  1. I think a sense of humour would be required as well, seen the state of the engine bay! (What you can see of it). Somebody brave with rose tinted specs and heaps of optimism will think its the mutts nuts.
  2. There is an old outdoor/surplus shop in Aberdeen just across from where i work, that has NOS Ammo boots stored away in its deepest recesses, they just require the nails fitting, im sure they are dated about 1950!
  3. Very lucky man, i noticed there was a mention of the "Blue Max" on the site and how it was filmed at the time. Maybe he has an overiding desire to make a WW1 flyers film, with his know how it would be pretty epic, make a change from the weird sci-fi or disaster based mainstream stuff punted out at the moment.
  4. Done a search on the old SE5A fighter and found a website, which is just tremendous, and it is packed full of restoration/manufacture information for a number of Great War Aircraft they have painstakingly built and flown, its a very nice looking website as well, be prepared to be glued to your PC for a while!! http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/node Here is the "Gun" room for the replica weapons to fit to the aircraft, for when they are flying, some of them are blank firers that they use at airshows/films....
  5. There is a Morris MRA1 on e-bay at the moment, i think the seller is overly optimistic, but could be good for spares, really is only worth its weight in scrap. Looks like its ERM in service was 74BE74 and why its owner thinks it is WW2 vintage i am not sure! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MORRIS-COMMERCIAL-LORRY-WW2-4WD-1945-MPA1-1-TON-COMPLET_W0QQitemZ260536313179QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item3ca92ca55b
  6. That is a very good point, im sure there is stuff that otherwise wont get touched for years.
  7. If anybody would like to make a donation to my AFV project, it would be gratefully received! Selling points are well over 150 people had a ride in it last year, at a charity event, far more than the Tiger. The public are allowed to sit in it at shows, and take photos! thereby making it all a more memorable experience. And all the money collected/raised goes to Help for Heroes!! Joking aside, im sure its worthy and all that, but its like the Vulcan bomber, surely if its to continue to operate, a certain amount of it has to be self funded, surely enthusiast open nights where special access is given compared to normal museum visitors...at a price of course, and a whole host of other intiatives could be created to make it pay its way, rather than saying "if you want to see it run, give us a donation". I doubt that it is the sole draw for crowds to museum events!
  8. Surely putting some fixings into the ground and winching the nose gear down would be the ticket?
  9. Taken this afternoon, snow waist deep on the road. Fortunately there has been barely any wind so very little drifting, Anybody have a spare Snowcat!!:-D
  10. By the time you get the Lightning, the airspace is getting pretty busy!!
  11. WD40 eats rubber seals, try GT85 or other water repelling spray that is safe on rubber.
  12. Put what you have from the army records on here, somebody will be able to point you in the right direction, give you more info.
  13. the red/yellow square is 101 Armoured Car Regiment R.A.C., the yellow square with the black Dhow is the Aden theatre marking.
  14. Heres another Aden Ferret, they were to be found in the Aden town of "Crater" and further into the "Interior" desert area known as the Radfan. “Photo Courtesy of xrhgb.com”
  15. The vertical fallen snow is up to the centre hubs on my pig, where it has drifted, it is significantly deeper, should get some pictures really! Was just watching advice from the AA to carry a torch, blanket a shovel and a mobile phone! I believe in a bit of self sufficiency so in addition i have a multifuel stove, 24hr ration pack, sleeping bag, survival bag, reflective vest, wind up torch, cyalume sticks, vehicle recovery gear and snow shoes all packed in a box in the boot. Dont normally have a problem with snow as the Shogun is wearing some grippy snow wellies. Might sound excessive, but a couple died of hypothermia in a car in a snow drift a number of years ago, only a few miles from where i live.
  16. Ive been using GT85 Brit made, used by the MOD, it's alot better than WD40, smells more like furniture polish, and it doesnt bugger up rubber seals and components like WD40 does. I believe it is called PX24 in Mil parlance and used on subs etc. Its also cheaper than WD40. Link: www.gt85.co.uk
  17. The X braced ladder chassis is very strong, the fixed part of the axles are then bolted to that, along with very substantial bash plates to protect them, and on the Pig the armoured body is mainly 1/4" plate with 1/2" along most of the frontal parts, solidly welded, if there was any flex in the chassis, it is completely eliminated by the solid armoured box bolted to it.
  18. I heard they found somebody floating face down at W&P, unfortunate, but thats the sort of thing that happens when a large, broad cross section of society are in one place.
  19. "The British Army Brand", for f***s sake! Would of loved to have been on the committee for that camouflage design:_ "Right we are going to make a uniform that will be perfect for operating in Afghanistan" But what about if we want a fight somewhere else? "You are right, it wouldnt work, lets make something that sits on the fence, and doesnt really work anywhere at all, the boys will say its a bit cack but it saves us a bit of money!" I like the way they demo'd it against shrubbery, the present DPM blended in nicely, the new one stood out like a Pistachio ice cream!
  20. Its a motor from an old table saw! bom bom tish
  21. Never understood why they painted the Census numbers on the sides of vehicles in large white characters, completely destroys any form of camouflage, would of thought black/green or similiar would of been more effective. The picture of the airborne troops stood next to the jeep is a good example.
  22. Something from Nokia like an N96 decent zeiss lensed camera, good phone, its a nokia so easy to get fixed/unlocked everybody sells the spares, tons of features, everybody has a charger it doesnt break as soon as look at it, and load up your own MP3 music without all of that silly i-tune locked to a computer thing. Proper grown ups phone. Most people i know with an i-phone cant wait to get rid of them!
  23. Its not all what i have heard from the forum, also other sources including visitors. I have heard that the Dorset fair has its "Travellers" but then i have also heard plenty about tea leafs taking kit at War & Peace, so i think that balances out. Just for the size of the show, GDSF seems to manage better than W&P without charging the exhibitors, which are part of "The spectacle" and no MV's, no show! unless the re-enactors which apparently dont have to pay??? would provide that.
  24. Mobile Phone Forensics is my day job! i-phones are just crap in comparison to alot of other phones on the market, nice design and display, which breaks easily, get a Silicon rubber protective case for it as soon as you get it, they will charge you a fortune for a screen repair, and the battery is fixed in-situ, so when its only holding a charge for a short time, which wont take long, they are power hungry phones, its off to your dealer or back street bodger to sort. Crap camera, crap video you pay for all of the apps needed to make it any good.....it goes on. But look on the bright side, commit a crime and get caught, the amount of data the police can extract from it is very high, we love em! :cool2:
