New member, short-time lurker, long-time admirer

Hey all,

Thought I’d introduce myself 🙂

My Dad was in the REME for over twenty four years, so I’ve had quite a few close up experiences in various bits of British kit growing up! My favourite was the Stolly, my five-year old self squealing with joy as I was hoisted over the side before the heavy-breathing beast took off, straight into the crystal-blue waters of Cyprus in the late seventies!

Dad also served across the UK and Germany; 40fd RA, 8th Sigs, 22 SIGs and 240 Sqn RCT and 16/5th QRL, amongst others. His all-favourite vehicle was the 434, I even bought him a 1:35 scale AA model to keep his spirits up when he fell ill, but he sadly succumbed to cancer before he could start it. I’ll do it justice in his memory one day.

 

I came across the site whilst looking at a Stolly resto, the blog pages are amazing. I admire the real drive and determination shown by many of the owners.

I doff my cap to you all, looking forward to reading many more!
