guy66
Hello. I was offered this Bedford Gearbox some time ago . Looks to have a PTO on the box.
64EK26
Hi The control looks a bit strange as I thought it went straight up (from and MWR ?) Cheers Richard
guy66
You are right , the same person has also a gearbox with this type of lever as on your picture .
wally dugan
The pump fitted is a mono pump type sc3 it is the same pump whether fitted at the front or underneath mine is driven off the crank shaft l found it still in its wooden box brand new with the mounting fittings for £
64EK26
Hi Thanks for the input on the pumps, some phots would be good The only thing I could find on the net was this http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Mono_Pumps With a nice cut away picture (no reall idea of size) Cheers Richard
landrover nick
Hi this is an interesting question i do not think i have seen a restored MWC with its original pto driven pump and fittings there seam to be a great number of different pto drives which will fit the Bedford gear box most of which are not war time fittings the correct pto drive for the MWR is shown in the first photo . The control linkage comes into the cab as the small button on the floor which is pulled up to engage the pto looking in the Bedford mw parts book lists a pto assembly only for the MWR is it possible that the company which built the water tank and assembled the truck also supplied the pto hence it not being listed in the Bedford parts book ? wally dugan
There is a separate parts list for the tank and pump fittings Richard as soon as my son in law visits l will get him to take some pictures. The pumps came complete with a fitting kit as per the spare parts list
64EK26
Thanks Wally A copy of the parts list (if you have it would be very good), a separate parts list makes sense as there is very little MWC specific items in the parts manual I have. Is there a separate MWC users manual/drivers manual ? as the 'drivers handbook' although it says it covers the MWC has nothing about engaging the PTO, but the MWR is mentioned. I think that my tank was made by AP Butterfields in Ripley, but there is no makers mark or ID's on it. Cheers Richard
wally dugan
RICHARD have you got the hand book water tank truck and water tank trailer covers BEDFORD MWC and the MORRIS COMMERCIAL as well as the water bowser trailer. The tank on mine is made by Thompson brothers which is cast into the tank lid the pump is not that big or heavy and it is mounted to the standard Bumper REGARDS WALLY
64EK26
Wally I dont have that handbook, didn't know it existed, this will be invaluable for my MWC restoration. Do you have a copy, and is there any chance I could have a copy please ? The PTO (minus pump) looks like this the 'U' supports sit between the chassis Standard PTO Attachment, with control in cab I assume that the double chain drive drives the pump which I assume is mounted on tha near side chassis The control mechanism sit in the cab, there should be another lever on the top Cheers Richard
wally dugan
RICHARD I can copy both books for you but we are a bit snowed under at the moment with jobs l will PM you later today for your contact details it may take a week or two REGARDS WALLY
guy66
That's a picture from a MWC gearbox with PTO.Will have a look as there came a double chain pinion on bearings with my Morris , not sure if this was a original part.
64EK26
Hi From the length of the levers, it would appear that this would have been operated in the same was as the 'standard' tyre compressor Cheers Richard
guy66
Think there is a trap in the Cabin floor to operate the pump lever , but will make some enqaries with the owner of this MWC.
