  1. Hi all, I think everyone who took a turn in holding down the cushion with their vehicle deserves some credit. Good to see HMVF members sharing responsibility like that. I hope to sort out pix later this week - madhouse here back at work - so will post asap befiore we all forget about Beltring 07... Zoomer PS Did anyone 'recover' my black/yellow golf brolly? I think I left it in the arena. Might have been under the cushion, of course...
  2. BRIEF REMINDER (TO THOSE WHO ARENT ALREADY AT BELTRING!) Photo shoot still planned for friday morning. Have had a few PMs, a number of which didnt specifiy what MVs were being brought in so we are gonna have to play it by ear (looking forward to some early morning hungover chaos!) I'm planning to take some pix and hopefully Snapper too, and anyone else is welcome to have a go. I'll bring a ladder, and risk my life for HMVF ... Fingers X'd for ok weather... Phil
  3. ...Ahhhhh....Sussanah Yorke... I'd have let her take cover under me at Biggin Hill.  :kissoncheek: :nut:
  4. Steve - thanks for starting this thread. Great pix and some great background info. Nice follow on from Op. Bolero as well (shame Bolero II wasnt quite as successful!). Alan - you said you werent gonna post any pix up as Steve had covered it, but I say the more the merrier! When I get round to it I'll post up a couple of my more arty-farty efforts for something a bit different. I think I concentrated as much on the gorgeous sky/clouds as the aeroplanes, 'specially saturday... Zoomer
  5. Honours indeed from a pro such as you Snaps (cheque's in the post). Just realised I stuck the other lot in a different thread - meeting logs and photobook. Oooppps. :-D
  6. Hopefully this lot includes everyone in the convoy as it left Hardwick... http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9501.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9502.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9503.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9504.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9505.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9506.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9507.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9508.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9509.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9510.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9511.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9512.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9513.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9514.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9515.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9516.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9517.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9518.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9519.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9520.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9521.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9522.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9523.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9524.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9525.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9526.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9527.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9528.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9529.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9530.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9531.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9532.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9533.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9534.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9535.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9536.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9537.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9538.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9539.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9540.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9541.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9542.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9543.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9544.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9545.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9546.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9547.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9548.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9549.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9550.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9551.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9552.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9553.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9554.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9555.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9556.jpg[/img] http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/9557.jpg[/img] Print 'em all off, stick 'em together end to end, and thats what the convoy looked like! :nut: :thankyou: Thanks to everyone involved in the organising the weekend, and those who took part - on land or in the air! Phil
  7. Back at Parham (wish I'd got there earlier!)... I'll start another thread where there should be a pic of every vehicle as you left Hardwick. Still awake?? Phil
  8. Last few from Hardwick...
  9. On a roll now... btw the slideshows on my website make take a while to load...
  10. Hi all, My post with a couple of links to Bolero pix on my website has got a bit lost within Lee's photo and video record of Bolero, so I thought I'd post the links again for those that missed them, and have a go putting a few pix in the post itself - first time for me so here goes! Horham first... Seems to be working so I'll put a few more on in a mo... Slideshows (with a few more in) are at: http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/bolero1.htm general stuff on saturday. http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/bolero2.htm (hopefully) every vehicle as they left Hardwick.
  11. Shame he didnt look after you from about another 30 seconds - then your deceleration might have been a little less conspicuous...
  12. Dont know wot the wife will have to say about that, Snaps. And isnt it usually something younger? :-D :flower: Couldnt agree more about Bolero, Jack. Would have been nice to get my knees up with you all but the sight wouldnt have been very pleasant...
  13. Keep 'em comin' Lee (and everyone else!). Love the Mustang pass vid. Obviously Lee, we missed each other - but I was only there Saturday and dashing about with Adrian Barrell most of the time - and of course a big thank you Adrian for all his help. It was good to speak to a few HMVF members - more chat and some beer at Beltring I hope!!! As for pix, have put my efforts in a slideshow on my website. First lot - general stuff taken during saturday : http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/bolero1.htm Second lot - (hopefully) every vehicle as they left Hardwick : http://www.depthoffieldimages.co.uk/bolero2.htm Sadly the overhead pics werent as good as hoped for various reasons - mainly the weather and my butterfingers - but they give a good impression of the size of the convoy leaving the hospital at Horham. PM me if there are any dodgy links! Thanks to all those involved in pulling the event together - I hope the Parham show today went well. Phil PS At the end of Bolero1 set - dusk views of some GMCs at Parham , the one at the front seems to be getting ever slooowweeeerrrrrrrrrr...
