1. Even on its side, it's too wide for a container, unless you took the wheels off or something. Getting it in and out of the container would be a nightmare though. - If you were going to that trouble, you could probably strip off the wheel stations and fenders, then it would fit in the right way, which may even be feasible if you used an open sided container. If you are actually thinking of shipping one, you're probably better off getting it shipped as a vehicle. Cheers, Terry
2. They are used to mark if meat is safe to eat or not; blue for good, red for bad. Cheers, Terry
3. I've found it to be a bit hit and miss since updating to Window 8.1. Changing between editing modes a couple of times seems to help though.
4. Here in Australia, the Saracen requires a HR (Heavy Rigid) license, which allows the driver to operate any non-articulated vehicle with a trailer up to 9 metric tons. Weight wise, it falls into the MR (Medium Rigid) class, but the fact that it has 3 axles pushes it into HR. Cheers, Terry
5. Sorry, my confusion comes from a lack of reading comprehension; I took what you said to mean that your Ferret served in the Canadian Navy (which struck me as a little strange, but I have no idea how the Canadian Navy protects their bases), not that you had. It did indeed appear to be a very British Ferret. Cheers, Terry
6. I'm probably wrong here, but I thought that the Canadians only ever used the Mk 1 Ferrets. Has this one been converted to a Mk 2 specification or was it originally a Mk 2? Cheers, Terry
7. Thanks Richard, From what I understand from the Service Schedule, the OX 8 was used in some early Saracens, but most were changed over to OM 13 at some stage and are identified by a placard on the hydraulic tank. Mine is marked OM 13. Cheers, Terry
8. And for the lazy people, here is the link: British Military Oils and Lubricants
9. Hi Richard, If that is an open offer, can you please let me know what I should be using in my Saracen?

Category Temperate/Tropical (Above -5 Degrees Celsius) Severe Winter (-5 to -20 Degrees Celsius)

Oil OM 13 No Change

Oil OX 8 No Change

Oil OMD 75 No Change

Oil OEP 220 OEP 38

Oil OX 320 No Change

Grease XG 279 No Change

Protective PX 7 No Change

Thanks, Terry
10. Do you have any pictures of what the faulty port looked like before the armour repair? The same one on my MK5 doesn't close properly, but I'm unsure if the hinge is faulty (it doesn't open all the way either) or if I have the same problem with bulging armour. Cheers, Terry
11. I agree with the others, given the amount of work already done and the fact that the vehicle is for sale, it should be painted. It looks like a really starting point too - it'll look fantastic done.
12. I've always though that for some extra power in a car or power boat, the B series would benefit from: 1) a better exhaust manifold 2) multiple carbies (DCOE) 3) forced induction 4) EFI
13. Is that Saladin supported by a stack of pavers? You should never support a vehicle on bricks as they can shatter suddenly and collapse, especially not a vehicle as heavy as a Saladin! Please invest in some good quality, welded steel stands. Cheers, Terry
14. The MK 6 Saracen was a MK 3 that had extra armour added and a few other upgrades, itself a MK 2 with reverse flow cooling. Externally, the most telling are that the MK 6 does not have a rear gun ring or roof window, Has a round flange around the base of the turret, has a squared cover over the fuel filter and has heavy armour plates welded to the sides. Internally, the MK 6 is fitted with brown spall liners. Cheers, Terry
15. Is that a MK 6 Saracen in the background?
16. Adelaide has Haigh's. Haigh's > Cabury. On a more on-topic note, don't give up on the truck now, it's too cool and you've come too far for that. Cheers, Terry
17. Whether you like it or not, it wouldn't be a proper round Australia trip if you didn't go through all of the mainland capitals, bonus points for going to Hobart
18. If, and when you do get to Adelaide, drop by for a beer. Cheers, Terry
19. Wow, That's a good looking chassis. A bit of paint and a few bolts, you'll be on the road in no time! Cheers, Terry
20. Thanks Scott, Those photos are really handy. That also appears to be a very tidy Saracen! Cheers, Terry
21. Thanks Guys, The Saracen is a MK5 APC (GPMG). I've already decided that I will be fitting Clansman series gear, probably a PRC-352 and a VRC-353. I would have liked to have used the standard support tray, but since most of it appears to be missing anyway, I will probably fabricate something up, based on the Ferret's Clansman mount. I need to get my head around the power distribution setup installed in my Saracen (it appears a little dodgy) and work out if I need to use the Power Distrubution No 8 box that I have floating around in the back of it, as I only have one set of batteries, but I do have a 30V, 300w generator set, which I unserstand were not normally fitted to the APCs. Cheers, Terry
22. Hi Alan, Were are you based? I'm in Adelaide myself and have always had a bit of a soft spot for the Champ, although I don't own one. Cheers, Terry
