel, is now confirmed. Hopefully we won't have to wit till next spring to see what's inside
  16. so far we have Thomas the Tank engine, his Evil cousin the armored Nazi gold train, and a whole slew of doubting Thomas's. I think it's real, and even if it isn't, if I wish hard enough a Tiger tank battalion will materialize under that hill.
  17. wow, it's in beautiful condition, no pitting, some original paint, it's gotta be worth at least 2 new tires. it looks like there's a few different styles for the front idler, and they need to be matched, so this could be a critical piece for somebody's restoration
  18. I'm really inclined to think there's something down there, even if it was an empty train that was pulled off into a siding, and then abandoned in a hasty retreat from the advancing soviet army. The siding then was blocked up and tunnel collapsed over time. I mean this image is a different ball game from the crap we saw earlier. This looks like professional equipment , and these guys had their own company specializing n underground exploration. Not you average weekend treasure hunters
  19. well said. I can just hear Bruce now fan of Show: do you guys really blow things up with vintage WW2 grenades Bruce: Oy,Don’t be a garden, we're jus Avin a bit of a Laff
  20. LOL, someone will soon take it all out into a field and use it for an authentic WW2 crap. any place we can post feedback on the show? I really like the show but would like to see something more in-depth than a fan-belt replacement :undecided:. Can you guys with FB accounts make some polite requests on his FB page? The other thing that struck me is how flip they are about launching rifle grenades at that van. They don't tell you how far way they are but they're not wearing any protective clothing , helmets, etc. Isn't there a possibility of a chunk of sheet-metal flying back and taking Hoos's head off?
  21. looks like there will be no excavation until Spring. Mixed bag for the poles, local merchants are raking in some much needed income but local authorities are spending sorely stretched municipal funds making sure no one gets killed by a train.
  22. Bergepanzer 38t? i guess there must be a lot of Hetzer parts lying around in the old workshop. I hope they spend more time in the future on the actual nuts and bolts , I mean the picking is fun but I need to see some welding torches, lathes, and mills going.
  23. backtracking? So no tiger Tank battalion ? oh well, we still have combat dealers this Wednesday night and a new JagdPanther being born. Gonna be one hell of a Stork to drop that baby off
  24. is it just me or does is it really starting to look like the Polish government is trying to concoct a story, and screw the 2 guys who actually found this thing out of their legally entitled 10% finders fee?
  25. What about the HL230 engine, are those being manufactured new now? I know some parts like Pistons and cylinders but blocks and heads? Also, most Jagdpanthers used the newer AK 7-400 transmission gearbox/final drive designed for the king tiger and Panther II, that must be a bear to find. is he doing all 3? I really wish he would update his site. According to last known info he was doing a D model and one of the A's.
