    Looks like a Bofors brush. What size is it? An numbers indicate Bofors and mine is made by Addis too.

    I think friction tape is the old type of insulating tape with a fabric weave that holds by friction as much as adhesion. Yes, paulin is a tarpaulin. That reminds me of a day on Fury when Shia Labeouf was studiously reading the Sherman crew drill to make sure he got it right and the same word stumped him. 'What the hell is a paulin?' he asked me. I told him a tarpaulin but he was still lost, I then described it as a tank sheet and he said 'Oh, a tarp! Why the hell didn't you say so?'

    The Scout car front stowage box is quite shallow and I don't think you could close the lid if it had batteries in it.

    Dozer is a Cat D4 with LaPlante Choate hydraulic angle dozer kit and LeTourneau pcu for operating a scraper box.

    They are very good books but a little dry at times. That said, they are a technical history of each tank and anecdotal humour has no place in such a book!

    Correct. I have the remains of one. It's mainly the centre but shows the construction OK. I'll try to get it out of the stillage and take some pics. It's not solid per se, as it is webbed and relatively thin which made them vulnerable to damage.

    They are not flat wheel covers, those are the cast aluminium wheels. Unlike the later steel wheels, which are two piece and bolt onto the hub, the alloy wheels are one piece and the hub is an integral part of the whole wheel. It is just a production change, the early Covenanter and Crusader could also be seen with the alloy wheels.

    It's a bit like gazing at clouds or an ink blob test...... I wouldn't have a clue what that formation sign is, it could well be a maple leaf.

    Whilst I know next to nothing about the drop cages, I would say that a small proportion of the one at Malvern was fairly new.

    It's not a feature per se, just a part of the tank equipment, CES in today's terms. It fastens to the glacis plate at the top edge and presumably can be folded up for use or down as shown in your picture. It's not armoured glass, just laminated for safety and has a wiper and demister. Shermans have them too but they are either fitted or not, there is no facility to fold them down.

    Yes, M5A1 but known as Stuart VI in British service. The drivers screen and hood was a standard part of the equipment, known as approach hood in British parlance.
