  1. On 25th Januar, 2005 I went to the Museum of Army Transport at Beverley to witness the closure for CMV. The army had brought in a transport regiment of Oshkosh transporters and Atkinson METs to take the exhibits in to store. I suppose some have been distributed to other museums and some of the stuff may have been sold or scrapped. I promised ages ago that I'd post up some pix from the closure, and having found the appropriated disk while looking for something else, it's time to blitz you with snaps. There are a lot, so I'll say when we've reached the end and then you can ID stuff or comment. Does that make sense?
  2. We're on. Lee has spoken to Rex. Same rules as last year. Sunday is the best day. MB
  3. There's a Bren gun and a Sten in there somewhere... MB
  4. There is a hardcore of people who go there to steal stuff. Local oiks, gentlemen of the road, people involved in the hobby, all types. Last year I often left my laptop and cameras in my tent while I was out and about. But I think I was reckless. I am not taking an MV this year, so I'll have less of a problem. Did they ever find the chap(s) who nicked the muzzle break off Rex's Panther? In the army we used to put thieves hands in door jams. I saw it done to one bloke. He thoroughly deserved it. MB
  5. Good. I can relate a story concerning my family and Charlton Heston. I am related by marriage to the Grants whisky empire. Anyways - they decided to hold a Highland Games in New York to promote their whiskies and to lure all those plastic jocks across the pond. It worked. But they decided to get Charlton Heston to be grand master of the event and arranged for a snapper to picture him wearing a kilt. "No need" says the great man. "My wife is a photographer - she'll do it". So they delivered the kilt and she took the snaps. Unfortunately he was wearing the kilt back to front! From my cold dead hands....and I bet he put sugar on his porridge, too. MB
  6. No it all makes sense. If it was financially viable to recover a specific number of restorable Shermans and an other kit, then all it takes is a blank cheque book and some intent. There will be a time when these archaeology wallers eschew old pots and dubloons for proper stuff like tanks. Interesting to note that Robert Ballard accidentally found the Titanic while surveying a couple of lost nuclear submarines. MB
  7. Any fool knows Firefox is a book and a film starring Clint Eastwood.
  8. Some timeless words.... 'Salute The Soldier' Hail, soldier, huddled in the rain, Hail, soldier, squelching through the mud, Hail, soldier, sick of dirt and pain, The sight of death, the smell of blood. New men, new weapons, bear the brunt; New slogans gild the ancient game: The infantry are still in front, And mud and dust are much the same. Hail, humble footman, poised to fly Across the West, or any, Wall! Proud, plodding, peerless P.B.I.- The foulest, finest job of all. March 26, 1944 AP Herbert
  9. I hope the driver has a current UK driving licence. He looks a bit under the weather.
  10. Definitely. I feel an HMVF calendar coming on. I'll try to remember to make up disks of all the snaps I've promised people. NB: - if this means you, shout. (118 I haven't forgotten you) MB
  11. Greetings muckers, I will be based in the four star accommodation press area at the Hop Farm from the Sunday onwards. I am hoping I can get around on the pre-show days and snap vehicles and people in a more quiet setting before the big rush starts. We will also be attempting the photoshoot, probably on the sunday morning as this is more convenient for the organisers. Meanwhile, please let me know if you're going, what you're bringing and where you're camping and I'll do my best to come and say hello. I'll be togged up in the usual event team red polo shirt and will be wearing either an HMVF cap or a battered looking brown titfer. It would be nice to snap as many HMVF motors as possible. If you're doing any arena events let me know and I'll attempt to be on tap. cheers, Mark
  12. Nice to see a few friendly faces at the controls of the DX armour. Good bunch of people.
  13. I was having total mental block remembering Michael Crawford yesterday. It was the Jokers and it was Oliver Reed. As for the scene not being London, I presume it isn't Milton Abbas either. MB
  14. I think you are getting into the realms of science fantasy expecting a big ship, a crane and decent weather off Ireland. Great pictures, though. Salvaging rights might be an issue. Who do they belong to? The ship may well be a designated war grave anyway. I'll have to look it up on the MN memorial next time I pass by. MB
  15. They've got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil They've got a lot of awful coffee in Wapping :coffee:
  16. Any chance of you coves repeating this in english for the rest of us?
  17. Nice to have you here Graham. Looking forward to seeing your motors. Let us know what events you'll be at this year. We have a big gathering at Beltring planned. MB
  18. I'd be more worried about people nicking it for scrap. Aldgate roundabout will be a challenge, though! MB
  19. still trying to suss the shot of the champ and motorcycle on the streets of London. What was that comedy with Oliver Reed and 'Frank Spencer' nicking the crown jewels?
