  1. Some more. Komet, Mig, Mustang, Spitfire
  2. On Saturday I went to East Fortune Airshow. East Fortune is a wartime aerodrome situated in East Lothian. Nowadays it is where Scotland's museum of flight is situated. The weather was cloudy and did not bode well for an air display. However, as the morning wore on the clouds lifted a bit and we were set to see some flying in the afternoon. We spent the morning looking around the hangers where the static exhibits are displayed. Concorde takes up all of one hanger. Quite an impressive bit of kit. Hanger two has mostly civilian aircraft displayed within. Hangar three is stuffed full of military planes. buccaneer, harrier, spitfire, Me163 Komet, Mig and many more. There is even one of the engines from the Me110 flown to Scotland in 1941 by Rudolf Hess. Anyway, enough waffling, here are some of my pictures, which, considering it was a bit dull have come out not too badly. Buccaneer, Catalina, Gypsy Moth and Hawker Hunter in weird colour scheme.
  3. No reply today from Comma, I've had a look at Morris's website which looks more promising, so, I'll try and get time to phone them tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the input. Davie.
  4. Aye, my kids like to collect spent cartridges as well. You have to check them carefully though, quite often get misfires and sometimes a live one rattling around in their pockets. By the way, nice to meet you last Sunday Mark. Davie
  5. The manual states, "The gear type oil pump draws oil from the sump through a gauze filter, and delivers it under pressure to the main bearings and big ends, whilst oil bypassed by the spring loaded relief valve is fed over the timing chain, dynamo and oil pump drive gears before falling back to the sump for recirculation" I'll be removing the sump and cleaning the filter etc as a matter of course when I do the oil change. The Comma web site says the classic 30 oil is for petrol engines. They also list a diesel 30 HD. I have emailed them for more information. Thanks for your knowledge so far, I'll let you know more when I've heard back from Comma. Davie
  6. Hi Richard, The oil is for my Albion CX22s. I am aware that I should not put modern detergent oil into it. What does HD stand for? Heavy duty? My local car parts dealer is a comma agent, so I could ask him to get SAE30 if you recon it's a good substitute. Regards, Davie.
  7. I know there was a thread a while back about oil. However, I cannot find it. Can someone post a link to it please. I need to know about oil 30 HD, is it still available, or what is the modern equivalant? Davie
  8. The owner had written the word "non" above the word "airportable"
  9. Hi Tony, it's an RL. Never knew they made one like that.
  10. Here are a few of my photos. We had a great time, and it was good to meet Jack and several other members. It took 13 hours to get home, we were all still vibrating from land-roveritis several hours later. Roll on next year.
  11. Yes, We're coming down tomorrow, my 109 and two 101's in convoy. Leaving Penicuik at 7am sharp. Hopefully be there early evening.
  12. Aye, I'm aware of the excess power implications, however, I have another 11A with a V8 fitted running through the standard transmission. It's been over three years now,I thought the box would have exploded a long time ago, but it's still ok. I recon as my box is in good condition, and driven sensibly it should be ok. Only time will tell though. I'm picking up a pair of stage 1 v8 axles on Saturday to raise the gearing and provide upgraded brakes. These will also cive me cv joints in the front axle, which means if the 11A box explodes I can fit an LT77 box. Tony there is a good article on this conversion, click the link below. http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/200tdiconversion.htm
  13. Hi Jack, The basic engine lump bolts straight on to the 11a gearbox after removing two locating dowels and one stud. Remove the disco engine mounts and fit the mounts from the petrol engine. It then sits directly on to the chassis mounting points. thats the easy bit, then you have to plumb in the intercooler / turbo, radiator and sort out the wiring, throttle etc. I've put one in a 110 before and it's pretty similar, so had a good idea of what to do. The wiring was a bit tricky as it's a 24 volt land rover and a 12 volt engine. Luckily I'm a sparky so it wasn't too much of a problem. Davie.
  14. Hi folks, I haven't posted on here for a while, so thought I'd let you know whats been happening. Today I took my 11A land rover for it's MOT and passed first time! Over the last couple of months I have spent many hours in my shed beavering away making it a happy landy again. The rattly old petrol engine was removed and a lovely 200tdi from a discovery now nestles under the bonnet. The brakes have been fixed and a servo installed, a wee bit of welding to the chassis, and have had a roll bar bent up by the local blacksmith. This is similar to the military bar fitted to 90's and 110's with seat belt mountings attatched. It's never had belts before so was worried about the kids not being tied down. Anyway, now it's roadworthy again I can concentrate on getting ready for war and peace. My 109 and two mates 101's are convoying down a week on Monday, it's only 450 miles. we'll be camping in the quiet field, so be sure to pop round and drink some beer with us. Cheers for now, Davie Reid.
  15. Wow, that looks fantastic. I think this is the one owned by AckAck. Well done Alan, I am mighty impressed by your amazing work. All the best, Davie.
  16. I had a stock of nice seasoned oak and mahogany, so we used that. The original wood that I removed was of three different types, Ash, oak and some soft wood. I am pretty sure they had been there since it was built, so, we reckoned that as there was a war on, and vehicles did not have a long life expectancy, anything that was available was used.
  17. We didn't keep any measurements, but if anyone is desparate i'd be quite happy to measure it and do a drawing.
  18. Here are a few more photos of ferrets in Cyprus. I got these from my Dad who was the Padre with 1st Bn the Gordon Highlanders at the time. He is the wee guy in the light shirt in some of the pics. I think they were taken in 1971

    Snow

10 miles south of Edinburgh. We are usually lucky to get 2 inches of snow. That was exceptional.
  20. Flamethrower: I think they were made by Ronson, which is a bit ironic as that was the nickname the soldiers gave to the Sherman
  21. Hi John, good to hear from you, yes there was a bit more rot than I thought. Some had been hidden by the careful application of body filler. The passenger side is now nearly finished, a couple of more days work should be enough to see it done. I'll stick up some more pics when I have them. Cheers, Davie.

    Snow

Here's one of my 90 about eight years ago. This is on the road to my house, as you can see we were well snowed in for a few days.
  23. Napalm delivered by bats???????? Absolutely bizzarre! You couldn't make some of this stuff up in your wildest dreams.
