  1. Mick, To remove a bevel box (you can guess what I'm about to say....) you need to remove the wheel station. However, if you look at my photo for a bevel box you will see it is basikly 3 main parts. The casing, a large bevel gear and a smaller one. You are lucky in that you can replace the seal without taking the bevel box to bits. It will be quite fiddly. If you do remove the small bevel gear bearing housing be aware that there are a number of shims to get the correct contact between the two bevels. These same shims will have to be repaced undamaged. http://www.livesteammodels.co.uk/adj/DSC00032.jpg[/img]
  2. Hahahahahaha  all one unit!!!!!!! Been there tried it, it doesn?t work. First remove back plate and radiator. Empty fuel tank, disconnect pull forward toward driver compartment as far as it will go. Better if you can remove it completely. Next, unbolt engine from gearbox. Sort out your engine removal/lifting equipment. Unbolt the plate that holds the front of the engine and oil take together. Attach lifting equipment, lift and remove. A days work taking it steady. A few photos for you from when I did mine in 2002. http://www.livesteammodels.co.uk/adj/DSCF0016.JPG[/img] http://www.livesteammodels.co.uk/adj/DSCF0017.JPG[/img] http://www.livesteammodels.co.uk/adj/DSCF0018.JPG[/img]
  3. CD arrived this morning. Thankyou very much. Exalent photos. Andy
  4. Hi, I put EP90 in my steering gear, still works and should not do any harm. The Gear box has the same oil as the engine, SAE30. All the bevel boxes, outer reduction hubs and transfere box have EP90. Check the oil in your hydrolic pump/air compresser whail your at it, its easly forgoten about. That takes engine oil as well.
  5. Chris, your eyes are bigger than your wallet :schocked: I can rent you some of my field again
  6. I already have three of them plus a Ferret :-D There are lots more I would love to own. But 4 is quite a handfull to keep maintained and safe to run. Appart from the cost as well
  7. Arrr it may not be designed too, but can it? The closest thing I can find is an ION powerd thing that could be used to destroy a satalight. :dunno:
  8. with an internal temperature of 3500 deg F producing 1200 psi at the jets, dose it run on steam? Assume it is not controled via radio wave as it seem too early looking at the drawing :dunno:
  9. Hi all, Unfortuatly I wont be able to make it next weekend due to work  I was looking forward to a run out in the Ferret Hope you all have a fun weekend.
  10.   Sad to see those CVR(T)s in such a sad way
  11. Makes my Ferret look cheep to run - 178 miles at approx £84 each may :-)
  12. Thanks for that little bit of info. I've been considering taking mine for a few months now, best get it done very soon.
  13. I had no problems with mine. I had all the scare storys about them being too wide, too heavy, too many wheels... :-o I registed my Saracen Mk6 in August 1995 and the Saladin in July 1997. The Striker had to have an inspection, but that was only so they could see it existed, that was registed in March 2005.
  14. Wait till you get a Saladin and change the runflats on that.............
  15. Thanks for the info, I will fit the rad back next weekend and see what happens.
  16. From Derby to the Dorset Steam Fair is just over 200 miles, as some on this list know my brother and friend have regualy taken eather my Saladin 'and or' Saracen for the week. Even at 4mpg, its still a lot lot cheeper than a low loader. All it takes is 10 hours with stops. Go for it, drive it, it'll be fun :-D
  17. I've been having a bit of bad luck with the radiator in my Saladin of late. Anyway, I think I've managed to repair it so I am in the process of pressure testing it before I put it back for the third time. What I would like to know is what pressure dose the pressure relief valve open at. I have fitted a new one, and the valve opens at 8PSI which seems rather low.
  18. 9 years ago I had to help out with some deliveries :-D http://www.livesteammodels.co.uk/adj/santa.jpg[/img] Andy.
  19. 4 or maybe 5 years ago I went up to Jacksons to look at a Saracen. Whaile I was there I got talking to the guy showing me arround and asked if they had any spares for CVRT as was ready to start on my Striker. They happend to have a Striker which I was alloud to have a look round though not to photogarph Anyway, we went into a shed and I was amazed at how much Ferret stuff they had so asked if they were interested in selling spares as mine was in thousands of bits. Yes, just send a fax and they will sort me out what ever bits I require. So, a few days later I faxed them. A couple of days later I phoned, they had the fax but not had time to look at it. A week later phoned and they still had not had time to look at it. So I faxed my list to Banister who rang me ten minutes later to tell me he had almost everything and pointed out that he'd had the same list in the same order from Jacksons a week ago................................ :dunno:

  21. Mick, Try checking the circumference of the tyres, if there is more than a couple of inch's between them a lot of power will be taken as one or more will be wanting to cover a grater or lesser distance than the rest. I had a similar problem with my Saladin when I first got it on the road, 1 tyre was 11.00 x 20, the other 5 were 12.00's Took us over week to realise, then it became obvious why there was a black tyre mark on all the roads we’d driven along
