  1. That`s great news, am I right in thinking the Chivenor military wives were the original choir from Gareth Malone`s TV series?
  2. That would be a sight to see! There hasn`t been an LVT in North Devon for many many years...
  3. Looking good, you must be spending a lot of time on it.
  4. Fantastic! All being well I`ll find you a seat on the convoy.
  5. The Friends of the Assault Training Center have been clearing undergrowth from the "dummy" LCT`s in advance of the Devon D Day show here on June 6th, when we hope to re-create some photos taken at the time. Built in late 1943 by the American Troops training here in Devon there are three surviving LCT`s and some LCP`s, they were first uncovered around 15 years ago but have since become overgrown. One has an extension piece at the rear added by 146th Engineers, C Co, 1st Platoon when the longer MkVI boats were introduced. The sides were constructed scaffold tube type uprights with latrine screens or corrugated tin.
  6. The Avons are a good tyre, they certainly work well on a Land Rover. Our Tilly runs on a nobbly/road combo of whatever we could find, noise isn`t an issue with other rattles and it`s never gone fast enough to worry about handling. You may want to balance nobbly`s on the front axle.
  7. Dad and Roger set off for Poole this morning. Lucky blighters!
  8. Looks like you have a long way to travel, be good to see you here though. If there`s any way we can help please give us a shout. Tim
  9. Thanks Tim, those links are excellent. I`d not seen the Belgian gate photo before and I wander if we can identify the spot they were using for this excersize, the landscape has changed a little in 70 years as the sand dunes "roll" but a study of original ATC maps might help.
  10. No problem, what are the dimensions of these cases commander? I`ll keep an eye open.
  11. Thanks Degsy, I`ll give it a shot. Tim
  12. I`m working on a 1945 CCKW 353 at present and don`t have it`s military reg number, is there a way of figuring an approximate number based on it`s manufacture date or chassis number. Thanks. Tim.
  13. Not that I`m aware of, but you never know "who will have what" for sale on the day. I did meet an interesting chap at the weekend who`s restoring a T34 and thinking of bringing in brass from out East somewhere. I`ll keep you posted.
  14. Yes, W18 is now undercover. Look forward to seeing you here again, I`m sure we can dig out some 432 bits for you Andy. Cheers. Tim

  16. Fantastic to see it returned, I wonder if the thief`s conscience may have been touched on this very forum? We were burgled by a "collector" thief, he still attends shows and rallies where he has also been convicted for thieving De-acs and kit.
  17. Not sure if this helps, it`s from our third DAC and the same key, can get one cut if required.
  18. Yes, the Scammel was still a popular recovery truck in the 70`s, there were two or three within a few miles of here back then. Sadly the rest of the tank was scrapped.
  19. Dad turned out some photos of the previously mentioned Sherman dig. Mid 70`s. Saunton beach, North Devon.
  20. The event is coming together nicely now, it`s early days but we have 35 WWII vehicles already booked in for the convoy. Also found a nice wartime photo of the Assault Training Center showing one of the concrete "dummy" landing craft being used for embarkation/disembarkation training, there are several of these still standing and we hope to re-create images like this on the day, using archive photos.
  21. It was Chris, from the hotel/car park end about a mile or so up the beach where it starts to bend round into the estuary. I`ll quiz the "old man" and see if we could find the spot, as the Devon D Day convoy should be driving that part of the beach (nearer the shore) on it`s tour of the training area.
