1. Hi Ferg. It's true that the WD bikes have become my big passion! But I still have other WD vehicles and often revisit them when the odd correct part comes along or there's something from a previous restoration that is not to my satisfaction.

For instance though a bit off topic. Last year I made this reproduction switch board for my Wireless Morris. It was a fascinating exercise swapping information and dimensions from Canada and Australia and hunting out the gauges and switches. Ron

Yes amazing reproduction... but we know where there's a real one don't we Ron..... but they will not part with it, even though it does not fit in their collection !! :argh::argh::argh:

  2. The floor is now welded in, which just left the small patch to do. The patch needed to match the cut off ends of the rotted floor ribs so after welding a flat patch in I heated it up and gently tapped the profile of the ribs in where required. Needs a little more dressing with a hammer and dolly but I can't access it properly in this position so I will finish it off when I can turn the chassis on its side. A few heat shrinks were required also to pull the front area of the floor into better shape and there are just a few welds to grind up.

Excuse my lack of knowledge...just wondered how the "few heat shrinks" thing works ? I thought heat expanded and distorted metal ??? would love to learn the skills you have....amazing !!!

  3. Great day at Stoneleigh, not much in the way of mw parts but there's not much on my wanted list now :-D great to meet up with lots of fellow mw owners as usual.

  4. been messed about by an archeology guy from a local uni who offered to help and then after xmas has dropped off the radar and doesn't reply to emails or texts, i don't know if he had a reason but a simple reply would have helped.

anyway i've arranged to hire a proton magnetometer and i'm going down on saturday with my labourers to do the survey and maybe dig a testpit over the covenanter

Good luck with that !!! remember.... pictures please !!!! :cool2:

  5. I understand from talking to a dating officer of a classic motorcycle club that the DVLA have a new classification of vehicle called "Reconstituted Classic"...anyone know what this is all about ? is it diffent from historic vehicle ? ..how does it affect mot and road tax status...is it a Q plate ...any comments please. Thanks

  6. My apologies for miss naming that computer game. As I said I know nothing about it, but I've heard there is an improved game? Also thanks for the heads up on the other remaining Tigers...... I only have a passing interest in the subject as I don't own one Ha Ha! But I have a long standing association with Bovy and it's right on my doorstep. Ron

Blimey Ron ...It must be cold in the garage...Velo gear changes and now Tigers ????? Where are you going to put one ??? Don't tell me.... you have acquired more of the neighbours gardens !!!!

    Andy

    :-)

  7.

DO NOT DRILL OUT THE TWO PEGS HOLDING THE GEAR LEVER INTO THE GEAR BOX TOP OVER .......there is no need to do this......the spherical tin shield is held in place with a bayonet fitting type arrangement......the tin shield will press down( there is a spring under the tin shield) and rotate and come out like a bayonet light bulb fitting !!!!!!!

Your gears look in fantastic condition ....way better than mine....

I may have in the shed a spare cover for the flywheel that you seem to be missing if your interested and windscreen parts ?

    Regards Andy

  8. Had a look at the starter motor. The On/Off switch was jammed, now all free so ready for testing

    Brought the gearbox inside...

It doesn’t have an air compressor fitted. Will need to look for one as I think it should be fitted, but it will run without one.

The box had no oil in it  and must have been subjected to a bit of damp a bit of damp. So the Yokes wouldn’t move on the shafts

And the gears in the box would not slide up the splined shafts.

Plenty of penetrating oil and a gentle bit of persuasion, all are now free. There is minimal corrosion on the gears and they don’t look too bad (have seen a lot worse). The yoke rods have all been cleaned up although there is some visible corrosion on these, the yokes now slide freely and if kept well oiled and use should be OK.

Only one yoke is significantly worn

The gear selector trap is worn. I am considering drilling out the rivets that hold the trap and replacing them with set screws (as it will be easier ro clean and refurb if necessary)

likewise the two pegs (think that these are just bashed in) that hold the ball of the stick in place

I will re-assemble over the week end and check all gears can be selected. I will then re-strip the box, replace the bearings if necessary.

DO NOT DRILL OUT THE TWO PEGS HOLDING THE GEAR LEVER INTO THE GEAR BOX TOP OVER .......there is no need to do this......the spherical tin shield is held in place with a bayonet fitting type arrangement......the tin shield will press down( there is a spring under the tin shield) and rotate and come out like a light bayonet light bulb fitting !!!!!!!

    Regards Andy

  9. Hi All

Still working through the parts on my 3HW and have some more questions, if anyone has an answer or opinion I would be glad to hear from you.

What type of pillion seat would have been fitted from the factory?

Where can I get the press stud fastener that goes on the pannier frames to attach the pannier to, I have one missing?

    Steve

I could do with some of those press studs as well ,so would be interested to know...Ron Pier got any suggestions? :-)

    Andy B

  10. Ha Ha Niels! An MP on a C10? How would he ever catch anyone?

But I'll start a thread anyway. Ron

Good man Ron .Its always interesting to see how a restoration is proceeding. Based on your usual rate of work I look forward to seeing it completed when we come to Poole and see you in May this year! ;)
