  1. Yes thanks! Cidre is a great sleeping draft. As you know my sleep was disturbed on night! Normandy is a great place, just don't call a Normande , French- they get upset. I finally got Katy back on the beach after 70 years, and collected some sand. .
  2. I have the greatest respect for the Gendarmarie in Normandy. I have to say every dealing I've had with them has always been amiable and proffesional. Though I have to say from the comments of our hosts this Gendarme was 'One of they Bl**dy southern lot. Bringing thier city ways up 'ere. The mayor will soon put him straight.' (Very much the sanitised version!:-D)
  3. There was one problem in our area with a Gendarme. He decided tha A Jeep could not go down onto the beach. After the intervention of the local Mayor, the problem disappeared! :-D
  4. For some reason the picture of a van with the letter's Royal Navy in white about 2 inch high on each side comes to mind. The vehicles were quite plain compared to Army and Air Force ones. (We were more proud of our Grey Floaty things, colequailly known as 'Her Majesty's War Canoes :-D)
  5. Seeing that brings back some memories! All now needed the lettering.:-D
  6. Or get an electronic ignition? Worth the money for reliability, especially on a long trip.
  7. Thanks. The one from Birmingham came through 5w 6 volt. So I now have dashboard bulbs that allow me to see the instruments! :-D
  8. And cheaper, the earlier you book, even the day before the cheaper. AND if you can't travel and let them know within 24 hours of your booking, they will let travel another day! Also the price per vehicle includes up to NINE passengers. Toilets leave a bit to be desired, but hey only 35 minutes! AND if you turn up early or late, they don't much care! They'll fit you on the next train available. I have had a number of spur of the moment days out via the Chunnel. Though I have to declare Ashford is only an hour down the road from me.
  9. Not MVT, but the ferry company have been doing some very odd things. Like booking a foot passenger as the third passenger on a two seat vehicle, then wanting £75 to change thier mistake. Fortunatley I had a spare seat so he came in Katy. Next time I'm going by Chunnel and driving down!
  10. There is a phone by the side of unmanned crossings for animals and abnormal loads.
  11. I was told by an old gent that Dodges were used in India and Far East for non military goverment purposes. He was a Vetinary officer on the Northwest Frontier as it then was. He told me a lovley story about using a Dodge up there.
  12. it is a 3/4 ton. These also had official pictures, from the same batch as the VC, note the Mickey Mouse.
  13. The local Lidil was doing fibre cams for about £60 a few weeks back! :-D Missed them unfortunatley.
  14. There are official pictures of the 1/2 ton command car.
  15. Gordon M or the Dodge forum might be the answer. Gordon would know of any tricks, or someone on the specalist forum. http://forum.ww2dodge.com/ Found this, may help.
  16. A cheap spark gap that fits between the plug and lead is ideal for showing if there is a spark.
