  1. The War and Peace Show had become history itself, all we see now and probably will see in the near future, are cries beyond the grave. Given the fact that no action is undertaken or news is shared so short before the event we can only conclude that it is gone, all that remain are the lovely memories of this once marvelous show. Just my 1p opinion, Rgds. Sjoerd
  2. Welkom Lenny, Another Dutch guy finds it way to this forum. Where are you located in the Netherlands? Greetings from Renkum, Sjoerd
  3. I see that contact is established. rgds. Sjoerd

  6. Hello all, Over the last days i did some major updates in the site. Still in no means complete, but every step is one forward to get al relevant information located and published. Please take a look on www.morris-commercial.nl If you've got something to add, or would like to get your C8 in the register, please contact me. Regards, Sjoerd van de Wal
  7. Hello all, Some of you might already found it or saw my spamming on the Morris Commercial C8 Facebook pages, but last year i started a small side project to gather and share information about wartime Morris Commercial trucks. Especially the C8, but also other types will be added during time. Also i am building a register of Morris Commercial C8 owners, so please send in the details of your truck to get these added. Anonymous, if necessary, no problem. If you'd like to contribute, or correct, information please do so. Please take a look on http://www.morris-commercial.nl/ and tell me what you think, Regards, Sjoerd van de Wal
  8. Hi Chris, Contact Frank Brown, he made the canvas for my Morris and am very pleased. I guess he is able to make canvas for the Tilly. Rgds. Sjoerd
  9. Hello all, It has been a long time since i last gave an update about the restoration of my Morris Commercial C8. In the mean time we have finished all mechanical and electrical work, replaced rotten wooden sections, changed tyres and done the painting. Truck is now ready to be examined bij the authorities to get it on the road again. This examination will be next friday, so hopefully it will be found in order and we finally can get driving. The truck will be at War and Peace this year, alltough not completly finished yet. See pictures underneath for a impression. First testdrive with my wife and son (incl. support bunny). Side view and name of the Truck (Myrtle) Insignia finished. Rgds. Sjoerd van de Wal
  10. Hi Niek, restoration is going well i see :-) Looks very nice, however i would have made it black because i still do not found evidence that they ever were delivered field grey. Or do you have some extra information? Can you tell me if you've got new spools for the electrics and where you've found them? I am still looking for a set for the ignition and lighting. Rgds. Sjoerd
  11. Nice picture Niek, never saw this one before. Speedometer was a postwar adding because in Germany you must have a speedometer. Mine RT98 does not have a Speedometer as it is a original Ducth motorcycle. That the German army used them is a fact, but i have no eveidence nor ever saw one in army colours. The fact that some got a military registration number is not strange, when vehicles were conficated the local administrator wrote the vehicles in the inventory and gave it a number. Whole reason to do so is that it could get fuel etc. But when you look on higher level you'll never find these kind of motorcycles. Smallest motorcycle used by the German army was the DKW RT125. All adaptations made to vehicles could be made in the field, there are legio variations. Like to see it once in real. Do you have the spare parts manuals and workshop book? Rgds, Sjoerd
  12. Hello Niek, At first i would like to congratulate you with the purchase of this fine bike, they are really reliable and lovely machines. I have one myself and am very happy with it. You've managed to find a special type of the RT98, a so called "Gelände- ausführung" or in english country version. The exhaust is placed higher than on the normal RT98's. But, this machine was officially never used by the German Army. The only DKW bike that was used by the German Army was the NZ350 and NZ350-1. Also the SB200 was used by the Luftwaffe. As a DKW enthousiast and restorer of several prewar DKW bikes and owner of several machines i've made a long study to DKW machine being used by the German Army. The DKW RT98 and it's sisters from NSU were used in small numbers from 1935 to 1939 by the Hitlerjugend for instructional matters. Offcourse during the war, when material became scarce, everything tend to be used by the German army. If i may give you a tip i would suggest you restore it as it originally was, just plain semi gloss black. This was the only colour the were made by DKW. Enjoy your bike! If you need any tips, don't hesitate to contact me. Rgds. Sjoerd van de Wal
  13. Thank you Tony, I was planning in buying the paint from Paints R us. Heard that their Olive Drab was pretty good, and as i will be in the UK in 2 weeks time i save myself the postage costs. Rgds. Sjoerd
  14. Some time since last update, but the radiator is as new. The old core indeed was completly gone, so replacing this was no luxury. All wiring have been removed and new period correct looking wire have been found, so a new cable beam will be made up. Steering wheel has been gone to someone who will fill all the cracks in it so it will be useable and looking good again. At the moment doing a search for the correct later war British Olive Drab paint, this is the colour we finally found underneath several layers of paint that we've found on the truck. Slowly there is being worked to the moment of having it on the road again and the start of the cosmetic work. Rgds. Sjoerd
  15. It was a wonderfull week with beautifull vehicles and fun people. Unfortunatly there were some organising issues, but apart from that we've had a special week which will be remembered for a long time. Rgds. Sjoerd
  16. I will keep you informed, The markings will be the ever open eye. Brought the radiator to a company the have the core replaced. There were some leaks and i decided that if the radiator is to made anyway that we could do with a new core to improve the cooling abilities and to know for sure that nothing is wrong with it. Cost some money, but is well worth it. Original data plate, this will be replaced on the new core. Keep you informed, now there will be some work on the Autovac system. Got new components in the post at the moment, hopefully they will arrive soon. Rgds. Sjoerd
  17. No Prinses Irene Brigade, they did not use these trucks. Eventually it will be painted up as Coldstream guards, but first a lot of work to be done. First the mechanical work needs to be done and the electrical work. After that the truck can be officialy imported in the Netherlands and it will be road legal. Then we start the cosmetic restauration. Hopefully it will be presentable on the 9th of may next year. Rgds. Sjoerd
  18. Yesterday i visited the workshop of my friend again after some months with other priorities. Becoming a father takes some more time than expected :-) I managed to find all the parts i needed on War and Peace such as al the rubber parts for the brake system and hoses. So i brought them to the workshop and collected the radiator so it can be reworked. At this moment it is very leaky. Some other work since than has been done, wiring starts to get sorted out. Also we have a view of important work that needs to be done before it can get it's license plates. Fuel system and electrical system will be completely renewed, and the brakes will be completely overhauled. Also we will get the wire brushes out and clean the whole underside of the truck and give it a good layer of iron oxide paint and a nice layer of British Olive Drab. This is the colour it had when it left the factory, we found several spots with this colour. After that the whole truck will be painted in British Olive Drab. The only thing we are still searching for is the canvas.... Hopefully it will be on the road anywhere around October. Some pictures: Rgds. Sjoerd
  19. May i asked who made your canvas, and what the price was? At the moment i am restoring a Morris C8 and all the canvas is missing, so i need a full set and have bnot found a company yet who could do this without an example. Kind regards, Sjoerd van de Wal

