  1. Hey Clive, where's this photo you promised me ? Position No 71 is still open for you
  2. Ken, intially I thought that about No 135, but 437TCG is a unit number I have now seen on several trucks. Good suggestion about the European sites. It's a bit like a detective puzzle. I keep adding pictures of vehicles to those already logged if it provides something else of interest to look at, or is simply a better photograph. Could do with more engine photos. Kind regards Ian
  3. Guys I seem to have a lot of play in the water pump bearing. There is quite a ‘wobble/rock’ in the hub that the fan blades attach to. No fluid loss as yet. I’m contemplating getting ahead of the problem here and replacing it. I have two questions for your kind consideration: 1. Should I try and get it repaired, or would I be better of getting a part ex recon one from Rex Ward for £ 102 ? 2. The instructions (below) look straightforward, is there anything in particular to watch for ? Kind regards to all Vulture b. Removal. (1) DRAIN SYSTEM AND REMOVE FAN AND DRIVE BELT. Remove radiator cap; then open radiator and cylinder block drain cocks and allow cooling system to drain. Remove four fan to water pump cap screws and remove fan blades. Remove drive belt (par.108). (2) REMOVE PUMP CONNECTIONS. Loosen radiator outlet pipe to water pump hose clamp screw at water pump and remove hose from water pump. Loosen water by-pass elbow hose clamp screws, and loosen hose [(GM-2137582) G501-02-17816] from elbow. (3) REMOVE PUMP. Remove four water pump to cylinder block cap screws (fig. 102). Remove pump [(GM-2103002) G85-11-01740] and gasket [(GM-838137) G85-11-00960] from vehicle. (4) REMOVE BY-PASS ELBOW. Unscrew water by-pass elbow from water pump for installation in replacement pump. c. Installation. (1) INSTALL BY-PASS ELBOW. Screw water by-pass elbow tightly into water pump. Coat threads of elbow with anti-seize compound, mica base. (2) INSTALL PUMP ON ENGINE. Place a new water pump to cylinder block gasket in position, then place water pump in position on engine, directing inlet elbow into hose. Install one 17/s-inch cap screw with lock washer in water pump bolt hole just above water inlet and tighten finger-tight. Then install remaining three cap screws with lock washers (fig. 102), assembling fuel and oil lines clip and generator adjusting arm. Tighten all four cap screws evenly and firmly. (3) INSTALL PUMP CONNECTIONS. Tighten water by-pass elbow hose clamp screws. Install radiator outlet pipe to water pump inlet and tighten hose clamp screws. (4) INSTALL FAN AND DRIVE BELT AND FILL SYSTEM. Install and adjust belt (par. 108). Position fan blades on water pump hub with straight edge of blades toward radiator-curved edges toward engine. This will position fan so notches in blades will provide clearance with crankshaft balancer. Install four cap screws (fan to water pump) with lock washers and tighten firmly. Close radiator and cylinder block drain cocks, then fill system (par. 17).
  4. Ken Good spot !!! I had missed that. Which means..... I already have that vehicle !!! LOL I've consolidated into No 125. I'm trawling through the HMVF and Flick sites at the moment. My guess is I'll top out at around the 200 mark..... Ian
  5. Thought I’d confirm that the Area road-run is still going ahead on Sun 16th Sep. Starting near Kings-Ripton the plan is to visit RAF Glatton where the mighty 457th Bombardment Group (H) of the U.S. Army Eight Air Force operated in 1944-45. Virtually no buildings are left from what was a huge airfield complex, however one runway is still in use as Peterborough airport. I have negotiated with the airfield management access (albeit limited) onto the site for a photo op. As part of this visit we intend to stop and pay our respects at the local memorial to the 86 B-17s and 739 airmen who were KIA, MIA or POWs. The run will end as planned at the Ramsey Militia Camp were the site custodians have kindly agreed to open the NAAFI to provide warming cups of tea and coffee.
