  1. Plenty of MVs used by air forces, tankers, staff cars, bomb loaders. Was watching old black and white film yesterday "An appointment in London", wartimebased. Spent an hour or so spotting lots of , Humbers, Bedford QL's (I think), Austin K2's, Austin Tillys etc etc.
  2. Nice pic. Interesting to see bridge plate over headlight. Can anyone shed light on the numbers on the engine cover?
  3. Good work going on there, keep it up. Good to see another Brit vehicle being restored.
  4. I thought the aeriel recce shot of the dead washed up on the beach like seaweed as the tide goes out was very moving, but as everyone says there was more to D Day than Omaha beach...
  5. Nice one and all the best! Our 2 year old daughter learnt how to say "tank" while watching The Battle of the Bulge today on TV. You have all that to look forward too!Next sprog due in 4 weeks. ;-)
  6. If you are looking to acquire the others, try http://www.abebooks.co.uk , its a great source of rare and unusual, new and used books.
  7. The original metal body on my C8 was held off the chassis by 4 metal box sections, which then attached to 2 sections running lengthways under the back body, if that helps?
  8. You just dont try hard enough mate! ;-)
  9. 3 pics from Antwerp 1944, one from Nieuport, street signs should all have the same font in Netherlands I believe. 13. Following on from the Sherman MLR thread Ive done a bit of delving into the photo archives and found this vehicle which I was unfamiliar with and thought I would share. Panzerwerfer 42. SdKfz 4/1, produced1942-45, 3.6 litre engine, 6 cylinder by Opel. 150mm rockets in a 16 round magazine. Heavily used in the Ardennes offensive. Feel free to add comments/pics. http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/rik242_2006/panzer_werfer_1.jpg[/img] These 2 seem to be mounted on a different vehicle, any ideas? http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/rik242_2006/werfer-3.jpg[/img] http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/rik242_2006/werfer-1.jpg[/img]
  14. Available online are some D Day aeriel recconaissance photos. There is just a few samplers as I think you have to pay for any serious ones! But worth a quick look to kill a bit of time! http://www.evidenceincamera.co.uk/exhibits/
  15. Experiences of an English Soldier. William Henry Bonser Lamin 9th Battalion York and Lancs BEF Italy Its a day to day blog of a real soldier. The letters home that he sent , replies and the company war diaries. The timing is day to day as it was at that time, and the letters are being posted up on the website as and when they were written. Take a look, its only just begun and is running until the end of the year. The big question is, does he live or does he die... http://www.wwar1.blogspot.com/
  16. We refer to them as the "Taliban Taxi".. ;-)
  17. Yes, some bloke holding his zippo lighter at arms length, eyes shut.....
  18. Calliope seems to be a generic name given to anything that uses this sort of multiple launch system. The name comes from music organ pipes, as you would find in a church! http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/rik242_2006/m4_shermand.jpg[/img] http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/rik242_2006/calliope_02.jpg[/img]
  19. Toyotas go on for years. Had Hi-Lux, MR2's for many years until the familly popped out! Very rarely fail the MOT, especially not on rust. Import models have very low mileage and are a good buy. Regular servicing, parts easily available.
  20. The CMP has many different forms and little mentioned on here. Interesting change of headlights though. Why was that?
  21. I spend more time than I should on here! Like to suggest a couple more sections. More will come to mind as I thinkof them! Relatives page. If anyone is looking for any info on a relative or particular unit, or help in tracing them. Under new management . Speaks for itself. Vehicles used by others than they were intended. WW1 vehicles. Vast subject, Ive only touched on and had interest myself recently. Listings. TV or radio programmes that may be of interest.
  22. Very deep searches on the interweb thingy. Look up one thing, that leads to another and another etc, I should be working really, but my job allows the use of the www in the background for the quieter moments!
  23. I have heard you need the excercise Tim! Was it just the 752 Battalion that worked with these or were they issued to the other units?
  24. BBC2 Sunday January 6th 9 pm. Richard Hammond on Bloody Omaha. Richard Hammond tells the true story of the D Day landings at Omaha Beach. Widely regarded as a victory the landing was very nearly a disaster. (Why Omaha and not the other beaches I dont know)
  25. Im sure they arent homes for racing pigeons, but they look similar. I assume they are MLR layunchers. Ive never seen them before, certainly not WW2 european theatre, but sure Ive seen something for the pacific. Can anyone educate me on these? http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o72/rik242_2006/Shermans-1.jpg[/img]
