CLIVE the one l found on MERLIN is titled merlin one in the amendments at the end it refers to DATA ACCURACY
l need to find merlin 2 to see if that gives you your answer if you call up merlin which l have done and ask for details on BUSBAR it still comes up but states no results so they have not amended the system and corrected the spelling mistake
l wont wade in but the BARBEL is a bottom feeder and a good indicator of toxins in water so is to do with the quality
of drinking water carried in the vehicle
its rather funny that early sales of around 1919 /1920s showed both chassis and registration number where as post war
they only show registration number also early sales gave more detail post second world war two the description was hit and miss for example if you want say to find a morris quad the description says morris tractor 4x4 but a guy will say guy quad gun tractor 4x4 as to your question if l find one l will post details for you
the first is from june 1948 of 2,240 vehicles l see some HUMBER 8 CWTs a lot were disposed of between 1947/48
the second one is for those who like two wheels this was at a sale of 9,000 vehicles in 1946 july
IVOR it is the nearest to the one on the bridge plate as l mentioned the white line between the yellow and blue but did
the lrish army get any mk 3 quads and when as up to now the only ones mentioned are the mk 2
HI l have got all the catalogues for the sales from 1945 to January 1947 that l have so between now and the new year l will with a friend go though them and list all the morris quads with two of us we should get though them quickly when done l will post the list to you
REGARDS WALLY
in any research you have to start at the source in this case the manufacturer until you ask you should not dismiss it
until you have let the archives reply
right l do not like to be beaten so to start with sending your chassis number to the MODERN RECORDS UNIVERSITY OF
WARWICK who hold the records of MORRIS COMMERCIAL LTD hopefully they will have your vehicles contract number
that's step one
THE VEHICLE has been in civilian hands for 65 years and l do not know how many owners so unless it has been with the
original owner for 65 years and remained untouched you may never find the answer to those markings
RICHARD it does seem strange but the bridge plate shows the remains of the yellow and blue the more you get into this in my opinion the markings are false some ones idea of military markings
it may sound daft but a few weeks ago a customer brought his landrover in saying it lacked power after checking all
the usual things we found that when the choke was pushed in it was not returning the choke lever to the off position fully
its worth a thought
IF as you say this vehicle was sold in 1947 the arm of service would still be red and green as the yellow and blue did not come in to being until the 1950s IF you look at the thread postwar sales catalogues on here you will see that l have collected the records of 150,ooo wartime vehicles sold in the UK between 1945 to 1949 SO do you know at which of the many disposals sale your vehicle was sold at for over thirty years l have probably research more british military vehicles
histories than most
it would seem now from what you have found out that if it was sold by 1947 the only number you may find under the layers
of paint is of course the wartime cenus number beginning with the letter H as to the markings of the RASC yellow and blue
these would have be used after it left military service as at the time of sale it would still be green and red l think the markings must have been applied after it left military service by a former owner
THE SENTINEL was fitted with a 7 1/2 ton winch the one we had was used for winching and recovery on the building of the HUMBER BRIDGE ON THE NORH BANK the data sheet states the winch and ground spades as far as l can tell the RAF ones were the same ours was given by the contractors to the museum MANSTON has one the same l gave them a spare half shaft when they broke one as to date early 1960s or there abouts
