agripper
How many have they got. conted at least 3 M3's. But what about the turrets? Intesting the pieces already cutout?
steveo578
I sure if they were available for sale Ron Fry or one of the other Oz collectors would have rescued them. The pieces cut out were used on ploughs, rippers etc, the rolled steel armour was seen as a ready source material. Oddly enough the cast Grant and Staghound turrets seem to have survived better than other types. On the web there are a couple of photos of an abandoned M3 chassis in Madang, New Guinea, which was used for jungle clearance. Madang is where the Australian Army trialed various types of M4s against Churchills in 1944 www.ski-epic.com/2008_papua_new_guinea/madang.html about 2/3rds down the page labeled "Sherman Tank" Steve

Scivo18
Hi Guys Some of the tanks are still there, but the owner can be difficult so on the right day you might get lucky, but I believe that you need an introduction to do any good. fesm_ndt
theres a big yard in one of the wheatbelt towns in West Oz as I was sent a piccy from there recently (on my other laptop). The council owns them but its a shame as rusting away (I'll try to get the pictures from who sent them to me earlier). Also a lot of stuff at truscott airbase which has been reopened for servicing the East Timor rigs.
phil munga
I'm normally quite good at searching Goggle maps on satellite view , but you can't zoom in very much , so added to the search Murrayville Victoria, Australia "scrap yard " and it comes up strait away ,, took a bit of doing but got the link to work below http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Murrayville+Victoria,+Australia+scrap+yard&sll=-35.242395,141.208134&sspn=0.060706,0.107117&ie=UTF8&hq=scrap+yard&hnear=Murrayville+VIC,+Australia&ll=-35.264087,141.187255&spn=0.007586,0.01339&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A Edited December 21, 2009 by phil munga

steveo578
agripper Is that a Valantine in the background? Yes and some rover scout car bodies in the first pic. Lots of good stuff- but is this the melbourne scrap yard? Steve
fesm_ndt
I see the spelling given to me was incorrect http://www.nungarin.com/schedule.htm http://www.collectionsaustralia.net.au/org/1607/about/ and Truscott Airbase. Most the stuff was laying around as the place was inaccessible. I knew someone that risked a landing there years ago and found fantastic stuff but you could not carry it out. Recently reopened to service east timor http://kimberleycruising.com.au/Kimberley%20History/truscott.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mungalalu_Truscott_Airbase http://www.shorelands.com.au/sa_gallery.html