  14. Jack, Press after-show party??? You must mean our 2 litres of Tesco Value Cider. How do you find out about that?
  15. Mark, As far as I was concerned it was gonna happen at some point, just needed the details worked out. Sorry again that I havent been around to contribute. I already have a couple of PMs of attendees so suggest we plan to go ahead. If you want me to talk to Andy about it then PM me his contact no. (he is used to ordering me about 'on foot' in the arena!) but I imagine as we are to do this AM rather than PM it isnt a huge problem - especially if it means a number of vehicles will be in the arena ready for the tank-mucking-about session... If all who want to be in this could PM with vehicle info then we can draw up a pretty plan - little 'uns at the front and all that. Already have a spot for Snapper's Iltis, just need a 432 to go on top. Phil
  16. Hi all, Have just got back from an extended time away from HMVF so sorry I havent posted any replies. Mark - Thanks for the info on the helis. BUT it seems like the date and time has now been set - for the Arena, 0830 sharp on friday. So who is gonna be there? Please PM me if you want to be in the shot so we can have an idea of nos and types of vehicles - and come up with some fancy arrangement! Phil (zoomer) Royal
  17. Aha... so this is where everyones been ! I have been away for a few days - it looks like most glitches have been ironed out in the meatime - things looking fine from here. Thanks for all your efforts guys. Note : I also havent received any email about the new URL - I just hit the link on the old homepage... Phil
  18. I will take up on your comment, Snapper, and my next brief installment will be done in the style of Hello magazine. I hope it wont detract from the seriousness of the subject matter. Just off to buy a copy... ;-)
  19. Thanks for the vote of confidence oh verbose one. OK, I'll admit I've been copying your style.... :-D
  20. To follow the 'This Day in History Theme' on this Falklands 25th Anniversary thread, I'll put the occasional post up when significant days arrive. I don't intend to post about every event, just a few pivotal moments. Anyone else is welcome to post, to further elaborate on the historical aspects... The first significant date in the Falklands war calendar was March 19th 1982 when the Argentine fleet transport Bahia Buen Suceso arrived in Leith harbour, South Georgia. This served as a catalyst for the imminent hostilities ahead (although in fact the originally Argentine plan was to initiate a full 'recovery' of the Falklands later in the year). Onboard were a scrap recovery team lead by the businessman Constantino Davidoff, who had won a contract from Christian Salvesen to clear scrap from South Georgia. Whilst he had been given permission to land by British Government representatives in Buenos Aires, this was on the basis that he first reported to the islands Magistrate at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) Base at Grytviken. This instruction was not carried out, and instead the team landed at Leith and began work, raising an Argentine Flag and defacing signage in apparent defiance. Their activities were observed by a BAS team the next day and this was reported back to the Falkland Islands Governor Rex Hunt, in Port Stanley. Messages from Port Stanley instructing the Argentines to cease activities, remove flags and report to Grytviken were not followed, and the Bahia Buen Suceso and shore team remained, being observed by BAS personnel for the next couple of days. Meanwhile the only British maritime presence in the area, the Ice Patrol Ship HMS Endurance (ex-danish Anita Dan) had only just left South Georgia en route to Port Stanley for her last visit prior to returning to the UK - for the last time. She continued on to Port Stanley, and took onboard nine marines to supplement her usual small contingent of thriteen before sailing for South Georgia on the 21st March. By the time Endurance arrived back at South Georgia on the 24th, the Bahia Buen Suceso had apparently departed, but the shore team remained at Leith. Some of her marines took over observation of the Argentine team, and she began planned coastal patrol work while inter-governmental negotiations were underway to resolve the situation. The main issue at this point was whether or not the Argentine team were present in a military capacity. They were led by a civilian, but inserted by naval vessel. After the conflict, Davidoff has been reported as stating he was there purely in a commerical capacity, and there was no military involvement. However, considering there were plans for an invasion later in the year, it seems quite reasonable that every assistance was offered to Davidoff by the Argentine military to provoke a reaction, and thereby judge likely resistance from Whitehall if a full invasion were to occur a few months later. Whatever the real intent, the situation changed significantly on the morning of the 25th March 1982 when the naval transport Bahia Paraiso was observed in Leith harbour and a significant contingent of Argentine marines landed, to 'provide protection' to Davidoffs team...
  21. My wife and kids say I can't play my six-string - which is quite true - so maybe this is the way to go... If you got rhythm, who needs chords?
  22. Jim, Cant wait to see your combo on the road/running round an arena! I recall seeing a Stuart behind a Diamond T a few years back somewhere, but it looked a bit lost on the trailer - a Sherman should look the biz! I remain in awe of what some of you guys can bring back from the brink. Should write a book on it...
  23. Tootallmike - In this modern age, I imagine a dating section might not only attract ladies to your big green machines. As for the other suggestions (scrap/salvage/register/films) - wholehearted support from me so consider them seconded/thirded/whatever...
  24. Lee - I thought they brought 2 last year, but only flew one back to Biggin each night.... but that's one less possible fly in the ointment if I'm wrong - hope so.
