  2. years ago when Chris Wilkinson had a yard in St Albans there were 2 sitting minus many parts rusting away in the undergrowth does anyone else remember them
  3. the group I am refering to are listed as being at Beltring but I asked many different groups and nobody could help locate them and being as I was only there fo 1 day I could not spend too much time searching Nigel
  4. I am a member of the MVT but after speaking to the area secretary for Herts it appears they do not hold regular meetings simply meet up to drive to the occasional show so I was wondering if there were any other groups in the Herts/Bucks area that do meet regularly.I have heard of a group called the Gerrards Cross Military Vehicle Group but cannot find any contact details, can anyone help Nigel
  5. I did W&P in 1 day on thursday and found the stalls to be a little down on quqlity and up on car boot/market type stalls but then again I got several things I had been after for a while so they cant have been too bad. The trouble is now thursday seems a while ago and I want to go again
  6. does ces kit apply to all vehicles ?even motorcycles? Nigel
  7. This is an excellent idea and perhaps one that could continue at a local level on armastice day thanks Nigel
  8. just read this months cmv feature on a road legal live firing T34 and it is owned and driven by a serving police officer who in the article quotes the relevent regulaions ,so there you have it from the horses mouth
  9. When did the ces system start ? as I only ever see reference to it re later vehicles Nigel
  10. Dont know if it is of any help to you but when I was at Beltring on thursday I saw an excellent new book on carriers for sale by the author ,it was the first of 3 volumes and included loads of original factory drawings etc.It was £30 for a signed copy and was for sale in the re-enactors field at the arena end on a display that included 4 carriers Nigel
  11. Not the only one ,stood next to it was a Dodge straight six Nigel
  12. When I was in Guernsey last year I had organised a visit to Mirus with 2 chaps from the CIOS who showed my father my 8 year old daughter and myself around 3 of the 4 sites and on return to our hotel in the evening I got talking to a local enthusiast called Lee who told me he had some pictures of the guns being removed by a local company (John Upham).Sure enough the very next evening he showed up in the hotel bar with the pictures . what made this event evev more surprising is that later in the evening he asked where I was from and I told him it turned out during the 1950s he worked in Watford which is only a couple of miles from where I live and in fact lodged in a house in the next street to an aunt of mine.
  13. Tony just taken a look at your picture in the intro section and realised I recognise the ambulance,I saw it at a school fete in a park in St Helier ( Victoria Park?)before the Inn on the park was demolished I seem to remember a very good display of kit in the back.
  14. Had a quick look through some books sunday evening but can find no mention of AA gun on the roof at St Peters so will have to keep searching. Also I did not realise Ian Cabot had St Peters bunker I thought it was always Richard Maynes but that is probably because a mention of it in the Channel Islands Occupation then and now states this ,but then again my copy is dated 1979.Does Ian still lease the bunker but not use it?I suppose the flooding must have been due to the car park of the motor museum sloping towards the bunker!
  15. Tony I will look at that Jersey tourism site,as for the AA gun on the hotel roof it rings a bell but I will have to look through some books to see what I can find we will probably stay in St Peters later this year at the le Charrieres hotel and I can take a first hand look Nigel
  16. thanks for the reply Tony I should have explained that I have been travelling to Jersey once or twice a year for the last 20 or so years and have been a member of the CIOS for 7or8 years. I agree with you about Ian Cabots museum and have also seen many other bikes and motorcycles as well as militaria at his house when he has been advertising militaria for sale. Over the years I have visited many places and met many interesting people ,I well remember the strawberry farm ,hogue bie bunker and the Island fortress museums not forgetting the excellent St Peters bunker and Jersey motor museum all sadly now closed but have also witnessed the excellent work of the CIOS particularly at Corbiere and Noirmont Point. I hope to return later this year to see what else has happened and the great thing about Jersey is that there is also so much for the rest of the family if they get bored of bunker hunting ,the only problem is every time we go my wife suddenly NEEDS more jewellery!! cheers NIgel
  17. Just checked and Nordian still have a web page stating they are under new management the tel number is 01653 668662 Nigel
  18. try Nordian services they have a website with thier details or the North American motor company in Fleet hope this helps Nigel
  19. electrician by trade been self employed ever since leaving school 26 years ago ,not fried myself yet so I must get most things right,if anyone does organise a fortification trip to Jersey count me in I think I have been to most accessible sights but I could be wrong. Nigel
  20. contact Jersey tourist info in Liberation Square St Helier and ask for the CIOS fortifications leaflet and this will give you a good start on what to see Nigel
  21. good to see another m20 on here ,the most numerous ww2 brit bike and yet at Beltring every year welbikes seem more common I think m20 owners are shy ,good luck with it looks like a good one , Nigel
  22. all seems a bit quiet on here about sunday 17 june show ! anyone else going ? Nigel
  23. does anybody on here have any experience of bsa m20 engine upgrades? what I am aiming for is no external mods and increased pulling power rather than trying to build a racing machine.I beleive it is possible to go up to 600cc by using m21 parts but is it necessary to upgrade the carb etc and is this as far as you can go practically, any advice would be gratefully recieved thanks Nigel
  24. It is indeed possible to visit Mirus battery,I went there myself last year however I would advise anybody wishing to visit to contact the CIOS Guernsey branch for help as 1 gun position is in a school another is used for paintballing the third is on private farmland and the owner is often out shooting rabbits etc and the fourth is on private land and not accessible. I found the CIOS to be very helpful and 2 members showed my father and I 3 of the 4 gun positions one of which they intend to restore in the future Whilst you are in Guernsey you will find many other interesting sites ,look for fort Hommet and the restored fire control tower both of which are linked to the occupation museum in the village of Forest , Nigel
  25. This is indeed an excellent event especially as I only have to travel a mile or so from home to get there ,even my m20 can manage that!.Definately well worth a visit as being in the museum where there is nothing modern you get a real time warp sensation . Last years event was the first and this years promises to be even better with more vehicles/re-enactors present and plenty to see. Nigel
