  1. A train full of HL210 engines, final drives, tracks and such would be great but yeah I didn't even consider that but can you imagine. A few hundred tons of mortar and artillery shells, all sweating Nitroglycerin! :red: It would go from being the most important find ever to the most dangerous in about half a second. That much going off at once could take the top of the mountain off.
  2. alright, finally saw S2-E4, good episode. Savored it in bits, like tea and crumpets could very well be, even the Germans themselves might have done it to keep it out of enemy hands. my brother was a Supervisor on Carpentry crew, anyone whom missed "crane-day" while putting up roof trusses was fired because the crane was so expensive to have on site. I expect the cost of this Jagdpanther will include a 20 ton gantry crane in one of the workshops, it's a must really. If you have to call one in every time you lift a plate the cost would be untenable. We still don't know where any of the panther parts came from, some of the metal crates look like they could have come from the Wheatcroft collection, but they're a different color than the ones on his web-site? I hope they talk more about where and how the parts got there.
  3. wow, never heard of either of those. Did they really ship captured T-34's all the way back to the Western front? It would make sense in that friendly-fire /fratricide incidents would be greatly reduced this way. I also never heard of them burying steel after the war, with the exception of individual vehicles in hard to recover areas. You would expect steel plates at a factory to be re-melted down? At any rate, even shot up range wreck would be a better starting point that random plates. For one, It doesn't appear that Axis Track services has the equipment or facility to handle such large pieces? They called in a crane to install the Hetzer cannon after all, and lifting a Tiger or Panther Turret would be more than that. It's too bad, I was really looking forward to a reveal in S2 episode 4, looks like they just put out out a tease.
  4. knocked out T-34's in the battle for Lorraine! I hope it's better than that ? You would thnik Quest would at least put 1 person on the editorial staff with a clue about history. AARRRGGHHHH , this is as bad as waiting for pics from the Nazi train in Poland. Tell us it's the Tiger, I mean Panthers are cool but the World really needs another running Tiger-A.
  5. Polish army is cordoning off the area, I really hope it's just a military train and not a train full of Gold teeth pulled from concentration camp murders. :-( NO Gold would be best, just a historical find please. Arkadiusz Grudzien, a spokesman for Walbrzych council’s legal office, said: “The train is of a military nature. There is no mention of valuables: just military equipment” The lawyer for the two men, Jaroslaw Chmielewski, said: "This is a find of world significance, on a par with [discovering] the Titanic" The Polish state treasure and culture ministry has been informed in case the find contains anything of value
  6. it was pretty amazing when they found the Bizmark, and then the Hood, and all the U-boats, even one in the Gulf Of Mexico. Of course every time they drag another tank or airplane out of a swamp or lake it's always really cool to see. This however could really be something special, a true time capsule like the world has never seen before short of King Tuts tomb. I hope the Poles don't muck it up, I hope they do everything possible to preserve it and make it into a museum.
  7. from WHO, Polish officials confirm a "significant find" :wow: https://www.warhistoryonline.com/war-articles/nazi-treasure-train-update.html
  8. so it looks like we're still 2 days away from season 2-episode 4, which means it's not too late to engage in some useless speculation Any guesses on where this Panther in episode 4 is coming from. Is Mr. Wheatcroft (who made an appearance on Season 1), giving up his 3rd machine, the unfinished Ausführung A ? Or is this a "previously unknown" machine that was recently drug out of a Russian swamp?
  9. I really like this show, so much I've watched most of the episodes twice. You can't help but like Bruce, much respect for him when he turned away the Red Fezz of the 13th Waffen SSHandschar division as being "too dark, not my thing". Tiger or Panther? or both?Episode 4 peeps is talking about some swap of 251's for a Panther project?
  10. both in S1 and I think in S2 the term "half million quid" is used in talking about the value of the real, war-time Hetzers , (as opposed to Swiss G13's). However to me that sounds unreasonably low, I would expect 3 to 4 times that much, or more. Any running war time panzer is in the millions.
