steveo578
While looking for something else I came across this http://www.panzermodel.com/Forum/index.php?topic=6383.0 quite a shock as I assumed all 250 where some were used as MP vehicles in USA until replaced by the more suitable M20 and then targeted or scrapped, but obviously some were sent Brazil as Lease/Lend. Pzkpfw-e
Two are known to be preserved in Brazil. Parque Regional de Manutenção/1, Vila Militar, Rio de Janeiro "The Brazilian army will only employ armored wheeled vehicles from the Second World War (1939 -45), while in 1941 begins to receive military equipment coming from the United States, reaching the first M-3 Scout Car, 4x4, 6x6 the first T-17 Deerhound, and this vehicle was only used by the United States and Brazil, and when the country sent an expeditionary force to fight in the Italian Theater of Operations, a Reconnaissance Squadron was equipped with 13 armored 6x6 M-8 Greyhound, who would return to Brazil and after that conflict would be a shield which greatly influenced the Brazilian Army, not only in its use but also served as a platform for future projects of national industry" http://www.defesanet.com.br/rodas/
The Bedford Boys
So, basically, a deerhound is an Greyhound with a staghound turret?
steveo578
It's more like a 6x6 version of a staghound -greyhounds are a much lighter vehicle, Dearhound about a ton heavier than the Staghound but Greyhound nearly half the weight. The Bedford Boys
A staghound ain't that light as it is!!!
steveo578
Yes, very heavy - I suppose the Staghound was the succesful outcome of the trackless tank and the T13 as a concept. The Staghound is a wheeled equivelent of the light/medium tank M7. The M8 owes it existance to a requirement for a light wheeld tank destroyer/recce vehicle for tank destroyer command to serve along side fast tracked TDs like the M18. Staghound is a fantastic vehicle though - a particular favourite and the Dearhound likewise -just never expected that any would still exist:D. Steve A friend of ours owns both a Staghound and a greyhound. Absolutely fantastic vehicles, I have yet to have a drive of either, but I look forward to the day!!!
