Managed to get a copy of the records for my '59 Ferret Mk I/I (01CC99) from Bovington.

The scan is poor but with the help of a magnifying glass, I'm hoping members can help me decode my Vehicle History Card:

Peter...."THANK YOU" - "Thank You", this is awesome and what a history file.

I wonder what happened from May 1988 to July 1994 ...do you think the record is missing any history or was this the wind down for Ferrets in service?

The seller of the Ferret was quite adamant that 01CC99 served in Gulf I !!! but looking at this, it seems to have spent most of its life in Germany (BAOR Theatre).

I have printed this and it is now proudly part of 01CC99 History File.

You're welcome!

It's not uncommon for Ferrets and other British Army vehicles to have spent YEARS in storage, so it could have been at Ludgershall for the whole time, but.......the cards are not always accurate (my Land Rover Lightweight definitely went to the Gulf in 1991, but there's not mention of this in any vehicle records!).

The manually competed Vehicle History Cards seem to have been replaced by the Merlin computer system in the mid 80s so there may possibly some Merlin history for your Ferret covering the Gulf War period. To obtain this, you need to submit a Freedom of Information Act request to the MOD Chief Information Officer - CIO-FIO@mod.uk - tell them what information you're after (Merlin record for your Ferret 01 CC 99) and why (private historical research).

Please let us know how you get on!
