Rlangham
On my way back home from London for christmas, I stopped off at the Shuttleworth Collection as it's conveniently half way between London and Leicestershire for me. The smell of dope, oil and whatever else makes old planes smells so good that hits you as you walk into Hangar 2 made my day! It's a great place to wander around on a static day, the photos and information around the hangar walls are just as interesting as the aircraft. I can reccomend the Turkey and vegetable pie in the resturant too, fantastic pastry. As well as the Crossley, there's also a Fordson WOT2 radio van and two BSA M20's (both with the same C registration number!) http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/5852/storchgt9.jpg[/img] Storch in the workshop http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/6306/spitfirese6.jpg[/img] Spitfire AR501 http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/3189/seahurricaneyn0.jpg[/img] Sea Hurricane http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/1537/avro504fx0.jpg[/img] Avro 504 http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/7439/bristoldm9.jpg[/img] Nice set up with the Bristol fighter and Hucks starter http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/1788/pupwb2.jpg[/img] Sopwith Pup http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/8857/gladiatoryx6.jpg[/img] Gloster Gladiator http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/2580/southernmartletrx5.jpg[/img] Southern Martlet http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/2645/cometip7.jpg[/img] http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/8594/comet2rx4.jpg[/img] The gorgeous de Havilland Comet racer http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/9552/deperdussinjn0.jpg[/img] Deperdussin http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/6139/avrofu4.jpg[/img] My favourite of the pre-WWI aircraft, the Avro triplane http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/8307/crossleyjf8.jpg[/img] Crossley Royal Flying Corps staff car, the tender version is in the RAF Museum http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/9643/wolseleyhw1.jpg[/img] Crossley M5 http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2356/morrisoxfordnj0.jpg[/img] 1913 Morris Oxford http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/9940/steamobilewl9.jpg[/img] 1901 Locomobile steam car http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/8784/pietenpolaircamperrc6.jpg[/img] Pietenpol Air Camper http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4475/austervalphatt4.jpg[/img] Lycoming engined Auster V Alpha
Rick W
Very nice pics! I only live about half an hour away from that and the last time I went was about 30 years ago on a school trip. Must go to more evnts there next year. Any dates recommeded?
Jessie The Jeep
A friend of mine owns the Storch and several other aircraft based there. Every so often, I'm lucky enough to get to have a play in them. Shown below are Pete's Ryan PT-22, Miles Falcon Major, me in the back of the Falcon, and the Miles Magister. An open cockpit ride in the Magister feels much less secure than the Falcon with its enclosed cabin, even though the harness would probably hold an elephant! If you get the chance to go to Old Warden, do so, you'll find a unique atmosphere there difficult to find anywhere else in the UK. woa2
As a WOT2 owner, I would like a detailed look at the WOT2 in the collection. Who is best to contact so that I can get a 'behind the scenes' look at it? Many thanks. Robert Davey
