Jessie The Jeep
A wheel is a wheel is a wheel.......or is it! I was told that the early MB wheels were riveted, later came the split rims, and then Hotchkiss had welded rims. Whether this is all completely fact I don't know, but I'm sure someone here will know, and I'd also like to know the dates that these changes happened. If possible, can somebody post some pictures of the differences in Jeep wheels. Thanks Steve
cripp
I think this is about right. The early slat grill jeeps had a solid wheel. Next came the combat rim, then the solid hotchkiss type and then the solid type with slots cut in. Have a look here for some info and pictures. http://www.vintagewiringofmaine.com/jeepguy/rim/wheelid.html

stanpart57
Hotchkiss rims came in rivetted and welded types also! I have some of each, will take some pictures next time I remember :-) Paul.
Jessie The Jeep
Thanks for the replies so far. My wheels are, I think, the M201 riveted types. Looking at them, where the wheel bolts pass through, they seem to have a wider flange than any of the other jeep wheels I've seen. Chris Aldous
If you come across any of the original riveted ones, keep hold of them as they are quite rare and worth good money cheers Chris
Jessie The Jeep
Here's one of my wheels. You can see how wide the flange is where the wheel bolts pass through. Steve
