  3. There is a interesting book I read recently , the book describes the MI6 operations , it details the mobile MI6 units . They used Guy Ant Wireless Vans and modified US 3/4 Ton Dodge WC Ambulances . The unit also used Packard sedans . Their job was to disseminate the Y intercepts to the Generals in the field . One MI6 mobile unit followed Patton around and the intercepts were hand delivered , each car had its own special wireless sets, these were hand built by the MI6 workshops Secret Wireless War, The: The Story of MI6 Communications 1939-1945 Pidgeon, Geoffrey UPSO, London 2003 ISBN: 1843752522 Pages: Format: Hardcover
  4. Ah lovely Barooga NSW , stinking hot in Summer and plenty of Carp in the river ! I was a young member of the VMVC club , 1977, we had our XMAS trips to Barooga two years running. We had two restored Machine Gun Carriers at the campsite..... and a Ferret among others. I recall lots of gear crunching going on
  5. Original camo on my PU . Camo appears to be two greens , the lighter tone is overall and the disruptive is darker , the desert light stone was applied over the camo. The small patches of grey paint you see was applied by Lanes Motors of Melbourne, they sold the PU in July 1945 to a civilian owner . Lanes also sold CS8's , they were the Morris Commercial agents in Victoria, as such they had first option to buy the surplus MCC trucks in Victoria and sell them to farmers .
  6. Did the RSM order you to "polish the blasted petrol cap" Whats the deal with the Comet tank? Is it running ? A shame that the front line troopers had to wait til almost the wars end before the Comet was available .
  7. Making noises ! Brrm Brrm Was the problem with the ignition timing ? Did you have to move the timing chain ?
  8. Hi If you suspect the ignition timing is out then its easy to check it . Turn the engine over until No.1 piston is at the top dead centre of the compression stroke. note where No. 1 lead is on the dissy cap and mark the dissy body with tape and pen in line with No.1 lead , remove the dissy cap and observe where the rotor is pointing . These OH 6 cyl. engines have a late initial timing , I think its 2 degrees after TDC . The rotor should be pointing towards the No.1 mark on the dissy body . Also observe the points and adjust until theya re just opening Hope that helps Mike

  11. How many do you need ? I probably have some on one of my CS8 wrecks . But I am in Australia . BTW I have some CS8 wheel nuts made from bronze or brass ..not sure which . Mike

  14. Your windscreen appears to be the late "high" type. They increased the height of the windscreen by approx. 3" at some point in the production of the PU . This modification may have been because they had problems with the canvas top flapping about and hitting the occupants ! I have a PU Windscreen frame that has been " field modified" - somebody has welded in 3" extensions each side . The colour you have chosen looks nice, it appears to be Light Bronze Green , from the BSC colour chart ? I found that colour as the original base colour on one of my CS8's , its a light grassy green . Mike
  15. Hi For the amateur restorer , I reckon Windscreen is the best of the bunch . I had a few articles published in Windscreen some years ago - the Jeep fuel gauge setup was one . The editor at that time was very good and he didn't care about the fact that I wasn't a MVT member . Mike in Australia

  17. It was years ago , I do recall looking over the Terrapin hull , it was in the hands of a well known collector here. It was in a sad state but fairly complete with its cyclops eye . Don't know where it is now or if it still exists . Mike
  18. Hi This is a good read and it might help you . http://www.strappe.com/plugs.html From memory , you need the 18mm plugs for that OH engine. Some of the 18mm plugs have a tapered seat which you don't want . Mike

  21. I don' t recall seeing a filter on the manifold in the PU but I will have a look . On a CS8 I have, there is a brass petrol filter below the autovac on the firewall
  22. Looking nice re: the brake pipes, they used a strange single flared end on the pipes . I am wondering what you are planning on doing ? Are you making the bodywork from scratch ? My unrestored PU is pretty original - you need any details let me know and I will check it out for you . Do you have my set of drawings ? Did you reset the springs? If so, how did you do it ?

  24. Hi I have been putting together a C13 station, been finding all of the bits , nearly there . I have two Larkspur battery boxes, these mount to the Land Rover floor ? The short dog bone lead from the PSU to the set is almost impossible to find . A chap in NZ sent me some NOS C13 modules ..thanks Brent ! Mike
