Tim Isaac
I`ve been doing a few odd jobs on the Sexton and can`t for the life of me figure out this "mirror arm" right in front of the drivers vision hatch. A crude vehicle/gun aiming device? mirror arm for 1940`s style selfie? It`s a late production (278207) EX Portugal vehicle. Any ideas? Adrian Barrell
Tim, it's known as the drivers foresight. You line it up with the little notch in the bottom of the hatch opening to give something to indicate the axis of the vehicle. I have a correct towrope for it if you need one. Tim Isaac
Thanks Adrian, I had a feeling you might shed some light on it. They seem to be on most but not all Sextons, was it a field mod type thing? the notch and welding don`t look factory. Tow rope sounds interesting, is it similar to the Sherman one? Adrian Barrell
It's in the handbook but not the parts list. It could be it was introduced part way through production. I can't remember if it was on the one I restored, it was nearly 30 years ago...... I'll have to check my pictures but that was a very late one, S287181. Tow rope is the same as Sherman, I still have a couple spare.
