john1950
This day in history the starting gun was fired by the German Army on what became known as the Battle of the Bulge. A last gasp attempt planned by Hitler in the west to cause havoc in the Allied lines and reach the coast. Later in the month would come operation Nordwind an operation in the Alsace region of France to try to cut off General Patton's army in it's push to join the fight further North. Both operations would ultimately fail in their objective with terrible casualties on both sides. There would be many acts of heroism and dogged determination to hold the line, or slow the retreat down. As well as acts of barbarism before this operation was concluded and called off.