  11. news just in, they found the Spitfires all boxed up and loaded on a train, all of buried in a rail tunnel . These guys, having hired a lawyer and filed a petition with the local government, have spent a good deal of money to perpetrate a hoax (if in fact that's what this is). I'm inclined to believe there's something there, even if it's not gold bars
  12. thanks for that, much better than You-tube. Episode 3 was interesting to say the least, did not expect to see the Tiger 1 parts that were for sale in Czech Rep. At the time of filming , they were not for sale, but were on Milweb a few months ago. Is it safe to assume "the twins" now have a new and monumental project on their hands? At any rate, the stuff popping up now is pretty amazing, those pak 40's lined up in Finland were quite the sight. I was surprised that guy let the Stuk 40 /L48 go for as low as it did. the really funny part about this show is how they make a pile of rusted parts, that eventually turn into a running motorbike, seem like something you do in a weeks time. I'm sure that actually seems plausible to a person who doesn't know which end of a screw-driver to grab.
  13. dam, by catch-up I guess they mean only the most recent stuff. Looks like S2-E1 is already no longer available.:embarrassed:
  14. WHY, do you do this to us? I liked S1, I think he's quite a character and his passion for collecting shows. I will teli S2 ASAP
  15. Saw this on War history Online, but it's all over the net. 2 guys claim to have found a Nazi train in a tunnel, Even if there isn't a single gold coin, a "time capsule" train from 1945 would be worth a fortune. Clothing, documents, personal weapons, the rail cars themselves, hell even a singe Panzer, would be worth millions. https://www.rt.com/news/312924-poland-nazi-gold-train/
  16. all the restored/running Sherm's I've are right at $300K, so the auction estimate of 150 to 200K pounds is normal
  17. I'm assuming this is a pretty rare vehicle, a nice addition to any Afrika Corp's or Operation Barbarossa (early stages)collection. http://vintagemilitaryvehicles.com/2014/11/styr-640/#more-2642
  18. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3179146/Gravestone-one-Nazi-Germany-s-famous-S-S-panzer-commanders-died-battle-Normandy-stolen-cemetery-France.html Wonder what makes them think it's "neo nazi fanatics" and not just drunk hoodlums? at nay rate, grave robbing is just disgusting
  19. Both stugs are in Shaddock now and listed as different vehicles. Interesting to see how long before the one in the German lake is pulled out. my guess is not long, the owner of the you-tube video is probably getting a lot of e-mail
  20. it looks like the one in the lake in Germany in many ways, including the misidentified "88mm cannon" in the news article but this one is in France? Oh well there's not much there to go on, Samur has better vehicles than that sitting outside under a sheet-metal roof. They will probably sell this one quickly
  21. Good call, I think your right, Stug 3 or 4 with Saukopf. This guys a relic hunter so very likely knows it's value. I imagine we'll be seeing the recovery on u-tube sooner or later at the end of this video you can see he's amassing quite the collection
  22. no really Guy claims it's a Pz-IV, but it's almost impossible to tell with all the snails/mollusks stuck to it. Can anyone ID this thing for sure?
  23. I'm sure no expense was spared, the restoration looked first class IMHO. I just meant the surviving scrap parts still had significant value, I'm sure someone was lucky to snag them at auction. this part still amazes me, although other people have also contacted German firms to have things like crankshafts, pistons, and tracks made. Here in the US you would be lucky to find an original company that was more than 10 years old that had a record of products more than 5 years old , but of course being Germany everything is still there and meticulously documented for the last 100 years the rarity is driving the prices to insanity, the shot to hell and rusted hulk that from Russia that sold for 200K and was restored for the king of Jordan even surprised people here. You would think though that with Allen's money and fame he could get a complete wreck from the Golan or even the Hungarian government. i'm sure as the internet broadcasts the value and selling prices more will pop up.
  24. amazing how much of the stuff on page 2 is NOS, engines , transmissons, etc. that are still in their original crates and wrapped in paper and Cosmoline. It's also interesting to see the pile of discarded Panther parts, although still retaining signification value. He must have spent a fortune just reproducing so many of the components. How original is the vehicle that went to Collings , 60%? I can see how grouping everything for the auction must have been close to impossible, 50 years of stuff piled endlessly with minimum labeling. It's great that it was sold to collectors though and not melted down. It will all eventually get sorted on milweb and such Anyone know whatever happened to the Panzer MkIV? Did Allen ever get it?
  25. so now the for the million dollar question, what happened or happens to the stuff now? If the main collection was donated, who owns the rest of the stuff still on the property?
