There is one smaaaaal problem! The Gendarme's carry BIG guns, and have major sense of humour faliure over un licensed metal detectors. As for getting said licence, easier to walk back acros sthe Channel. :-D
Mind you go digging in some of the lcocal barns! Oddles of lovley stuff, including my two 1943 dated jerry cans that are sand colourd (And always have been)
Also when they catch you they will confiscate your car and any artefacts fine you etc. when released you have to make your own way home.......on foot.
Many years ago tried to warn a guy as he was dragging a vickers on its stand back to his car in full view of the local police as soon as he managed to get it into his van they pounced.

Would anyone know how much a nice (1936 i think) Hitler youth drum would be valued at ?...
Hi,
if it is one of the small red and white side drums (carried on a hanger from the belt) one has recently sold on the war relics forum priced @ $435.

Hi all
here is one of my recently purchased 1947 Mercury Roadster built in Birmingham and used as a barrack bike hard work pedalling and even harder to stop with the brakes
These cycles usually have the VEH serial number stamped on the frame stem below the saddle.
For info you may just have to search the cycle collectors forums to gleam the odd bit of info.
Wo2a, just check out your local carboot sale this is the most likley place to accquire an origonal

PS anyone here have a carrier, kit, MK2 front (Lucas cyclo n010) ??

welcome Herbert,
to the friendly forum, i remember Osnabruck well (1968 1973) lived in Dodesheide
Ashley
Hey folks,I'am Herbert from Germany, 39 years, ex-sergeant (german paratroopers) and joined this forum because I'am "obsessed" with british military kit from the 60s to the early 80s (might be based on the fact that I grew up in Osnabrück, surrounded by the BAOR ).
Well I'am also interested in Armstrong Davidson MT500 and "Harley" Davidson MT350E bikes, but I don't call a historic vehicle my own so far .
I guess that's about it....

Yes thanks guys! My wife showed me how much I don't know about computers :red: Iam going back to my cave now and beat a mammoth to death
Thats not nice ! the mammoth was a fine looking post war truck though i belive it was never used by the military.

Hi,
i have always belived this to be the case and was still being used in the seventies but as for the name ?
Ashley
Looking at several pictures of wartime Opel Blitz trucks, there is a forward pointing warning tringle mounted on the cab roof. Am I correct in assuming that this triangle would be raised if a trailer was being towed by that vehicle and would be lowered if the vehicle was operating without a trailer? Also, is there a name for the warning triangle?Nick.

The "Henschel" turreted version came from Shrivenham and yes, they took out its guts (Reports of it being engineless in the 1990s). I have a vague memory that the silly buggers junked them not long before the idea that perhaps Bov would like it (back?).
The V2 donated its engine to get the Tiger 1 running?
I'd guess there's no realistic chance of getting either running, especially with the costs of getting & keeping the Tiger 1 trundling around. There's only so much rattling of the collection box that any museum can do.
We'll have to wait for Wheatcroft to do his magic with 50 tons of bits and a bit of gaffer tape.
I remember the museum at shrivenham holding an open day to restore the machine and intrested parties paid approx £3.00 in advance for entry........ only to be told that the visit had been cancelled on arrival at he camp

Hi MB89,
the size may be of a deterrant but on my german ww2 leather liners i usually apply very sparingly Vasaline to the leather and rub in to material. some times the leather may darken if you are heavy handed ......but returns to its natural fairly quickly.

cripes,
i hope no one finds my old school books the old "dub dee" arrow was a favorite piece of graffitti.
Ashley
Similar to hallmarks, it is currently a criminal offence to reproduce the broad arrow without authority. The Embezzlement of Public Stores Act 1698 in clause 41 makes it illegal to use the "broad arrow / King's mark" on any goods not for His Majesty's government's use.this website deals with glass bottles as used by the navy in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
I'm interested to know if the Broad arrow Act is still in force and otherwise the implications for using it on restored items. The stocks, a hanging and quartering perhaps?

Hi,
is the chap on the right wearing leather trousers ? and the two on the left are wearing a much lighter in colour than the right hand chap.
Question........ like the german army of WW2 did thier WW1 counterparts have an off white fatigue/work uniform ??
Ashley
Its going to the Riverside rally in Southport under new ownership. 16-17 April. There was a rather nice Crossley there last year , also out Marshall.
Its currenty having some TLC in a shed in Banks. It may even be in steam tommorrow.
Hob nail boots are no good on a steamer, the manstand and steps ect are all steel plate, studded boots would soon have you in hospital with a broken leg!
Richard, what a fabulous photo that lower one is!. I take it that the uniform would be Khaki?
The wagons in the top photo are by Clayton & Shuttleworth.
