Hobby
:- something for pleasure (Oxford Dictionary) PLEASURE being the operative word, though i have always been in contact with military vehicles other hobbies have taken precedencebut these have like Jack suggested have fallen by the wayside due to escalating costs and the ever increasing influx of reproductions mainly in the German militaria market, you would not believe the amount of money some people part with for worth less rubbish...literally i have seen it, have had to walk away, and when shown the item at a later date i have voiced my doubts accused of sour grapes :banghead: :banghead:
Fuel prices must be taken into consideration when deciding what show to attend especially in areas where there are few really local shows and long distance / large vehicles with low MPG have to be taken into account and i confess wit out my trailer i would not take my jeep to Beltring.
Anyways off to e-bay to try and find some cheap German Iron Crosses.... :-D :-D

Hi all,
until recently the army was quite often seen carrying out driver training through the town center of Bournemouth, and Boscombe.
It appears quite often that accidents happen with military driver training, also quite recently an (experimental ??) Challenger 2 fell off its trailer just outside of Ringwood on the St. Leonard's road. Luckily no one was injured

Here's a picture of the axle data plate on my trailer.

Hi Steve,
if it is a Dutch built trailer does this mean that the axle's are German, in accordance with the makers plate as shown??

Enigma, or can I call you Doomed?
I have met Mrs Beckett, She is a charming women when she's sober; which is often (but don't mention Paul Daniels). I think you've more or less set yourself up as Dead Man Walking after your piece of advice. I'd suggest running to the hills, but you live in the Netherlands, so you might need that little motorcycle of yours to get across a suitable border....
and oh yeah better paint yourself a camouflage helmet to hide up somewhere....
(we need a firing squad set of smilies)

Luckily it came with Two bar tread tyres, may fit them, may keep them for the jeep. Also it has a canvas cover as well as the vinyl one but has the shorter lunette which can make reversing more difficult. When it stops raining i will get some practice in.

Now I am trying to whip up some sympathy here from my fellow members as things just don't add up.
I have one military vehicle but my good lady has two horses...in fact she has three as she hasn't long bought a Shire foal which cost more than my GMC!
Surely, it is only fair that I should buy the Ward - isn't it :naughty: :naughty: :flower:
Come on Jack,
speak to the real boss of the house and put her straight  ........ if one of the horses gets bogged down (has been a tad wet lately) you will need a WLF to lift it out of the mire.
It could potentially save a gee gee `s life so`s to speak   If not go for the no seven set and buy yourself a m/cycle to show her who`s boss.
(BUT DON`T TELL HER IT WAS MY IDEA)

Interestingly and as we know - the Jerry can was named after we found them discarded in North Africa by the Jerry's........but were in fact an Italian concept.
Strange i did not know that the HF`s came from Africa :-D :-D
Joking aside... there was an uproar several years ago when it was believed that the German government was trying to claim copyright payments from the Allied governments for using their ideas with out permission :schocked:
But from what i can gather they were trying to patent the rubber seal in the cap because due to wartime shortages, these were made by using the resin from crushed cherry pips
rather than rubber. I belive the germans nicknamed them `cherry cans` the Allies chaned this to `jerry cans`

Whats the difference, between wartime and p/war jeep trailers, then Ashley ??
Hi,
not exactly an expert .....but some minor differences are which have been explained to me are -:
This trailer has three `hood` bows for the trailer cover to stretch across (normally a vinyl cover) the bows are slotted in to brackets welded to jeep sides (internally),
The rear lights are fixed to the bottom of trailer body, mine have been raised and they can be 6, 12 or 24 volt
The rear panel should not have two areas (read depressions) on it,
The Axel should be round, on mine is square (as in box section).
I believe the suspension units are vertical as opposed to being at 45% from the Axel to the body,
The French ones have a shorter towing eye ?,
These are very basic differences for the French trailers them selves were modified/ changed over the years to include the correct number of vertical depressions on the sides.
Also not evident in the photos the wheel hubs have maker name stamped on the (also seen on rear of trailer)
I know there are more, others feel free to to add / correct above info

Hi all,
though not strictly an American vehicle but i have crossed into PW territory :shake: :shake:
As jeep WW2 jeep trailers are fairly pricey i have gone and purchased a ...... Hotchkiss trailer, though the previous owner has americanised it it is i believe quite an early one :dunno: and is finished in a two tone camo.

American to British
in I may be stupid, but......
Posted
Hi all,
the easiest way was that British vehicles had Divisional, regimental,Corps insignia on them. Also believe most of the British vehicles (as in jeeps) removed the pioneer tools.
The side lights were moved to the wings, and probally had canvas buckets in the rear pintle hook :-D :-D
