VW Iltis / Bombardier ?

As far as my dim brain can recall the Canadian ones were built under licence by Bombardier, who also went on to make some for the Belgians.

They are popular here and were the last (until someone proves me wrong) petrol powered manual transmission vehicle bought for the Canadian Forces (CF).

On the CF ones there is a small valance at the base of the seat box for the rear passengers that doubles as a snow gurad over the front of the rad in winter.

There were CF ones with and without a tailgate and the spare tyre location changed with that. There was also a line layer version with a cable reel mechanism and racks for ladders, few of those have survived in civvy street.

As a two person light liason vehicle it was excellent. As with any military vehicle it was overloaded and people tried o make it do things and go places it shouldnt. Its end was signalled when a number of CF members lost their lives in the "un armoured jeep" as the papers reported during the Balkans episode. Since then it has been replaced by the G Wagen.
