tyler
Aussie built 1962 Slr: part of a contract supplied to New Zealand, Post 95 deac, with sling and unissued/unused L1a3 bayonet. Thinking of selling it to fund a project. Whats it worth? thanks Edited June 8, 2015 by tyler

snowdrop358
dont no about nz but that looks like a 30 rd ar mag not the standard aus 20 Nope, that's a 20 round SLR mag. FN modified a FAL in the 80's to fit a AR mag and it looked 'unique'. :wow:
Chris Hall
Just for interest, the Aussies had a 30 round L4 mag and a 30 round L2 mag, the latter being identified by their straightness compared to the L4 mag. Both came in modified .303 Bren MK1* mag boxes.
Starfire
The problem with the 30 round BREN mags being fitted to the SLR is that the BREN is a top feed and therefore the magazine springs were a little on the weak side to feed reliably without the gravity assistance. brockwood
ar thou was a non standard issue normaly used a 20rd to get more depression and save wear on mag catch had brens as well thou never fired one again not standard for inf mainly transport standard was m60 while slr mag would work on bren there was talk that it stuffed the feed lips and when it came back would play up on slr bj aus Edited August 7, 2018 by brockwood dill
Starfire
The one pictured is fitted with a 20 round mag - you'll note that it's about level with the bottom of the pistol grip. The 30s are loooong - certainly much more so than an AR15 mag, as the 7.62x51 has a considerably larger diameter. Cheers, Terry
Chris Hall
The gravity fed 30 round mag on a SLR is a bit of an old wives tale. The 20 and 30 round mags were designed to be interchangeable from day one. The design team of the L4 would have had a much easier time of it, if they didn't have to convert the .303 guns around the magazine design!