  6. Hi Rosie I've embedded a couple of yr U-Tubes vids to make it more interesting http://cckwphotoblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/cckw-352-lfo273.html Kind regards Vulture
  7. Degsy Yeah don't worry about duplicates, just send me what you have, when you have a spare moment
  8. Degsy That would be great, the more vehicles on the blog the better I will of course ensure you are credited against those included Kind regards Ian
  9. Hi Ken Yep, I've bust the 100 ! :yay: There were about 10 there, some we already have in the collection, so I've added extra photos where appropriate
  10. Off to the Cosby show tommorrow armed with my camera and a mission to get good shots of every CCKW there
  11. Hi Pete That would be great. Jpg's work for me :-D Cheers Vulture
  12. Clive, I've reserved you a spot at No 71 :nut:
  13. Guys I appear to have inadvertently included a couple of Chevrolets  A question.... should I a) Expand the title to include them as well, or b) Set up a separate blog for them ? Your considered thoughts would be appreciated Kind regards to all Vulture
  14. Cheers Pete 51 vehicles logged, thus far, with a further bunch from Ken Clay to add !
  15. Deadline you make some fair points about how it could be improved. I will try over time to incorporate additional information as and when it becomes available. At the moment I've uploaded most of the useful photos I have, and am now adding to it from Ken Clays collection that he has kindly E-Mailed me.
  16. I have no intention of commenting on or passing judgement on the condition of any of the vehicles, as I'm just doing this for a bit of fun. As regard the number of photos per vehicle, whilst it would be good to have lots, I currently don't have the time to manage and maintain and publish too large a collection. We will have to see how it develops over time. That said in future I will definitely take more photos of each vehicle including the engine where possible. I know you didn't like Mr Doyle's book, however the challenge before you is clear I would have thought, and that is to produce a definitive work on the subject, be that as a book, or as something on the web. If time is an issue I would have thought a web site which you could slowly develop would be a good idea. That said books are nice, and I for one would certainly buy one if you produced one. I've been corresponding with another photographer who has a large collection of CCKW photos. Hopefully we can work something out and I can incorporate his in as well which should take the number from the current 40 up to around 70 I think. Kind regards Vulture
  17. Now I've logged on the blog all the trucks I've spotted, I've decided to expand the scope and to use it as an archive / photo register for CCKWs in the UK So if your a CCKW owner and would like your truck added, send me a couple of photos (my E-Mail address is: vulture.cm@dsl.pipex.com) saying where and when they were taken, and by whom. Confirm the registration number, stencilled serial number and month and year of manufacture (if known). Kind regards to all Vulture
  18. N.O.S. There is a little story behind this blog, which was a desire to track down the owner of 353 that I met at the Ramsey 1940 show in 2010. I had liked the CCKW for years (since my trip to Normandy in Jun 2004) but had persuaded myself (or was using it as the excuse) that it was not a good idea to get one as it would deteriorate parked on my drive in all weathers. Anyway, I got talking to this guy at Ramsey and his truck looked great and he kept it outside. That conversation stuck with me and planted a seed which eventually ended just under a year later with me getting mine. I felt sure I must have come across the truck since, so I started the blog as a bit of fun as a method of organising my collection. I have a bunch more photos of many of the trucks but have just included the best or most interesting photos at each location they have been spotted. In the end I tracked the truck down Link Given the interest the blog has sparked I might take it further.... I shall post my thoughts on this idea separately. Kind regards Vulture
  19. Thanks Clive and Joris. I'm hoping to make it up to the Victory Show (Crosby) in Sep so I should get a few more photos to add to the collection there. Organising them like this has focused my thoughts on the fact that I could do with at least 2 photos of each vehicle I take, and for ident purposes the Registration number. Now wish I'd take a bunch more at Duxford this year, as their must have been at least another 4 trucks I didn't photograph. Kind regards Vulture
