  1. Welcome to the mad house fellow restorers :nut: wealth of knowledge and help you will find in here
  2. Have decided to make a new mount for cab as its not very likely that I'll find another one so as I was at home today because an old power line was replaced by the MEB I got stuck in with the grinder and welder :cool2:. Also picked up new castleated nuts for them plus new ones for the spring U bolts from my local fastener supplier.
  3. John does this mean that my truck could have either as I have buttons to hold the flat canvas and fittings to take bow hoops ?
  4. Yep I second that though I'll not need my canvas for another 12 months or so :cool2:
  5. Nuther fun day on the chassis / back axle cleaning and at last its had a coat of anti corrosion chassis paint I know it should be black but I have lots of half cans left over from previous restorations so I,m using them up as undercoats etc as top coat is a tad expensive.
  6. I had this problem with my Champ that had been stood 30 odd years and in the end after bending a starting handle I took the head off poured a drop of diesel down the bores left it a week then put a socket with a breaker bar on the crank nut and it turned over no probs, I took the head off to check the bores were ok and it gave me the chance to lap the valves in to make sure all was ok when the engine was started. Good luck RR.
  7. Aaaaaaah more inspiration for us to keep going with our restorations, great looking MW :-D you must be very happy with it.
  8. WANTED  Have removed the cab mounts today and I need one of these please - Probably very rare as I think these are early type mounts but I would like to try and keep things original so if anyone has a spare the rivet would be very grateful maybe there's one lurking under the bench or forgotten in a box :cool2: Have also replaced the bushes in the shock absorber arms and linkages.
  9. What about shrapnel damage from when the Luton factory was bombed 30 Aug 1940 ? trouble is my MW was built in 39 DOH ! What about damage caused when in France 1940 or landing on the D Day beaches ? you see I have a jeep and it .......................................:nut:
  10. Could be, there is damage to both sides of the bolt hole, though the original bolts and brackets came undone no probs.
  11. The pesky wing nuts are being cast as I sit here supping some stowford press :nut: I started cleaning rear half of chassis today what a job ! Found this jagged hole in chassis so have posted a question elsewhere on the site, have removed rear springs all ok none broken :-D also removed handbrake gubbins as I need to replace prop shaft seal.
  12. Have started cleaning the chassis on the Bedford today and notice this odd hole anyone care to hazard a guess on how it got there ? The circular hole is for a step bracket its the jagged one that caught my eye. this is looking at the outside vertical face of the chassis about at the bell housing hole is approx. 1/2" across. looking at the inside of the c section near gearbox cross member.
  13. That's really coming together and looking good I'll have to call by soon to take dims of everything I need to get my cab floor moving :cool2: wing nut patterns are on their way t'foundry :-D you'll probably need them sooner than I  RR.
  14. At last the casting patterns for the wing nuts are sorted blank ears Touch of filler and paint and hey presto !! I had a feeling these little toads would be fiddly and a lot of work and they were. Hope they pass quality control ? if ok will post them off to the foundry I have left them long to help in the machining if that's of any help ? I'm off to have a lie down in a dark room
  15. Have managed to borrow a wood turning lathe from my mate smudger and have started turning the bodies of the wing nuts, that's the easy bit next the fun bit of making the ears.
  16. Had a nice booklet given to me from my Father see pics Nice item about 60 odd pages and though maybe it dates from the B.E.F. era rather than D Day + any ideas folks ?
  17. Brake master cylinder has just come back from being re sleeved with stainless, rebuilt and tested :-D
  18. Had a few hours spare sat so started sorting rear brakes Will sort rear springs soon, I need to reduce their number somewhat, have started by loosening the U bolts which took yonks but was made easier by removing the back plate.
  19. Thanks for the spring offer have sent pics of wingnut to the foundry man and theres no probs in him casting them so I,ll make up six patterns and get that in motion I thought we'd get 30 No. cast what'd reckon ?
  20. Looks like I could use some of those leafs I took the nearside set apart today to clean up and one of those has started to go :-(
  21. If you take the top leaf with the bushes in as No. 1 then No. 2, 3 and 4 have snapped :undecided: see pic below Paint in photo looks similar to yours but it really does look like the dog turd brown that was used later in the war rather than the nice almost green on the bulkhead wil stick to the almost green me thinks
  22. Have removed second spring and at least it look better than the first. I also removed the steering box ready to refurbish it and underneath found this patch of original paint, it doesn't show very well in the photo but its brown opposed to the green that was underneath the voltage regulator I now have an option on paint schemes there is more traces of original brown paint on the steering box cover as well.