    tank sealer

Singe. I did a search to see if it is for sale in the UK, and it is. I have very good experiences with Fedox and Tapox, made by Fertan http://www.fertan.co.uk. The first being a rust converter and the second a 2 component sealant. I've done severall tanks and jerrycans with this stuff and am very happy with it. Rgds. Sjoerd
  21. Thank you Danny, I've got a good life at the moment, everything is going the way i want. As you can see it's not going to be an Bedford, but we found this lovely truck and both decided that this should be the one. Restoration will probably take some time, as being a father will have more priority. But steadily we will restore this vehicle in its former glory. Rgds, Sjoerd
  22. Thank you Ivor, Truck is marked on the other side as free Polish. But i doubt that this is correct for this truck. It is unknown what the wartime history is of this truck, all i know is that is was sold off in Belgium after the war by the British and that is was used as a tow truck til late 1970s. after that is was given this green paint and markings. I will restore the truck probably as 30 corps or a 1st Armoured. not quite sure what. First we got a lot of work to do to get the truck in a more presentable way. Wiring needs sorting and also a lot of tidying up underneath needs to be done, and after that a lot of cosmetic work lays ahead. Rgds. Sjoerd
  23. Luckily i have the maintanance manual and the drivers handbook, but thanks for mentioning. Yesterday i have collected the truck and brought it to someone i know who will sort the mechanical and electrical stuff out and make it all in order so we can get it road legal. I decided to lett this be done and only do the cosmetical work myself as i do not have the time at the moment because we are expecting a baby in some weeks time. And that has definatly top priority over all the restoration projects. But as we would like to drive this truck in all the remembrance festivities that are coming up this year and next year we made this decision. Here are some pictures, more will follow as soon as i got them from my phone.... Rgds. Sjoerd
  24. Indeed, i guess this is the same truck. But i will be needing some parts, such as black out light and correct mirrors to start with. Rgds. Sjoerd
